I visited Pine Knoll Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. I saw their long-term care and the physical therapy part which they have separated. The first hallway is for people that don't need so much assistance and the second hallway is for ones that are pretty much bed-ridden. It was all in one building though. It's a nursing home but it looked like the patients were getting cared for. The staff was helpful. I saw one staff person go into a room and ask a lady if she wanted to go to the church service. She got her out of bed, put her in a wheelchair, and rolled her down there. It was very helpful and accommodating. The appearance of the place was fine. It's just that it's a nursing home so you get a lot of people just laying in bed or sitting in wheelchairs in the hallway and it's just depressing, but there's nothing you can do about it. It is what it is.

My husband was there from Friday night to Monday morning and had to go back to the hospital. My daughter went after church on Sunday. His thermostat was on 79 and he was covered up with several blankets. He was soaked with sweat through his clothes and the sheet. I got there soon after her and we changed him and put pads under him to keep him dry. He was at risk for aspiration and was on constant feeding. He was almost flat in the bed when my daughter arrived. He was supposed to be no lower than 30 degrees at a minimum. Monday morning they called and said he was unresponsive and going back to the hospital. He had pneumonia due to aspiration. I gave them a two because the people were very friendly. This might have been a one time mistake but they are responsible for peoples lives and this is not acceptable.

When I visited Pine Knoll for my mother-in-law, it was horrible. The place smelled and it was noisy. I didn't have any contact with the staff because they seemed to be very busy. They really need to get rid of the smell.
