We found Brookdale Avondale for my father. He already moved in there. It is closer, it isn't as big as a lot of other communities, and hopefully, everything goes well. The staff is pretty good, he likes the breakfast there, but they don't cook like his children cook. It's a good move-in experience. I like it because it's all on one level, it's very nice, it's not too big, and the rooms are perfect. He has his own private room and he has a sitting area. Everything is nice. They don't have the activities that they talked to us about due to them being in the quarantine for some time. It's pricey.

Brookdale Avondale was very, very clean. When I walked in, I didn't smell anything. The staff showed us the entire place, and it was very nice. I love the way it was set up because it felt like an apartment setting as opposed to a nursing home. All the doors were closed. They had addresses or names or some type of identity on every door. And I was just impressed. It was sparkling. The staff who gave the tour was wonderful. She was so patient and so caring. She was great. The dining room was clean. They had a library. Everything was clean, nice, and comfortable looking.

All of them were very cooperative, welcoming, and always willing to provide any answers we may have. They are very accommodating. The food was good.

Brookdale Avondale was a little too small for my mom. The other residents were quite a bit older than my mother, so we ended up not choosing this one, but it was a very nice facility. The staff was amazing. My mom just felt like it wasn't a good fit for her just yet. The other reason I didn't choose this facility was the location, which is very close to 17, but the building was very nice. It was very safe, which I liked. The views out of the windows were all nice. The courtyard in the center was very nice.

The rooms at Brookdale Avondale were nice and spacious. I liked the fact that the staff was very knowledgeable, very polite, and very patient. The person that's in charge was very knowledgeable and provided all the information to me. Even the manager came up to us, introduced herself, welcomed us, and wished us luck. The meal was excellent, and the dining room was set up nicely. The residents looked very busy. I saw a reading nook, some were ready to go shopping, some were doing puzzles, and some were just relaxing while the staff was talking to them. The place was nice and reasonably priced.

We toured Brookdale Avondale. We scheduled a tour with a contact person there. We did not get to meet with him, but we did have someone step in to give us the tour. It was chaotic there, and it was hard to find my way around if they didn't tell me where I was. The cost was like $2000 cheaper, almost $3000 than where Mom is now. They had dogs on the premises, too. Some of the people that work there had their own dogs, they are used as comfort dogs, and that was nice. My mother loves dogs. They did a really good job on the tour. But they were a little discombobulated that they had to jump in and didn't know where the contact person was. It wasn't the worse I've seen, and it wasn't the best I've seen. It was just a little more chaotic maneuvering around in the hallways and such. We saw rooms that they had for show and such. They were nicely set up and nicely done. They did not look like a hospital room. It was nice. When you come in the front, you go straight ahead and there's a dining area and a sitting area. Down the hall from the front entrance down to the left are their offices, and there's an activity room. The facility is just average. Not the worse, but not the best.

Brookdale Avondale assisted living was one floor and no elevators. They had an outside garden area in the center of the facility. The dining room was more a place where they were served, and they were served on glassware. They were much smaller than the other ones I've been to. They had puzzles everywhere, and that's pretty much what they had. They also had little game activities that they did during the day, but that's pretty much all I know.

I loved Brookdale Avondale. They were very warm, and I liked how when you come in, they have the name set up to welcome you, so I felt very welcomed. I liked the fact that it was very clean. I liked the rooms. I liked the fact that they seemed very organized. There were some elderly people at a table playing cards, and they were very welcoming also. I liked the amenities, the therapy room, and the hair salon room. I just liked it all together overall. I liked the outside. I liked the fact that they had a refrigerator in the room, and a little kitchen area. I liked the living room area and the bedroom. I just liked everything about the actual apartment. It was very homey. The staff was very kind and gave us enough information. They had a reading area where they could sit and relax. They made it really nice, and it would really make the seniors comfortable.

Our family was very happy with the care and attention given to our family member while she was living there. Her likes and needs were met and she was very content living at this facility. She felt like it was her home. Any questions or concerns were handled in a timely manner. The staff sincerely cares for their residents. We were always kept up to date on our family members health and well-being.

My dad is currently residing at Brookdale Avondale. They're a very nice, clean, friendly community. I like everyone who works there, and the food is good. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is easy to get to and they maintain their grounds very well. My dad has a nice little room, in which they put in new carpeting. It also has a nice little kitchenette area with a microwave and a little refrigerator. They take them places in their van and have games days.

My mom (96) has been here two months and says she wishes she could live forever so she could keep eating the food. She loves the food, loves the staff. I love how easy it is to visit.

