My mom is currently in Vero Beach Care Center. It was immaculately clean and smelled refreshing. The furnishings and decor were beautiful. The director of admissions was very warm and sincere, not at all pushy. What I like about their rehabilitation program is that they had an area right in the center surrounded by glass. They encouraged family members and friends to come in and cheer them on, so they didn't feel so alone and could better set goals.

Run away as fast as you can! I wish I could give zero stars. Family member was there. Only got a bath about once a month and then only after asking repeatedly. I left a cell phone for my mother in law to call me. She called during the night and left phone on for over a hour could hear other patients yelling “help”. The place attempts to put on a front during the day but I’m telling you they hide behind a persona. A girl that still works there contacted me and I won’t disclose her info as I feel she needs her job. She said the care is not good and they are understaffed. I’m not claiming abuse but I’m claiming crappy care! They do the bare minimum minus some. This should be treated like a persons home. It’s a dirty institution.food is awful and no choices it’s like the people are in grade school.. you get what they got and it’s usually cold and disgusting You won’t find any of the staff eating it! Mother in law lost 13 lbs in there and she is a small woman. As soon as we got her home she ate good food and regained the lost weight Don’t put a loved one there even if they need therapy The 20-30 min of therapy they give can be done at home!!! Medication was ordered to be given at 6 am and many days she got it super late or one time at 4:30 am Who wakes up a senior at 4:30 to give a 6am med? Said the girl/nurse would not raise head of bed and told her just take a sip and go back to sleep. My family member is not confused but many patients there are. One confused patient would wonder into her room and be there over 60 min before someone would lead her out and then she would return again. The administration gives generic responses to all complaints and couldn’t care less I thought about this a while before writing as I know this place is understaffed but no excuse for the dirty uncaring atmosphere

My brother was in Consulate first in Rehab, then in their long term section. He was happy there .. he spent almost 2 years there and recently passed away. He liked the food and the staff .. they tended to all his needs. Especially Milt, and Princess who took him to all his doctor appointments. It was good knowing he was happy and well taken care of.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident of Consulate Health Care of Vero Beach. The food is so-so, it is an everyday food and is pretty good. The staff here is very nice. The rooms are not as clean as you want them to be, though. With the virus, we just stay here in our room and if we leave the room, we put a mask on before we walk out. That is how they want it because the virus is not looking good outside. We don't get much in activities, we don't get much of anything. They don't let us go out and do shopping, there is a lot that we don't do in here. We also eat in our rooms. The staff is nice, and they try to do their best to take care of us. The facility is alright. We just stay in our rooms and watch TV or movies. For the money, it's not bad in here, it is reasonable.

My family member was there after an illness and needed rehab. The rooms are clean and the floors shine. The staff is friendly and the nurses seem to be knowledgable and caring, They have a ARNP that is there M-F and sometimes on weekends, very helpful. The aides are very helpful although sometimes not enough of them. Therapy was good. The administrative staff was visible and very approachable. The food was not the best and really is the only thing that needs improvement. No activities but was in rehab. Most everyone seemed happy.

The rooms are kept clean. Interactions with staff for 1yr were professional and caring. Residents have choices of group activities, visits to dr offices were handled promptly. If asked the staff will cooperate and comply with the wishes of the client.

This facility is the worst I have ever seen.. The staff is imune to the feelings of the patients. I found the Consulate to be dark and dirty. I have no idea where the cleaning people are. The nurses are nasty and mIn to the patients.. Please if you have any place to send a relative or friend, please do so.. I am so upset about the patient know. He has gone downhill so much, I can't believe it.. His meds are always late and he is supposed to have rehab and he is not taken. I have gone there and found 8 dirty cups on his tray. There is no reason for that.. He has bed sores and embolisms. Don't put a family member there..I give 0 stars.

Other

My husband was a patient for 6 months. There should be two reviews. 1. The facility: it is old and dark and GRIM. Gives a feeling of so what the patients don't know anyway! The rooms are neat and clean but OLD AND DARK!! It is however very clean, and well kept up. 2. the staff: in the 6 months my husband was there he was very well taken care of. I was always informed of what was taking place. He was always clean . ( yes there were times when he needed to have diapers changed quicker but because the staff is minimal they responded as quick as possible. You get bad reviews because the need is to make the facility a HAPPY LOOKING PLACE. THAT IS ALSO Way I GAVE THE Consulate only a three rating.

My friend was in Consulate Health. I wouldn't send my brother there for any reason because they're crooks. We wanted to get her out of there, but they wouldn't put her out because it was against doctor's advice (mostly because her INR was too high). They let her out a few month's later, but she had a doctor's appointment prior to that. They took her to the doctor and they took her over to her bank. They wanted her bank statement be sent to them and she said no. She got discharged and we checked her bank account because her Social Security for $900 goes in on the 3rd of the month, but they took it, so they're crooks. Don't ever send anybody to Consulate. The facility was OK. It had rooms and beds, TVs, and phones, and stuff like that.

Wish they would close.

I can not believe this place is still open. It is dirty. The supervisor is rude. The rest of the help is rude as well. They are uncaring and when you ask them to help the patient they complain about the patient. The patients are left to die. They are basically on their own. So uncared for. I would rather die then end up at this facility.

