Lanier Village Estates' has a strong track record and, they're very appealing, friendly people, as all the others are. They've been in the business for many years and have locations in about 17 other cities. The food is outstanding. They don't serve breakfast, they have luncheon at a bistro-style, a dining area that everybody goes to with a large buffet line, or you can get individual meals cooked if you want to order. We have friends there that host dinner there. The value is comparable to the other places.

The concept of Lanier Village Estates is a good one. The independent living apartments are big and well laid out. The facilities are impressive. But the maintenance of the building and grounds has deteriorated in the last few years. It appears the home office in Pennsylvania does not want to spend the money on making things right, but rather on patching things and increasing the size of their bureaucracy. Since the place is over 20 years old, some maintenance is needed. The quality of food at marketing events is very high. The quality of food after you move in is highly questionable -- too salty, not enough healthy vegetables, too many starches, etc. The assisted living apartments size and style are about what you would expect in assisted living. However, it appears that the only advantage of moving into assisted living is that you get 3 meals per day, social activities, and the administration of your medicine. You have to perform most of the activities of daily living yourself. Skilled nursing care consists of very small rooms, with shared bathrooms. In sum, Lanier Village Estates has great potential, but it has been a disappointment.

I have a former colleague (my boss), he and his wife and their dog live at Lanier Village Estates, and they've lived there for five years now, and they are quite happy. So that was a good reference for me. I visited the place. We had a nice lunch. I had plenty of ice cream, which is important. They have cottages, unfortunately, they have nothing available. We did sign up to be on their priority list at whatever time something becomes available to be considered. Since we have a dog, we would prefer a cottage. They had a two-bedroom model that we would also find would be adequate for us, but it is just not available either. So we did put our name on their priority list, and that's the status. The fact that we put our name on the list, would speak that we were favorably impressed. The staff were very helpful. We had our lunch there and it was very cold. The only issue was my broccoli was cold. We were very impressed with the upkeep and cleanliness of it. Not only was the place very nice, but it is also close to the Northeast Georgia Medical Facility, which is very, very highly regarded. And as a matter of fact, we have used their facilities for accidents that we have had, so access to high-level medical care was important like hospital and all those things.

Lanier Village Estates is a comfortable place. There is a good variety of activities, a good combination of male and female residents, a caring staff, and beautiful exterior surroundings, as we are at the mountains of North Georgia. There's opportunities for volunteering, which we liked, and they were very careful during COVID. The place is immaculate all the time. Our apartment is big. It's got two bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry room, two bathrooms, a den, a living room, a dining room, and a screened-in porch. When you move here, you get to pick out your cabinets, your wallpaper, carpeting/flooring, and your fixtures. We have three restaurants. There's casual dining in a bistro. There is formal dining in a mountain view and an upscale one. You can have somebody clean your apartment every two weeks. This includes cleaning the kitchen sink, the counters, bathrooms, toilets, shower, vacuuming the carpets, and mopping the floor. Once a year, we get an annual deep cleaning where they clean the blinds, ceiling fans, wall moldings, and cabinet front. If anything goes wrong, you just call the maintenance and they come and fix it. You don't have to fix anything. We have two salons for both men and women, a woodworking shop, a chapel, a puzzle room, an atrium where they have aerobics and all kinds of workouts, a swimming pool that's enclosed where you can do pool aerobics, and a workout room that has all kinds of equipment (from stationary bikes to rowing machines). There is an auditorium where they show movies, have concerts, put on plays, have memorial services, and more. We also have walking trails outside to the lake, an outside tennis court, and a putt-putt golf. If you want to have a garden, we have multiple plots here. My husband and I have a little plot that we do some small gardening in. Overall, it's a nice community.

Lanier Village Estates was a very great place. You have nice apartments, you buy them though, instead of just paying dues and living in them. You have to get your meals instead of a sit-down meal. They have food bars and you have to go around and select what you want and I don't think I'd like that. I prefer just to go and have a meal served to me. The staff was wonderful. They had good people there. We had lunch there several times and it was excellent. They had their own chef. My husband and I went both and we liked the food. That's our favorite place, but you have to buy your unit. If you get just a one-bedroom and a den, it was pretty affordable. It's a beautiful place, and my son likes it. You can have a nice little apartment, but you can get whatever size you want, a one-bedroom and a den or one-bedroom or two-bedrooms, but of different prices, of course, and then you still have your dues. You have a view out your back of the hills, but when you open your front door, all you see is a long hall with more doors. It has retirement, assisted living, nursing home, and memory care. It has everything. If you got worse, you wouldn't have to move. It has a large ground area. The apartments were great and you could bring your own stuff to furnish. You got your own kitchen and your own laundry room.

We had an in-person tour at Lanier Village Estates. It is a very nice facility. Everything is first class there: classy people, first-class dining, and first-class accommodations. It is very nice. We will go into independent living for starters. The staff members are very confident, very good. It is an apartment, not furnished, but very nice though. They have hardwood floors in most of them; really nice touches. We were able to have one meal, the food was very good, and it was a good meal. The people are very friendly and open. It is kind of laid-back living. There is a group that does exercises regularly in the exercise room downstairs, there are big swimming pools, and there is a space for special events. It is very nice.

