I went to Brookdale West Melbourne. They had no pool. I passed a bookcase and I said, "Is that your library?" And the woman said, "I think so." She was very pushy and I didn't like her in the way that she downtalked the other places. She apparently used to work at the second place we visited and she just put them down the whole time. That wasn't very professional. The amenities were not nearly as nice as the other place that we visited. There were only about 40-some people in the building, so there was not as much of a social life. Everything was downsized. They didn't have nearly as many things available for socializing. I did like it. It was cheaper, but it should have been cheaper because you didn't have as many things to do. The building seemed pretty old and it was so very dark.

Brookdale West Melbourne was very well designed. It's a newer building than the other one we toured. For emergency disaster management, all their windows are impact resistant. They were able to articulate a plan if they had to evacuate all the seniors, so that was acceptable to me. I met with Michael and Angela at that facility. They were both able to articulate the costs and what they were able to provide. Their dining room looked exceptional. I just did not get that team cohesiveness from that facility as I did from the other place. The rooms were nicely set up. Their amenities were nice. They had a nice screened-in area for the residents to sit and talk, but I didn't see anybody in there, unlike the other place where people were out and engaged with each other. I also got to meet with a medical provider who came in once a week for the residents. The staff members were all very friendly, very outgoing, and welcoming. The facility was just very well put together and very clean. There was no construction going on or anything. They had the laundry, outings, and activities for the residents. Their dining room was set up beautifully. They had several different places to sit and eat or sit and engage with people.

We went to see Brookdale West Melbourne and I thought it was very, very nice, very clean, and very organized. The interviewer was extremely well-educated and we had a lot of fun. The two apartments that she showed us were too small for me. We were there after lunchtime, but she did give us a menu, and it was very extensive. They also do diabetic meals, you just have to tell the chef, which is very nice. I met two of the staff and they were very, very nice. The maintenance of the place was beautiful. The garden was gorgeous. There were no weeds. The cushions outside for lounging were very clean. There was no dirt on them at all.

I saw some very interesting studio and single-room apartments at Brookdale West Melbourne. They were empty, so I could see what I would have to bring. I got a general idea of how people set up and how you live in it and so on. They had activities, meals, and parties. They had doctors and nurses on staff, not just caregivers. They visited the residents at night. They looked in on them to see if they were all right. They have a deck and a patio. It's very nice. The apartments had a refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave. They're very friendly. The girl that I saw was very thorough in explaining exactly what assisted living was because I needed that information. I got to talk to a couple of the people living there and visited one man. They're pet friendly. They have a one-time fee and if you're unable to walk your own pet, they'll walk it for you. I tried the party food, and they had the most delicious cake. I arrived too late for lunch and left before dinner, but people were still sitting around the dining room, finishing up their lunches. They seemed to appreciate the food and they weren't complaining. If I have to do this, I would try and scrape up the extra thousand dollars to go there. It's light, airy, and clean, and there were no real long corridors which made it easy for me. There were wide hallways so that people in scooters and wheelchairs can pass each other. They also have rails on the walls for those who walk and if you need a little support, you can grab a wall. I have been in a couple of rehabs, so I have seen what they are like, and this is far superior. The one thing I liked was that you have your own room at Brookdale. It's all private rooms.

Brookdale West Melbourne was a nice facility. I liked it, but my dad needed a little extra care like going to appointments to the VA, and it was something that he would have to do on his own there. It was the only discouraging part about that. The rooms looked all up-to-date. They had a library and social activities and gatherings. It's pretty well laid out, and it was easy access to everything. The coordinator was very informative as well.

Brookdale West Melbourne was okay. The staff was very nice, very accurate, and very accommodating. The dining area was clean and acceptable. They had activities listed. The room was okay. It was an old fashioned kind of assisted living. It wasn't updated, not in the 21st century kind of thing.

Touring the community I felt welcomed by staff and the Residents were enjoying entertainment in the living room but we saw other Residents doing other things through out the tour. Seemed like 'home' to them not staged or regimented. Staff knew Residents by name and were willing to speak to me about their home.

