I was not sure about a "day care" for my adult mother, I was informed from a few people about them & that it may be a good thing for the both of us. I am the daughter & I live with my mother now for the past 2 1/2 years. What I did not realize was that I was needing a break & my mother needed other actives also. I looked at this place Council on Aging up & called they welcomed me to come down to check it out & see how they run. I spoke with the head leader Sandi, and from that time on the phone I was made to feel so comfortable with my thoughts, concerns, feelings & emotions. For the first time I felt my feelings were lagit & that this might be the best thing for my mother. Well after visiting them with my sister & my mother, we felt 100% secure that this was a good start. I had a lot of guilt bringing her because I thought I was not taking care of of myself & like I was dumping her off to others, she thought I was not coming back, I reassured her I was & so did the staff. The first day I took her it was for a 1/2 day (4 hrs). When I picked her up she was just radiant, happy & felt like she had a group of new friends. My favorite part of it was the staff, they are by far the kindest, sweetest most loving group of women I had ever met. Not one single staff member looked or acted like they did not love their job, they smile and make every signal person feel so special as if "you" are a VIP guest! They have not only loved my mother, helped her & made her feel like a queen, but they have personally given me encouragement, mental support & have been so uplifting. Now when I bring my mother it's a relief knowing we both get a break & she has fun when they do their activities, she loves to sing...they sing, they do tons of art projects, games, excersize & great field trips. And when I pick her up, we'll she's like a little kid, she never wants to leave. I'm so thankful for these women & the unconditional love they give to my mother & all these other beautiful seniors. I pray we never ever lose this place, it has been a gift from God & not only my mom but I will forever be great full for Sandi & her staff of angels at Council On Aging day care. Check them out, they are 100% the real deal!!! Info@coawfla.org www.coawfla.org I know my mother & I received a gift from this place & I know God planted that seed, we are on a better path now.
