My grandmother moved into Chestnut Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center. The Medicare specialist here has been incredible. She is so kind. She went through every step of the application with me. She was on the phone with me for probably 30 minutes, helping me fill it all out, and she was just incredibly patient and sweet. The admission's director was just nonresponsive. I would leave a voicemail every day for a week and a half, and I still wouldn't hear back from her. It wasn't until I threatened to have someone go there that she finally called me back, which was frustrating for a human being out of town making meeting arrangements. My grandmother had so many COVID exposures. I think that's just the situation right now with all the nursing homes. There is a high turnover, and they don't have enough staff. She's finally out of isolation, and we're very lucky she's very healthy. They're struggling with how they're handling COVID, and they just don't have the room for everyone. My grandma likes the staff and loves her nurses. She says there are no activities right now due to Covid, but she thinks that'll change. Her room is so cramped. It's a room designed for two people, and they have three in there. She said there's barely any furniture because it's just a hospital bed next to a hospital bed. The staff members have been responsive. As soon as my grandma was diagnosed with COVID, they called me within five minutes. My grandma's phone broke while they were there, and we needed them to do all this stuff to reset it. They went above and beyond with all that. The facility is nice, really clean, and spacious. It looks older. I know they do have activities when it's not COVID. They have arts and crafts activities, bingo, different games, and movie night. We don't pay anything because we got Medicare-approved. They need to improve on the communications for admission.

I had a family member there on two different occasions. The first time, he was skipped twice at meal time. His room had roaches and they didn't change his bed. The a/c went out and it took 4 days and several phone calls before it was fixed (in the middle of August). 2nd time he was there, has 1 shower in 3 weeks. Had to call out to the nurses several times one night before he was taken care. On one visit, he was wearing someone else's clothes and it wasn't until a week later that we found out why this was. When he got there, he was able to eat solid foods. 3 weeks later, his food is all pureed and he quit eating and drinking. Didn't give him an iv once this happened. They didn't bother to keep us informed as to how he was progressing and the first 14 days, he was in quarantine, so we had no clue what was going on. He had lost a lot of weight in 3 weeks and is now in the hospital. We were going to have to extend his time there after insurance paid and they kept giving us different answers as to how much it was going to cost out of pocket. We were told it was one price which included room, board and incontinence supplies. We asked about incidental charges and was told there was none. And then we were told there would be more charges for supplies. Don't go here is you can help it.

NEGLECT! Do not let anyone talk you into this place. Do your homework, read the reviews. I pulled up and thought this place looks horrible, but I thought maybe it's really good inside and overlooked that. Well....No meds given, came home in urine, never gave my mom her clothes, never brushed teeth, walker dependent but wouldn't find her a walker, the nurses party at night and will tell your loved one "hold on" if they ask for help. When the nurses start shift at 7:00, they "might" get to their patient by 11:00. Food was so horrible, she ate snacks three meals in a row. If you love someone, do not choose this place.

Overall it was a good place to recover from a broken hip. But on many occasions I was lied to about so many different things. I was dismissed after five weeks and still in bad shape. The place is clean and the food is very good.

TERRIBLE. If you care at all about your loved one, do not send them here. My beloved grandma spent one night here after her hip surgery and she wet herself and laid in her urine all night long because she couldn’t get up. She pressed the call button over and over and even called out and NO ONE came to help her. She even heard other patients calling out for help. She also said she heard loud music all night, so I am assuming the people working there were to busy mingling and listening to music to care about the well being of their patients. Please do not send your loved one here. The workers do not care about the patients and there is no telling what else goes on behind closed doors.

My parents are doing good so far in Chestnut Ridge Nsg & Rehab Ctr; there are no problems. The staff is very attentive and answers all their needs. The only issue we've had is that sometimes it takes a while for them to take care of the residents' bathroom needs. My parents are very comfortable in their rooms, and before the lockdown everybody and everything was good. So far, my mother likes the food. She has had no issues with the food, and so far she likes it. The facilities are a little older, but they're trying to update it, and it's also very clean. For the money I think it's an excellent value. They have a great rehab facility there and it's one of the better rehabs in this part of the state.

My mother arrived here from a hospital just fine. The hospital got my mothers timeframe with all of her meds correct. Here they said they don’t go with what was written from the hospital, they have to do it on their own. One of my mother was feeding her until my mother starting the gagged (in my book that’s force feeding). My mother came into this place doing fine, 4 days later, got sick. The food here is awful and sometime isn’t cooked to the fullest. One patient asked for water and the nurse told her to wait. There are good nurses but also nurses that are here just for the paycheck. When you need a nurse, you have to press the call light, it can be on from 5 mins to 15 mins until someone comes. They only have one shower and the patients rotate during the week to get a shower. This place really needs to be checked by some type of health inspection and building inspection.

I enjoy this facility, my brother receives great care by wonderful people. They need more help with upgrades as the building is old, but the staff are friendly and communicate with me every time my brother needs something.

None of the nurses are on the same page. One will tell you your loved one a a can have something the other will say she cant, Then there is the one who has to ask someone. My Mother has a horrible kidney infection, and they were giving her sweet tea. Not even caffeine free. They do not care about the patients. They chat, gossip, and giggle more than helping the elderly. If you have a loved on there. remove them ASAP!!

This place is awful. My grandfather stayed there for 20 days total and while there sat in his own feces for 6+ hours multiple times. Because of their EXTREME LACK of care, he now has a kidney infection, and an infection in his rear. He almost went into sepsis because of this place. We had to call for an ambulance twice because he was not cared for properly. The last visit to the ER was caused by a fever of 104 because of his infections caused by the subpar staff. A lactate of 4 is considered sepsis and my grandpas was 3.67. BECAUSE OF THEM. The doctor there put him on an arenal diet when it was not needed and was supposed to be on a diabetic diet. This place is where our prisoners should go. Unless you want your loved one to suffer, don't take them to this rotten facility that reeks of urine.

My husband is in Chestnut Ridge. One of the things I like about them is they let me bring my dog. I think that's a really positive thing. Although they need more communal rooms where the patients can get out in wheelchairs, because they just sit in the lobby and on the front porch so they really need more room. The majority of the staff is very helpful.
