We moved my Mom from Canada into Brookdale Deland 14 mos ago to be closer to my brother. There was a massive amount of coordination, furniture ordering and assembling that was required for her room to be ready when we arrived. Tracy was amazing and truly detailed oriented to get the job done. Mom arrived to a beautiful room, a staff welcome and flowers. In the ensuing 14 mos Mom has settled in well and feels safe and happy at Brookdale. And she loves the food and the activities:) The staff has worked with our family to resolve any issues that arise. We highly recommend Brookdale Deland. Thank you to Sharon, Charity, Coleen and Sarah for your caring oversight.

Brookdale DeLand has individual apartments for each resident. They were clean and cool. They almost all had a view of the interior courtyard. To my dad, activities and the staff there were very nice. The thing about them is that they have an elevated license, which is good. It's not a skilled nursing facility, but since they have a higher license, they can treat different things like diabetes and dialysis. They can administer those things there. Most assisted living facilities do not allow that because they don't have the license.

Brookdale DeLand is an excellent community. What I like most was that it didn't have that hospital type smell. It was clean. It was wonderful. It smelled like being at home. Everything was clean. It was just fresh. I heard music a lot, and I like that, too. The staff members were very, very friendly, and very welcoming. They have a dining room and I liked that my loved one won't have to be confined to a room to eat. Not only that, but she can also eat her food in the dining room, or she can take it back to her apartment. It would be up to her, it's her choice. The staff member who toured me was wonderful. The dining hall was a big area, but the tables and chairs looked like being at home. The highlight there is the openness of everyone. They've answered my questions and asked if I had any more questions. They were very patient and very open with me.

I visited Brookdale DeLand a year ago. It's a small community. The people there seem to really care. I liked the different sizes of the apartments/bedrooms and the activities that they have. I liked the dining room area. It is set up like something small and it's really nice. The staff seemed to be OK. We were invited to eat there, but I haven't really tried the food. They had a huge area where they could sit and watch TV. I liked that they have puzzles set up and magazines so they are not always in their apartments/bedrooms. There are different things they can do. It's a small community and that's what we really liked about it, but it's big enough. They have an outside patio where they can come and go. They go out shopping. They have a van. They have a nurse on staff and a hairdresser.

I liked Brookdale DeLand. I had an excellent tour experience, and it was very promising. The person I met with was very, very reassuring in every sense of the word. The staff was very friendly, very professional, and caring. The dining room was very nice, and I was impressed with how they would serve the food. Most special dietary needs would be addressed. They had a chef and the food was prepared in-house. They had exercise classes, and different things to keep people active and their minds active. Every other weekend, they have a nondenominational church service, which was very important for my mom and my aunt. I liked the fact that anyone that is able and wants to get out of the facility, will take them to activities in the community. Most recently, they took several residents on their bus to downtown DeLand to the dog parade. She assured me that I or family or friends could come any time and take them out to lunch or activities. They would take them to their doctor visits. We could use their in-house doctor or we could stay with their own doctors.

I toured Brookdale DeLand. It's a much smaller place. It seemed like it was at capacity when I went there. The rooms weren't quite as big as what I was looking for, and that would be my only downside to that one. That probably would have been my second or third choice. It just seemed like they were really on the spot. They contacted me a lot afterwards, asked a lot of questions, and offered some helpful advice. They had a library, a really nice back porch area, and a nice courtyard.

My overall visit at Brookdale DeLand was good. The staff members were very pleasant and very informative. They gave me dinner, and it was fine. The staff told me about the amenities. The dining area looked more like a restaurant. The facility was clean.