My mom went to Sterling House. That place was wonderful, five-star place. We visited her often. The food was good and there were plenty of things for them to do. They were all very friendly. They put up with so much with my mother. It was amazing. My mother was there for eight months. My sister and I can't say enough for that place. They really did a great job. They had games, cooking, sing-a-longs, etc., they had a lot of different things going on. The place was beautiful and it was expensive but it was worth every penny for my mom. She had her own place. She had a sitting area and a bed within the other area, it was very nice. Overall, we were satisfied with every part of it.

My mom and I visited Sterling House of West Melbourne II, and this would be the place we are heading for as soon as they have something available. There is a lot of stuff that I like about this facility. I like that size of the facility; it's intimate. The staff were very involved with the residents. The size of the room is just exactly adequate, and the price is the best one I've seen so far. The girl we talked to gave my mom their monthly calendar to look at because everything was on it. Every day it was full of activities. They have trips and they go to their doctor's appointments. They have a hair salon and just all kinds of things that I think that my mom wants. They have a TV room where multiple residents can sit. They have a lot stuff going on there. I was impressed with their activities. We were able to eat there, and the food was awesome. The chef came out of the kitchen and talked to her.

Sterling House of West Melbourne II is a very clean place. It was really nice and the rooms were a little bit large and I like that, but they had few residents and that I did not like. The dining room was small because it's just a small place. Maybe for another person that would be fine but for my mother-in-law likes a lot of people. The staff were all very professional and very nice. They also offer lots of nice activities for the residents.

The nursing is very good at Sterling House. She was there a good week, maybe a little bit longer. They didn't give her a shower. It was pretty bad. Once they got over the holidays, they got better. The activities are not what they say they are. For instance, they don't really have anything on Saturday or Sunday even though they list activities. They don't have the movie even though they keep listing them because nobody knows how to fix the DVD player. The activities could be much better. They know the TV is broken. They know that there aren't going to be enough people there on the weekends. I don't think they're making so much effort. The food ranges from pretty lousy to very good. It depends on whether the chef is there. If the chef is there cooking, the food is very good. If it's an assistant, then it can be mediocre to lousy.

We visited the assisted living facility of Sterling House. The rooms are standard rooms and sanitation seemed very good. They had the luncheon and the main dining hall. We ate there and it was good. There were a couple of choices. We talked to other residents a little bit and they were fairly happy with the place.

Sterling House was clean and you can tell the residents have activities throughout the day. They were caring and honest from the start. Financially, we could not be there.

We went to visit Sterling House of West Melbourne II for my dad. It was a small place with a very warm and friendly atmosphere. The building was very well-kept and it was also close to where I lived. We looked at one apartment which was a good size for a single man. It had two main rooms, a big bathroom, a little kitchenette, a nice view outside the window, and a little clearing where he could put plants or a birdbath. Pets were also allowed, so that was very appropriate because he had a small dog. Holly was the name of the lady who worked with us. She had been amazing with helping us with everything, she worked really hard. I found it most outstanding.

We decided to visit Sterling House of West Melbourne II assisted living facility as we happened to be in the area and it is convenient for my friend's mother's family and friends. The building looked really charming as we drove up. The outer grounds were very fresh, pretty and well maintained with a nice courtyard and seating areas. The staff was able to take care of a variety of people, from those with memory issues to those less ambulatory. Outside excursions included many healthy physical activities so that the seniors can enjoy everything that Florida has to offer. They also have exercise classes and encourage physical activity daily. The private living spaces were spacious and well-designed. There were plenty of professionally trained and caring staff to take care of all of the seniors' needs. Every area was pleasant to be in. The communal rooms included a variety of activities - from board games to reading, parties and general socializing, there were many interesting things to do for all of the residents - at any level of ambulation. There was a variety of types of food available. Choices ranged from complete meals to snacks or lighter fare. Every dietary concern seemed to be well addressed. The dining rooms were restaurant style, cozy, warm and still contemporary and fresh. All of the seniors looked very well cared for and seemed quite content living within this environment. They had just the amount of individualized care that each required.