Lanier Village Estates is very expensive for what we want -- that's the downside -- but it has everything we want. We've been there many times, and it's wonderful. The downside is that you pay an entrance fee, and you don't get it back after four years. We were looking at their houses there. The staff is great. They're caring and knowledgeable, and the ratio is good. We met a housekeeper when we were in memory care, and she even had training on how to deal with people with Alzheimer's. She handled the resident well and redirected that resident. The caveat is I would not like to be in their apartment because the hallways are narrow and I'm claustrophobic; they also wind all around, which kind of bothered me. But their apartments were really nice. They have a pool, arts and crafts, a theater room, and everything you could want. Primarily, you have to be able to be independent to move in there. Then if you need more care, you can gradually move through the continuum of care. And that's what we like.

We went to Lanier Village Estates. We've known about this place because we used to live in Gainesville. It's a beautiful palace. It's wonderful, and it's expensive. It's clean. It's a big place, and it's got beautiful views of the mountains. The property around it is really nice. It's probably one of the nicer ones I've ever seen. It has a lot to offer, and I know that they are managed very well. My friend's mother lived there, and she had checked into it beforehand. Financially they were managed very well. There are a number of people that lived there that we know. They have a swimming pool. They have libraries. They have crafts areas. They have several different restaurants. The outside areas have walking paths, and you can see the mountains from a lot of the rooms. They have a lot of different things. There are shuttles that take you to places, and they do have a lot of activities planned.

NOT pet friendly. Dog park is at the bottom of a cliff and not accessible to walkers or wheel chairs. It is over a mile round trip from their room. No heart healthy menu here. I stayed on site with family and in 10 lunches or dinners only one offered a second vegetable. 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day as advised by the American Hearst Association is impossible here. Their standard menu is two entree choices, one starch, One vegetable and all the fries, onion rings or sandwich’s you might want. Bad for vegetarians .

As a long-time resident of Lanier Villages I would recommend it. However, the parent company, ACTS, has recently added a unprecedented amount of middle layer management so fees have increased and food quality and services has suffered and there is a high turnover in support staff as resources allocated for front-line services have been cut. Yet, in August of 2017, a new Director was appointed who is personable and an excellent leader who we hope can advocate with the Pennsylvania based headquarters. Lanier Villages is more expensive than some but the facilities, camaraderie among residents, and fellowship of friends make it a good place to live.

Lanier Village Estates was outstanding. They had homes, cottages, and apartments, and you can progress from independent living to assisted living to dementia care. The staff was excellent and very helpful in every way. The apartments were very large, spacious, and remodeled before you will be staying in it. They have a workout room, planned activities, and transportation for the residents. The food was very good. My experience meeting with the director was very good. She took us around, and they had golf carts available to take you around.

My second choice would be Lanier Village. It’s gorgeous over there, and the facility is wonderful. The people were warm and welcoming, too. I know that they have a lot of resources right there, but the price is what put it out of the running for first. It is definitely my second choice if the other place doesn't work out because they have everything. They go from independent living to total care and everything in between. They have a lot of outdoor and indoor activities all of the time, and they’ll take buses for special trips.

Lanier Village was quite nice. We went to see a friend who lives there, but we didn’t have a tour by the people that run it. The environment is very nice, but our major objection was that you had to park your car on the street. They had a very nice garden outside. My friend was very happy and satisfied. It’s a couple, and they are just very pleased with living there. However it just didn’t suit us.

The quality of the staff, facility and the whole thing at Lanier Village Estates were extremely done. But I felt it was a little on the pricey side.

We visited Lanier Village Estates and it was a lovely place. The rooms we saw were very bright, very nice and very comfortable. They were small, but that's okay. They have a lot of activities there. They also had a library and a pool. The luncheon was very nice and the people were gracious. However, it was a bit pricey for us.

As The Host of The Eddie Esq. Show for Savvy Seniors www.eddieesq.com WCFO AM Atlanta (1160) and WNJC AM Philadelphia (1360), I was the guest of the management at this ACTS Retirement Community. I visit such communities; this facility is right at the top for "first class" . The management is professional and knowledgeable. I talked with some of the residents and everyone seemed extremely pleased. I can highly recommend them to any of your readers. The parent company headquartered in West Point, PA, has similar communities in PA, DE, Maryland, VA, NC, SC and South Florida as well as Lanier Village at Gainesville, GA.

It is a nice place, they have upscale facilities and the staff is very friendly and attentive. They always welcome visitors with open arms. The food is excellent and the staff really seems to care about the welfare of the residents. There is an activity coordinator who keeps the residents active as much as possible and there are many scheduled activities outside of the facility.

Beautiful, classy facility in north Gainesville. I know many people who live in this assisted living facility and they love it!
