Hammond Glen Retirement Community is a really nice place. It's kept up really well and clean. They have excellent food and quite a few events during the week so people will have something to do. They have bingo, movies, community meetings, and a game night where people get together and play different games in one room. The staff is very efficient and very good. It's a very clean place and the value is competitive, about in the middle.

The staff at Hammond Glen Retirement Community gave us a tour, but it was kind of lacking. They had just a handful of staff that were there all the time. They're not as organized as I would have liked. The thing I liked most was they had the shuttle to the Sandy Spring United Methodist Church and they have a few things. The facility was decent. There's plenty of parking and stuff right around there that you could walk to if you wanted to.

We will be moving into Hammond Glen Retirement Community. They were good. They're far away from where we live, but they rented a vehicle to come and pick us up and take us there. It's nice and clean and the people seemed to be happy there. I figured it was within our budget, so that's why we took that. We're starting in independent living, and I like the idea that they have assisted living in the same building if it comes to that. I have a bad back and I'm a caregiver for my husband because he's blind. I wanted a place where he would be safe if something happened to me. I met a lot of staff. Shanika is the main person. She's our concierge for the first 90 days when we're there. She's a very pleasant, nice young lady, and answered all our questions. The bookkeeper there who did all the signing, Ebony, was a nice lady. The rooms were a nice size, and the biggest thing I needed was a walk-in shower because it would be hard getting in and out of the bathtub. I'm afraid if ever my husband fell, he'd be in serious trouble. They had the glass doors surrounding it and he'd be safe. The independent living is on the third floor. The assisted living is down the lower second floor. The dining area is a good size. It's nice and clean and you're not sitting on top of the other. Each table has four chairs. We had grilled chicken salad and it was very good. We had soup and they gave us a lemonade, but we didn't drink that. There are a lot of activities there. They have a room where they have a treadmill and weights and different things like that. They had nice grounds, but I really didn't get to too much of the outside. They supposedly have a nice garden, and there is an area where they have koi fish and you can sit and relax out there. It really is nice, but I couldn't do everything because of my back. Every week, they give you a menu and you pick what you want. They offer choices. If you don't want the main meal that the chef is cooking, there's chicken salad and tuna salad. They give you soup and dessert. We get three meals a day that's included in our rent.

We were really impressed with Hammond Glen Retirement Community. I think it's going to be a good fit for my dad. It's a really nice facility. It's clean. It's got a lot of people there and a lot of stuff for him to do. He would have an apartment, and it's in his price range. It's in the area I was trying to put him in. It's a really great senior living place. They got a lot of activities for the seniors to do in and out. I just liked it. Everybody was really friendly from the time we got there to the time we left. They're very helpful. The apartment was nice, like what you would get in Midtown or Downtown Atlanta. Everything is upgraded and new, light and airy, and clean. They have the appliances, but you can bring your own furniture and your own stuff that you want to put on the walls and everything like that.

We visited Hammond Glen Retirement Community, and our experience was outstanding. The staff was very impressive and very professional. It was probably the nicest we've seen, it was fresh, clean, and delightful. The rooms were also very pleasant and very nice. The location is delightful and it's near where I want to be. Their dining room looks inviting.

We're going to live at Hammond Glen. It's very friendly and warm. The staff members were lovely. The food was good, and we enjoyed it. They had movies and special dinners. They always seemed to have games going, like mahjong and bridge. When we first got there, we participated in a seated exercise class. They had a library and a coffee shop, too. They also had a bus that takes you to a senior center that has everything.

Hammond Glen was fantastic and complete. It had a beauty salon, a movie theater, fitness center, a performance area, and cafe. They provided meals and had regular transportation to local areas. It was quite lovely. The apartments were spacious and recently renovated.

We chose Hammond Glen for my mom because it was very nice and within the price range I was looking for. I think it is a good value for that price compared to the other places that I looked at. They have lots of activities, a movie theater, and a full schedule of activities. They take her to her doctors’ appointments within this area for free. I don't have complaints. It seems like it would be a good place for her. She is a movie buff, and they have movies twice a day and then once on the weekends, and trips to the movies. When you sign up or when you move in, one meal is included in your rent, and you can make it breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but you can choose to have more; we chose to put her on the three meals a day plan. The staff is really friendly, very willing to help, and very welcoming.

The food was excellent at Hammond Glen; they brought me dessert while I was talking to the coordinator there. It had a more upscale and formal living situation on a larger scale with a lot more residents. It was very nice, very well appointed, friendly, and active.

Hammond Glen was very nice. I only met the person who had shown us around, and he was very nice and thorough. I will go back for supper this week. And what I also liked about it is you have to pay your own electric bill -- it's more reasonable -- and they have a laundry.

The main problem with Hammond Glen is that it is old and showing its age. It was nice. The room size was nice. The people were nice. It was just rundown-looking. The lady that gave me a tour was very nice. I met a couple of others, and it seemed like it would be a nice place and near a shopping center. It’s in walking distance to quite a few things and in an area I’m familiar with because we used to live over there.

