I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Uncle was in Westbury for rehabilitation from back surgery. As I visited daily, I took note of the nursing staff/aides and how they interacted with him as well as the care provided to him. The outside and for the most part it appears to be a clean and decent environment. However, training and compassion is lacking in all areas. Most of the nurses and especially the aides were rude and had attitudes that you bothered them while they sat on their cell phones. Accidents are not documented (and required to be), family is not called when an accident occurs. If you have to use a bed pan it takes sometimes an hour for someone to get to you and then if you soil yourself, it is another hour to be cleaned up. For the most part, the staff could take lessons in compassion, promptness, communication, caring, empathy, flexibility and so much more. I would definitely do my research before placing any of your loved ones in this facility. It was a blessing that my uncle only had to stay 21 days. Unfortunately, others are not so lucky.

My mom is a resident of Westbury Medical Care Home. The facilities are awesome. They're very attentive to my mother's needs and they're sociable. They have common areas like physical therapy areas, weight rooms, and game rooms, and it's semi-private. The food is good.

My mom is now at Westbury Medical Care Home. She has only been there for a couple of days, but they seem to be very good and organized. The rooms seem to be fine. She's in a semi-private room. They seem to be big enough and roomy enough. The workers seem to be very friendly and very attentive. They have daily activities. They have a dining room and nice outside facility.

On many occasions visiting this facility, staff is not using hand sanitizer, visitors and residents without mask or face shields. You can tell the quality of care has plummeted. When it was owned and operated by the Westbury is was such a pleasant place for your loved one. Nursing staff are rude and unapproachable. The health department should be called if residents are getting COVID without leaving the building.

They put all these restrictions on family members visiting loved ones to the point of saying’no visitations’ and yet my grandmother, who is fully vaccinated, has gotten Covid Twice from living here. Explain to me how you can quarantine my grandmother, who is/was in a room by herself and then my grandmother has Covid when she hasn’t even left her room or the facility?!?! 😡

WARNING: DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONES IN THIS FACILITY! WESTBURY CENTER OF JACKSON NURSING HOME IS A HORRIBLE PLACE My mother has severe COPD and emphysema and was initially moved from her home to hospice care. Once she started to recover I had to have her moved from hospice care to a nursing home to continue her recovery. This facility was one of the ones recommended by her hospice care facility. Let’s be clear here, until you are put into a situation having to make decisions for a loved based on their long term care, you have no idea what these places can be like. Reviews are all over the place for these types of facilities and unless you have an extraordinary amount of money for a top notch facility and the ability to travel all over the place to look at them you are stuck with what you can afford and have limited time to look at. When I first walked into the facility I was confronted by two old shrews who act like they are gatekeepers to a top secret facility. They were not very pleasant to deal with. This should have been my first clue. Then as I was escorted to the admissions office you pass by patients who are just left to roam around on their own and left in wheelchairs in the hallways. Once again if you have never been into one of these facilities it can be a real eye opener as to the state of health care in this country. And now for the meat of my complaint on my mother’s care. After the first night she was there I called her to tell her I would be arriving the next day (I live out of state from her) to sign paperwork and pay for her first moths stay. She was in quarantine for a week and would then be moved to a semiprivate room. The social worker at the facility said as my mother seemed to be a social person she had a nice lady for her to room with. I called my mother the day after she was moved and she was very upset. I could hear moaning in the background and she said that the other lady in the room had been doing this all day and all night. She hadn’t gotten any sleep. I told her I would call the social worker and when I did she said that she knew about it and was moving my mother to a new room. She said that she should have not been put into that room to begin with. Another red flag. And now the worst part of this story. After she was moved again I visited her and met her new roommate and she seemed very nice and my mother seemed better. Less than a week later my mother called me to tell me that at about 1:00am her roommate complained about stomach pain and shortness of breath. Her nurse asked if she had had a bowel movement and when the lady said she couldn’t breathe the nurse said that she was talking so she could breathe fine. The nurse left and about an hour later the woman passed away by herself. When the nurse and another med tech came back and found her the nurse commented “well that was fast”. My mother, with only a plastic curtain separating the beds heard all of this. They then left the woman in the bed and in the room with my mother the rest of the night until she was removed the next morning. Needless to say after finding this out I started looking for another facility to move her to. I have worked in FIRE/EMS for 35 years and know that there are patient protocols for everything. The nighttime supervisor and nurse should have been immediately fired for gross negligence, but that didn’t happen. They did a patient survey and that was it. The only positive thing I can say is that my mother did like some her nurses but this facility is still woefully under staffed. All I can say is if you care for whatever family member you are responsible for, avoid this place like your loved ones life depended on it. Because it does.

This facility is mediocre at best. Their administrative staff doesn't have a clue about what goes on there. And....what nursing home is closed for visitors on Sunday?? They obviously do not care about the patients who have family and friends that work Mon - Friday. Working to remove my friend from this awful place. All this for $6K/month!

I visited this facility

Westbury was too crowded. I felt like my mother would get lost there. I just did not want to put my mother there. The staff was really nice though. However, they didn't really present anything to me, and we just walked around the facility. They took me to the main building and into another building. It was an older building and it needed updating.

Medical Care Home was excellent. It was just a little too far, and this was the main reason why we wanted to move my father. He got excellent service, and they were all very nice the whole time he was there. It was way above average. It was always extremely clean, and they were remodeling everything all the time; everything was nice. Sometimes, the food wasn’t so good, and that was the only thing dad complained about, but it’s really just a matter of taste. We were very pleased. They were just very nice people with lots of activities, lots of decorations, and things for the people to do.