My mother-in-law has been in Brookdale for six weeks now. It's a small, very personal community that's very close to our home. They know everybody by name and that's what she likes. She's very happy there. They have a lot of activities going on, but she is not able to participate. The food is fine, and the staff is wonderful.

Brookdale Avondale was very nice and clean, and had nice staff. The lady I dealt with showed me around. The rooms were clean and the residents seemed happy. However, it wasn't a good fit for my mother.

Brookdale Avondale was very nice and very impressive. It had more dining options, and we liked it very much. It was a little more expensive than the others, but it would be worth it.

My mother is already in Brookdale, and she has been there for a couple of months now. I like that it is home-style atmosphere. They rooms are OK. She is in a companion room, but she do not have a companion yet. It is big enough for another person. The food is OK, but I am a little concern that they do not feed them enough fruits, vegetables and fish. Things that are better for them in their age. They can improve on the quality of food. It looks like an old cottage from the outside. Then when you go in, they are comfortable. It is not clinical. It is more of a homestyle look.

I thought Brookdale Avondale was a little expensive for what they offered. However, it looked like a place my mom would love because it was very small. The apartments were very small. They did not have any two-bedrooms. The staff was awesome. The dining area looked very nice. It was more like home. It was cozy.

We had a nice tour at Sterling House, and we saw all the services that they provided. It was an older facility, but it was nice. They were very patient-oriented. All of the staff, I was sure then they saw a tour guide bringing people, put on their best behavior. They were all friendly and on a first-name basis with their people. I looked into various offices, and I didn't see any dissention in the work place. If there had been, they couldn't hide it that quickly with us coming down the hall. It was nice, but my husband was not really impressed with it because he said it reminded him of the place where his sister was in. It was full nursing care, and I thought they had assisted living because I saw a lot of people going about as they wanted. It was very secure. It wasn't really roomy because the smallest unit I saw was two beds in a very small room. So, it was definitely confined.

We visited Sterling House, and it was very nice. It was closer to our other relatives. The staff was fine. I thought my sister would have been fine there. However, my she liked to walk outside, and it had no place to walk outside.

Sterling House was very clean. They had just redone it. The rooms and walls are newly painted and they had redone the floors, too. However, to me it was cold because it didn't have a whole lot of furniture and decorations.

My aunt resided at Sterling House of Merrimac and the facility is very nice. From what I recall, the staff are very attentive and the place was very clean. It was very modern looking. Everything was just very impressive. She had a studio apartment with a little kitchen and it was very nice.

My father is at the Sterling House. I live here in Jacksonville and I needed to be near him that's why I placed him there. This is an assisted living facility. I am a nurse and I would prefer that there was a better nursing care there. They have LPNs who are petty good but there is only one RN who is over everything. They got problems with messages getting lost from 3-11 shift to the morning shift because they don't have anybody to give report to during the night and there is no nurse on duty at nighttime. The second thing that I think is problematic is the aides that they have. They missed a lot on little things in caring for my father. If I didn't go there every single day to see him, a lot of things that I have insisted on would not get done. Overall, their staff is fairly good but I just have to be there daily to check on those little things, e.g. changing sheets, feeding my father, etc. They do need to educate their aides more in terms of caring for their patients. They also need an RN that goes around making sure that these aides are taking care of their patients properly. They need someone to oversee the little things. Their activity director there is good but activities are dumbed down. They are not age appropriate for their residents. They have people there who may be 96 years old but don't want to color. They also don't offer card games. They play bingo and that's it. There is a lot of rooms for improvement in terms of the activities they offer. I also think they could improve on with regard to food. Aside from them not getting big portions, residents would have mashed potatoes five to six times a week. For what we're paying there in a year, food should be better.

I have a friend that recently moved in the Sterling House and I am very impressed with it's cleanliness. We visited that person regularly. It is a little expensive and their rooms are quite small, but my friend likes this facility very much. Also their staff seems very competent and very nice. They really could improve on the sizes of their rooms and also maybe make living their more affordable.

I have never wanted my grandparents to have to live at a senior living center, due to the fact that I am a nurse and would love to care for them myself. However, it is just not possible at the time and I feel that we couldn't have picked a better place. Not only is the environment beautiful, but the staff is so pleasant and welcoming, but also the staff treats everyone like they are individuals and truly listen to the problems the residents have. The rooms are always clean and in the times that I have been present the staff responds to the residents in a timly manner and do not leave them waiting all day to receive help. My grandparents and I also feel that the food they offer is top of the line, among many other services they provide. They even off nutritious snacks throughout the day, where as other facilities sometimes did not and also did not offer very tasty food. I am very pleased that we choose this as their new home and I plan on visiting as much as I can.
