I toured Brookdale Panama City. It was a wonderful experience. Everything was nice, neat, and clean, and smelled good. Everybody was friendly. I like the facility and everything about it. The staff was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions thoroughly. The residents were sitting in the sunroom and sitting out in the screen room, but there were no activities at that particular time that were planned. The room size is very nice. Each resident gets their own little apartment, you bring your furniture in, and it's just perfect for one person.

I loved Brookdale Panama City a lot. The tour experience was good. The living space was nice for assisted living. It had a little living room, a kitchenette, and a nice courtyard. The staff was all great. The rooms were nice. The cleanliness was good.

Brookdale Panama City was a good one. I liked it except they had to keep the front door locked because of the area they were in. They had to put a code in too, and only the staff knew the code. So, if you're coming in to see your family or something, you have to wait until somebody can come to the door and put the code in to let you in. I didn't like that. The place was very nice. The staff was very welcoming and very nice. They were telling me about all the activities they were having and that they were going to have a guy who was bringing in six exotic animals for the clients. They were all looking forward to seeing these animals.

My mother-in-law will be moving to Brookdale Panama City. We chose it because it was close to family and it was clean and secure. It was just what we were looking for actually. The room that we chose is clean and freshly painted. It's large enough. It has internet. All meals, electricity, and water are included. They have a salon. They do not have a pool that I know of, but my mother-in-law is not going to use a lot of the amenities. The lady we spoke to was wonderful and was very helpful. She had all the information we needed right there written out and gave it to us. We had a family of five women, so there were five of us who were there for the tour, and she took as much time as we needed.

The staff and everything about Brookdale Panama City was very nice. The only thing was they were much more expensive and would cost more than what my mom could afford, but it was very nice and clean. The rooms were very roomy, very appealing, and very homey. That staff was very friendly and very, very attentive. The dining area was very nice too. If she could afford it, we would have put her there.

We would probably use Brookdale Panama City because it's the one closest to home. It was a really nice place. The sizes of the rooms were nice and they had just about everything we want.

My mother is already enrolled in Brookdale Panama City. I think it is great. Mom is smiling a lot more than she was when she was at home. People are very kind and I have enjoyed every time I have gone there. Her apartment is pretty big. She has a bathroom in there and a kitchenette. It is just a twin bed, but that is all she needs. It has some nice pictures on the wall, it is bright, and she likes bright colors. The painting up on the wall had flowers on it and she likes that. She is happier there than in the home.

Brookdale was very nice. The staff was courteous and answered all of our questions. The dining area was clean, and there were couple of people there having coffee. Overall, I thought it was OK, and I felt comfortable. However, they could improve on making their rooms bigger and allow more things that people could bring like animals because you know people like to have animals.

Brookdale Panama City is very lovely but I don’t think it was fit for what my parents really want or need. The staff were very nice and helpful. I look at it as a glorified apartment complex because the people living there don’t have a need for too much assistance. They have everything there like a gym, a pool, spas, and other amenities. The facility is very nice but one would need a lot of money to buy in.

Brookdale Panama City was very nice and very clean. The residents seemed to be very comfortable. I like the place. I did have it as one of the two places that my husband would like to go to. The staff was very efficient. The young lady that took care of me, she presented the whole thing from the beginning to the end, all the amenities that my husband would have. She showed me the room that was available at the time. It was very clean. At that time, they were about getting ready to start cooking, and it smelled very good and very clean. The tables were clean. They did have like a gym, and they were having some kind of a church activity. There was another gentleman walking in the backyard with an employee. He wasn’t by himself. They were very willing to help him in anyway they could. He seemed to be very satisfied and happy walking. I thought this would be something good for my husband.

We have visited Brookdale Panama City for my aunt. It was a secure place. We ate a meal there, and the food was good. The dining area was quite nice, too, and more like a restaurant. The apartments looked good, but they were a little bit short on certain types of rooms. We also saw their schedule and bulletin board, and they seemed quite adequate. They had trips, which was a good thing.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I took my dad to Brookdale Panama City, and I had him there for two weeks. My brothers checked in on him, and he was lying in urine a lot of the time he was there. After we took him out, we found out he had UTI, which was probably why he was urinating. He also fell while he was in there, so he did not really have a good experience.   On top of that, their billing department and their head quoted me one price. I tried to pay it for two months. They did not cash my check. So I cancelled the check because I kept calling them, and they were not returning my calls. I finally talked to a woman and explained to her what was going on, and I asked her, "What are you all trying to do – double it?" She said, "Oh no, we're not trying to do that." So they had me paying them $1400. I'm like, "OK, why are you charging me something other than what we initially discussed?" And they got snotty with me because they were charging me less. I said, "Well, my point is I do not want my father to have a bill come back later because only half of it was paid."   I was not happy with them. Everything was supposed to be covered. My brothers kept going there. They had to keep asking for towels and shampoo. They were washing him while he was there because he stunk from being in his urine. I would not recommend them to anybody else. His room was fine. It looked clean. I did not care for the food too much. I had lunch there one day. My brother went to check on my dad one evening, and he said all they had given him was a salad. He can't eat salad. He does not have any teeth. They were supposed to be chopping up the food. I do not have anything positive to say about the place.

My mom was in Sterling House for 18 months. Their cleaning of the room was very much lacking. We sometime had to ring the emergency buzzer several times to get assistance. We had to hire sitters to watch my mom as they just didn't do the job at all of watching her. The Nurseing staff is week at best in my opinion. The night crew is very limited and needs to be checked into as they were very limited in timely response to problems. It is apparently a $ issue to keep their crew at a minimum number to help the patients. Nothing seems to matter to them except the almighty $! There were many issues during the 18 months mom was there to include stopped up shower drains which took 2 days to get it fixed only after it started to run out on the carpet in the main room. Never was the room dusted except when my sister or I did it. To get the floor vacuumed was like pullin teeth. I could go on and on but I think you get the message.

Provider Response

We are committed to our residents care as well as our scheduled cleaning of apartments and address all maintenance issues as they occur.

I went to Sterling House -- which was a very nice facility -- and their maintenance was very good. The staff were all very helpful. A lady tried to keep in touch with telephone calls and emails, and I was very impressed. The rooms and the dining facility were very nice.

Sterling House has a good nursing staff. They are very competent and very friendly, and they seem very compassionate. They have a lot of recreational things for the residents. They have a safe environment. There are safety features in each room like call buttons and grab bars. The rooms are excellent and very clean. My parents are very happy with it. They’re not happy to be away from home, but happy that it’s a good environment.

I am working to get my wife into Sterling House of Panama City right now. I like the fact that they have other people there that can interact with her. They also have 24-hour coverage. They seemed like they have good meal preparation and they have activities for the residents. They facility is a pretty nice place, but the apartments are expensive. They have four different apartment sizes and you can choose to have a smaller or a larger one.

I visited Sterling House. This facility was nice and clean. I saw one of their rooms for one person and they were small. They were as big as a small bedroom when you're in a house.

My mom has just moved in a facility called Sterling House. The place is all right. It is clean. It is a place for memory impaired individuals and also for those needing regular assisted living. They have them mixed together and they're not separated, which is good, I think. They have plenty of staff there and they are very helpful. They were helpful in getting my mom over there. With regards to amenities, because my mom is memory impaired, she really isn't able to enjoy any of them so far.

From what I can remember, the nursing home was always very clean and helpful in terms of my grandmother. However, she used to complain about the quality of food at times, and the activities they held on a weekly basis.