I visited Hammond Glen and it was great but most of the people there were in their 80s, and I'm in my 60s, so the gentleman there said I probably wouldn't enjoy that. The population has been there for a long time, and the 20-year difference wouldn't be good. The people working there were very friendly. We saw a room, and it was very nice. They had a movie theater there, a lot of activities geared to the age group, computers, a barbershop, hairdresser, and even a jukebox. I live near where the building is located, and I like the staff. They should have a more diverse population.

I visited Hammond Glen, which I found very impressive in a number of ways. I particularly liked the location since it's in Sandy Springs where I live. Everybody was very friendly. The assistant manager gave me a quick tour of the place, and I liked a lot of the amenities that were available there, but they seemed to be fairly typical of other facilities that I have visited. They're very competitive, actually, because they provide the same kind of facilities and want to satisfy their clients.

I liked Hammond Glen very much. The management was terrific. The facilities were fine. I enjoyed it. The rooms were small, but other than that it was very nice. I ate there, I talked to a lot of the residents, I saw the apartments, and everything was fine.

Hammond Glen is an excellent place. The staff know all of the residents by name. They treated them very kindly and very respectfully. They have very diverse programs for seniors; I went to several of them in one day including on in the Japanese blossom garden where they had Japanese dancers. I also went to a Danish breakfast get-together. A therapist came in the afternoon and gave a lecture on osteoporosis. I had breakfast that morning with the residents, and the food was excellent. The chef came out to meet us. I had the California-style suite with two private rooms on either side of the living room. One of the rooms had an end suite and the other bathroom was accessible to company. The dining and living room were at the center and the kitchen was off to one side. There was lots of storage space. It was beautiful and very well furnished. They have a library, a theater, common area, a stage and a nice dining room.

We visited Hammond Glen, and actually we were quite impressed with it. We were very impressed with how engaged the residents were. Obviously, people there were very satisfied with the community itself, and to me, that was very telling. You can visit a place, and the staff can be wonderful, but I think you get a much better thought of how it would be living in a place from the residents. It was very clean and bright. They have an entire calendar of events for the things that they do and some things that they encourage family members to participate in as well. The layout of the apartments was very well thought out. The dining room was beautiful, and we got to meet one of the chefs. We were just impressed with how inviting it was. When we left, they were so inviting. They were having a Halloween party for kids coming up on the following weekend and even though we weren't moving in, they still made a point of inviting my granddaughter, who was with us at the time for the visit, to come back down, and actually sent us an email following up on it. These are the types of people who are running this place, and that's honestly the type of community that I'm looking for for my mom.
Provider Response
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our Hammond Glen property in Sandy Springs, Georgia. We are very proud of our staff and know that a building is just a building but what makes a home a great place to live in is the care and love put into each and every day by the staff to make our residents feel appreciated, secure, adventurous, excited, hopeful, and loved each day. We continue to work toward that goal. Thanks again. Karen Cochran, Regional Director of Operations, Sunshine Retirement Living.

Hammond Glen was nice as well as the common areas were nice. We had lunch there and the food was very good. The dining room was pleasant but the apartment was very small and I had a feeling of “institution” and it turned me off. They did say that they are under new management and that they are going to be making some changes. The staff that I met was very nice. The main impression when you walk in was not favorable. It’s like a nursing home. It wasn’t open and bright and was kind of dark.

The place was nice and clean, and the people were friendly. The only thing that I found difficult for me was that Hammond Glen was originally developed as an apartment house -- not a senior living community -- so all they had were apartments and parking lots. They have some grounds, but they haven't developed them into a park yet. I found that very difficult for myself because the only hobby I have is to walk, but the location is perfect. It is very close to the hospital and another senior center in the City of Sandy Springs, to which they provide transportation. They also have a limited number of assisted living openings, so it would have been a good place except for the fact that they have no grounds. The staff who took us around was very informative and very friendly.

Hammond Glen was our next choice. A senior service website helped me find this place. The staff was very helpful. They showed me around and told me everything. I was able to get an idea how my mom would live there. The apartments that they did have include kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and bedrooms, which were fine, but my mom didn't really want to have to cook. Also, with their rent, they only include one meal a day. You have to pay extra if you want three meals. Their price was a little cheaper but it didn't include as much stuff. You have to pay extra for electricity, wireless internet, phone, etc. Overall, Hammond Glen is good for what they offer but it is not what I was looking for for my mother.

I went for a visit to Hammond Glen. I had a friend who taught art classes there and she spoke highly about the place. It was clean and neat. The staff seemed competent. The apartments were well-kept. The hallways were long and that was difficult for me because I could only walk for short distances. The facility was a little pricey for me.

Hammond Glen is a unique assisted living facility. They provide quality care for seniors and the developmentally disabled of all ages. They provide quality eating facilities for my grandmother and she also has the option of eating in a dining room setting. They have 24 hour medical care and emergency care. My grandmother was relunctant to live on her own, but the facility has made it a lot easier. It was hard for me to see my grandmother in a assisted living facility. However, Hammond Glen made the transition very easy.I highly recommend Hammond Glenn. They are a clean facility with quality staff. They care about your loved ones. The also welcome the comments and suggestions from the residents, visitors, and relatives to make the facility more suitable for our love ones.Hammond Glenn is highly recommended by me and my family if you are looking for quality assisted living.