My mother was here from 7/31/20- to 1st week in Dec. Where do I begin? The sales person was great at her job as she made this place seems wonderful. When we moved my mother into her room, there were bugs in it. We should have left then but we wouldnt have gotten our money back. And they charged us for a FULL MONTH AFTER 1 DAY!! The staff, with a few exceptions are nasty and don't seem to care. When spoken with, they seem bothered. Cheryl, NEVER wants to talk to family members face to face nor on the phone and will only deal with us via email or text! They kept ordering her diapers costing $190 each month knowing she had boxes and boxes and boxes of them and did not need more ordered! Donna the nursing supervisor was just plain nasty and again, seemed like I was bothering her! My mother twice refused to get out of the transport vehicle and they called me at 3-4AM to help them! Really? Aren't they supposed to be knowledgeable about dealing with people with early dementia? And she was ill for at least 2 weeks before her last trip to the hospital where she was for 3 weeks and finally died. They tried to charge me for extra things and she wasn't even there to receive any of those extra things! Also, I'm not in the medical field..when they saw she was ill, THEY should have sent her to the hospital and not asked me if she should go. This place did "activities" only 1x a week and that was a joke! Other than that, there is nothing for the people to do! Staff is stretched so they have to do other people's jobs which means they aren't there to do their jobs which is to care for the residents

My father is very happy at Brookdale, the staff is very friendly and helpful and they have activities for them every day, my only complaint is I believe they are short staffed, but other than that it’s a nice place!

My mom has moved into Brookdale DeLand. It is OK. It is very clean. The people are friendly. So far, we are happy with it. There are group activities that they do together. They have ice cream socials one weekend between lunch and dinner. They seem to keep them moving. They offer three meals a day plus anything my mom wants in between. Transportation is available over short-distances. At this point, my mom's needs are met, so that's the main thing. She is eating well, and she is responding well to new environment better than they thought she would. We are happy with it. The staff members are very friendly. They seem helpful, and they have everything basically taken care of.

Brookdale DeLand was very nice. It was clean, but the room would be empty. The person who showed us around was a very nice lady. She was very helpful. The dining area was very nice. There was also a living room area with a TV and a fireplace, which was very nice too.

My visit to Brookdale DeLand was very good. It's smaller, but very family oriented. It has the memory care unit right there, so a couple can stay together, you just kind of move down to another hallway. It's just a one-floor facility, and they did really well with the hurricane last year, which is certainly significant here in Florida. About a block and a half away is skilled nursing and Deland Hospital, so that's very convenient. The staff was awesome.

My mom spent the last two years of her life at Sterling House and it was fantastic! She was happy and enjoyed being with others, social activities, and being able to be private in her little 'apartment'. The staff there is fabulous - caring and concerned, but authoritative when needed! They were wonderful with my mom the last few days of her life - the love she felt was great. Three of the staff actually came to my mom's funeral. I would highly recommend it to others looking for a new home for their loved one.

We visited Brookdale DeLand. It's a very nice, newer place with different-sized room choices. I think they need to update it a bit, although I think they are updating now. It seemed to be well staffed, which is good.

The Sterling House of Deland (Brookdale DeLand) would be our second choice. They have like little townhomes or duplexes. Their dining room was nice. It was very nice and clean. We did eat there, and I thought the food was excellent. The gentleman who took us for a tour was very professional and very polite. Actually the people in the home were really great too because they invited us to stay, and we were able to have dinner there and sit with some of the residents. The facility was very clean. It wasn't a gated community, which wasn't bad.

The staff at Brookdale DeLand was very organized and very friendly, but my father needs more assistance than what they can provide right now. The rooms/apartments were very clean and very nice. They're very updated. They almost looked like they're brand new. The dining room was nice. They have some activities. As for security, they have a door where they can't go out unless they have somebody that would let them out. It was a locked facility. I would recommend them only for assisted living because it didn't seem as though they're capable of doing anything more than that.

I have a parent who is currently a resident at Sterling. After being in several other facilities prior, I can highly recommend Sterling House. Everything from the staff, nursing, atmosphere, cost, accomodations, meals, all excellent! It is more of a home/apartment setting, rather than some that resemble hospital settings, or institutions.

My aunt is very pleased with Sterling House. She wanted a smaller environment. This is a very homey atmosphere. They go out several times a week on different outings. My aunt's children have eaten there, and they said the food is very good. It's very clean. There are no bad smells in there. They're painting and cleaning all the time. They just redid the landscaping in the front. It's beautiful; it's very well-kept.
