The community of Oaks at Ellijay is excellent. The staff is good. My mother had a hard time adjusting, but that's normal and she's doing much better now, and I think she's much happier. She's starting to get involved in more activities. They have a lot for them to do and she's eating better. So overall, it's been a good experience. Her room is fine. She's got her own bathroom. The room's not big, but it's got everything she needs in it. At first, she was upstairs, away from everybody and I think that she felt isolated. When a room came open, they moved her and so she's two doors down now from the dining room, and she's much happier. There's more interaction. That room was pretty much the same as the other one. They also had options of getting a one-bedroom with a sitting suite, but she didn't need that. They print out the menu for the entire week: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I'm very impressed with the menu. Overall, the food looks fine. The dining experience is good. She's sitting with people she likes now. So, she's being a lot more social. Overall, I'm impressed with the fact that they can put that many meals out and have the variety that they have and it looks good. I haven't eaten any of the meals. I had a bowl of soup one day and it was very good, but from what I've seen and from talking to other residents (some of them have been there for 4 to 7 years), everyone seems very happy with the place. The fact that the residents have been there that long and that they're happy, that alone says something about the Oaks at Ellijay as well. They're very attentive. I don't have an issue with any of the staff. The place is kept very clean. There's no nursing home smell to it. There's none of that. They have a movie night, exercises every day, and devotionals. So, they do a lot and you can choose to participate or not. Their cost is pretty much on par with other places, but, for what they do, I'm very happy with what we're paying.

I was at Oaks at Ellijay for respite care. It was a very good experience. It was a very nice place and the staff tended to my every need. I had a nice room. It was big and had a view of the outdoors. The food was outstanding. If I wanted something special, they would fix it for me. They had church services, bingo, they brought in a dog for therapy that everyone petted, showed movies, and all kinds of stuff going on.

My second choice would have been the Oaks at Ellijay. The woman there (her name was Mona Jane) was very helpful, very cooperative, very professional, answered a lot of our questions, and took us for a really good tour. I can't say anything bad about that place. In other words, if we couldn't get my mom in this other facility, I would have happily settled for Oaks at Ellijay. The rooms are comfortable looking. They have an area where you can do some working out like for physical rehab. They have activities. They have arts and crafts, games, and movies. They have a little theater section set up in there with a big screen on the wall and chairs; it was very nice. They have a library with books and everything.

Oaks at Ellijay was very clean. The staff was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and willing to help us in any way that they could. They had a hair salon and a movie theater. It was freshly remodeled, so it was nice. It's off to itself. There seems to be a lot of privacy around it.

It was where my brother was. The staff was very nice, and they had a lot of things for people to do. His room was very small. One woman in particular did a fantastic job of managing to get all kinds of things in her room and get it all organized. I know the women were always busy doing crafts, playing card games, and watching movies once a week. They had different parties for different occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. The people could go out if they had transportation and there were plenty of churches around. They’re near the Courthouse Square where a lot of the shops are located.

It is good, and the reason my mother chose the place was it is on the edge of the city; it is actually looking out Georgian map, and it’s very nice. She has been there for about two months and she likes the staff. They are very cordial and nice. She hasn’t had any problems with any of them. The only thing drawback is she wanted a 2 room suite, and she was first on the waiting list, but until now she hasn’t got one but the room she is in is clean and one of the largest. It is actually as large as a two suite would be and she is please with that. The food is OK. They need to have changes in their kitchen staff as one day the food will be absolutely perfect, and the next day it’s not.
