We toured the Talmage Terrace. It seems to be a very active community. The price is more in my level for renting. It's associated with the United Methodist Church, which I am Methodist, so that kind of caught my eye. It has everything that I need or want at this time in my life. I found the staff very friendly and informative. The young lady that sits on the desk coming in, she's got a big smile, and she's just really friendly, so that's nice to see. I've talked to a couple I know, and they said the food is great and they haven't had any problems with it. They've been there a couple of years now. The rooms are all fine. They are small apartments. I don't know the exact square footage, maybe 520 square feet, maybe one bedroom living room, dining room combined, a small kitchen and bath area, so it's adequate. It looked very clean. They've got other things going on. They have little gardens and flowers and vegetables, and people just seem to be very active.

Mom is in a particular place at Talmage Terrace called Personal Care and it is specifically appropriate for her condition. It's kind of a cross between assisted living, which is much more independent, and nursing home care, which is not independent. The personal care floor has more focused assistance for her ongoing activities. She has a single room with a bathroom. It's big enough. It's a larger size room, so she can fit some of her own furniture. It's probably smaller than what we would call a studio apartment. There's not a separate bedroom/living room thing, like a large hotel room but it works for her. She's wheelchair-bound, so she's got enough room to maneuver around. The staff has been very good. They're very kind, caring, and professional. They serve three meals a day. I just had lunch there today. I had seafood salad and soup and the seafood salad was very good. It's an older facility, but it's well-cared for, well-maintained, and clean. They've got a daily schedule of activities. They have at least five or six things going on pretty much every day.

The people in Talmage Terrace looked happy and there were lots of things to do. There was a room for exercise and a computer room. The dining room was very spacious and well-lit with fabric tablecloths and napkins. They had a meeting room where people could play games like scrabble and just get gathered. I thought it was a friendly place. The apartments were bigger. The location was excellent. You can walk to the grocery store or the library, and it's close to hospitals. So, that would be very convenient if you don't drive anymore. I was pleased with it. Some people were walking around. There was also a hair salon and people watching TV while waiting for lunch. Everybody seemed cheerful. There was a courtyard that I thought needed some help, though. They could put some grass and maybe plants/flowers in. It was a huge building and it felt like a dormitory for seniors, but the good thing about it was it's in the middle of town.

I toured for my mother. It was very well-run, very efficient and I was happy with the rooms and things available. I saw an individual room for one person. It has a seating area with a bed in the same area and then a little kitchen and a bathroom. It's clean, spacious, and very well laid out. They have a dining hall, and they have places where they gather for activities. There are lots of activities for them to participate in if they want to. I met the resident coordinator and financial people and I think they were very good. They have assisted living and independent living, but I went for assisted living. They don't have a nursing facility per se. I was there just right at lunchtime, so I was able to see the people going to lunch. They showed me the room for some activities, too. Their list was very extensive as far as things they offered.

We visited Talmage Terrace for my mom. The tour was good, and the staff were very good. The facility was nice, and the rooms were spacious and very nice. I think they had an exercise room. We did not actually see it, but I think I read that they do have an exercise room. They don't have as much outdoor space as the other community had, as far as a garden and outdoor seating goes. They have some available, but they just did not have the outdoor advantages, I guess. The location is fine; it is in town and close to things. They offer bingo, games, crafts, and music programs. They also do day trips and whatnot.

Independent living is the main thing in Lanier Gardens, but it also involves a meal once a day. It's a good facility, except that they all have one-bedroom apartments on that side. On the Talmage side the entry fee is a quarter of a million dollars, plus about $3,500 a month, and we weren't up for that kind of pricing. Talmage is wonderful if you've got enough money, while Lanier has been here for years and it's great for one person, but the rooms are not big enough for more than one person because it's a 1-bedroom with a living area and a very small kitchenette. I drove the bus for them for a while too as a volunteer. They have bus trips, shopping trips, church activities, a library, and a little exercise room. They have a few things there and it's not nearly as expensive as Talmage, so Lanier is a lot better cost-wise. The lady that took care of us and gave us the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable.

We were devastated when my mom fell a year ago and became wheelchair dependent. Looking at many care facilities, it became clear to us to choose Talmage. It is a very high scale assisted living environment and my mom loves it. She looks so much healthier because their food is not only delicious but very balanced, high quality meals and treats.. Also, being around others has brought out her social side😊. Talmage has handled the pandemic like they have any obstacle, it seems, by providing the finest protection of our loved ones but ensuring them (and us) that we’ll all get through this together. We couldn’t have chosen better for our sweet mother.

Wendy Smith at Talmage Terrace has graciously worked with 2nd grade students at one of the local schools! The students have had the opportunity to share their stories with the residents, play games, create fun crafts together, and learn from the seniors! The students have had an amazing experience working with the seniors. This experience has given the students an opportunity to develop leadership skills in an authentic experience to serve their community! Thank you, Wendy and Talmage Terrace for your hospitality and support!

Lanier Gardens was a very large, nice facility, but we’ve come to realize that a smaller place is much better. It’s sort of noisy with so much activity and so many people that it could disturb my relative who has Alzheimer’s. The food looked very good. They had various forms of exercise, swimming, walks, excursions, and arts and crafts.

We visited Talmage Terrace. They have a garden where the residents can grow vegetables if they want to. It was a more vertical facility but my mom doesn't like riding the elevator. There were no ground level apartments available. The staff was excellent -- we were invited to dinner and the food is excellent. They are friendly and my mother could have been happy there.