A DUMP. They don't even put Depends on the residents at night - they put TOWELS under them. Can't even keep decent help once they see how awful the place is they quit.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was in this facility for just under three weeks, I must say it was the longest three weeks of my life!! I begged and pleaded with my family to get me out after being there for 3 days. The discharge planner Tom dragged his feet and was so ill organized I can't begin to tell you and rude beyond rude!! The building's administrator is also incredibly rude and clearly doesn't understand the needs of the patients that he serves. The food is always very cold and with little choices, one night they gave my roommate a peanut butter sandwich because they forgot to give her a food tray I felt terrible for this poor woman. A few days later they gave me a new roommate and two days after she was there she was on the floor next to her bed for over 1 hour screaming before anybody came in to assist her, I pushed my call button as well but did not get anyone there any sooner. The therapy department very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable after each session. Unfortunately over all my stay there was terrible I really feel bad for the patients that are not able to communicate and let their needs be known, furthermore the staff does not seem to care about the patients at this facility. Under no circumstances will I return to that building and my family agreed as well.

Zero stars here too...my mother went in after having heart failure for rehab. They asked what our after-discharge plan was, and we told them she'd be returning to her home. "We'll put her in the 'Journey Home' program, then", we were cheerfully told. Weeks later when they were resisting our efforts to get t her out and dogging me about getting her on Medicaid so they could keep her, my wife told them she was on the Journey Home program. The discharge scheduler actually told her, "All of our residents are on a journey home!" I will never EVER let her be taken there again! This place is a death mill, nothing more

I couldn't say enough about how horrible this rehab is. The director of the facility was disrespectful to my mom and dad. They are understaffed and the staff that they do have spend more time smoking and talking on the phone outside than caring for their patients. My mom had two falls and injuries while under their care. The last fall out of the bed left her on the floor for a ridiculous amount of time before help arrived. Two days after that fall she passed away :( I wouldn't recommend this facility if it was the last place on earth. The "doctors" they have spent 1 minute with my mom and then billed us an inordinate amount of money. This is the worst place ever. I can't help but believe that my mother is dead because of their lack of care. I hope everyone who sees this passes this "rehab" up. It seems they are all about the money,

Truthfully I would click zero stars if I could. No one should place a loved one in this facility. My great aunt was placed in the care of Consulate to recover from a fall. There was no effort made to get her walking again (she broke no bones in the fall) and she desperately wanted to walk again. Instead they kept her sedated in bed, or put her in a wheel chair. The wheel chair had no head support so her head was constantly falling back or to the side. She had sores from being left in the bed for long periods of time. When she couldn't eat from the sedation no effort was made to make sure she had water and nourishment. My great aunt suffered a stroke a couple of weeks ago which paralyzed the left side of her body, and left her unable to speak or eat. Consulate insisted that she did not have a stroke but was just tired. They proceeded to not feed her until she died a couple of days ago. We are heartbroken. No one should have to suffer in this way.

My aunt received mostly terrible care at this facility. She had terrible sores from the skin splitting open, her feet were so swollen from not being elevated. There were also sores (unreported) from too much sitting in wheelchair, plus sores on her wrists from banging on the wheelchair trying to get heard for some help. On at least one occasion the nurse admitted they had kept her up and restrained in a wheelchair 24 hours. They sedated her so deeply, at times for 24 hours, that she couldn't be woken up to eat or drink. I also walked into the hallway and caught the staff making humiliating jokes and poking fun at her. A week ago, when my aunt suddenly lost use of her left side and all ability for speech, the nurse on duty said no, it wasn't a stroke, that my aunt was "just tired". It was not long from that day to the end. If you want respect, good care, or comfort for your loved one, do not put them in Consulate.

Horrible care even in REHAB. My loved one suffered because of horrendous bedsores I didnt know about. There were days I had To DEMAND they get him up. The food was awful and many times the trays were set too far away for the residents to help themselves no sugar or any fresh fruit. Communicating with nurses was next to impossible and you had to get aggressive to get them to even talk to you. Find a Dog Kennel you will get better care! I would rate it NO stars but it won't let me.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility with my school age daughter in an effort to bring company and cheer to the resident during the holiday season. There was a horrific odor of urine in several of the hallways. The staff were courteous to us, but a bit impatient with the residents. I noticed lots of staff members clumped together gossiping and a supervisor reminding them to get back to their duties. A smoking room is provided for residents who smoke. It was difficult to breathe when walking past it because it was so polluted with cigarette smoke. The facility appeared clean and orderly despite the bad odors. It is nicely decorated. Plenty of activities seem to be available for the residents to participate in. We observed a group of ladies getting their nail painted in one area and someone playing the piano for the residents in another. The menu for the day is prominently posted and looked appealing. The residents that we saw appeared to be well cared for.

I am a past client of this provider

It was a horrifying and painful experience for my father and for the family. My father haz Alzheimer's and we placed him at Consulate when his care became too much for my mother. Consulate has an Alzheimer's wing and supposedly specializes in the care of patients with Alzheimers. This could not be farther from the truth. I'm not going to go back through the painful details but I implore those that might be considering Consulate to rethink what is truly best for their loved one. Our loved ones should always be safe, cared for in a dignified manner, and shown respect.
