My mother moved into Academy Point in Mystic in 2018 after falling several times in her home. Her last fall resulted in a severe leg break which required extensive surgery. She was bedridden in a ‘non-load bearing status’ for six months so her leg could heal. My 85-year-old stepfather was unable to care for her needs in their home where she’d likely fall again. So, my spouse and I toured facilities to find them a new home. We decided on Academy Point. The facility is light and clean, staff are friendly and courteous, and my mother has a fabulous view of the mystic seaport from her room. Prices were competitive with other assisted living facilities. When my mother arrived at Academy Pt, she needed a significant amount of assistance completing her basic daily needs. The staff happily provided that care, albeit for an additional cost. As my mother recuperated, she was able to regain control and taper back on the additional services/costs. During this period, my stepfather passed away. Bonnie and her team were great, helping my mom through this difficult transition both physically and emotionally. We even held a memorial service for my stepfather on the back patio at the Academy Point facility. Finally, I should add that Bonnie and her team have managed the Covid situation in a balanced and professional way. My mother received both shots in an expeditious manner. Very few residents became sick. And they made every effort to enable family to visit in a safe manner. Living in the Academy Point community, my mother seems happier than she’s been in years, laughing, telling jokes, arguing about politics. She cares for herself, has friends, attends reading groups, paints in art class, and, prior to Covid, started to play Bridge again. She recently called me to tell me excitedly that she’d been ‘made Dummy’ during her last bridge game. I’m not sure what that means, but I think it’s a good thing!

The rooms are messy and the staff has a disgusting attitude. No thank you!

My tour of Academy Point at Mystic was very good. The person that gave us the tour was excellent. It needed probably some updating. The rugs in the hallways had a lot of stain and things like that, but they were aware of it, and they were planning to do it, but they were delayed due to COVID.

We will be moving our mom to Academy Point at Mystic. We chose this place because it had a homier feel to it compared to others, and the room my mom would have is a nicer room. We're hoping to get her into a one-bedroom apartment, and it really looks like a one-bedroom apartment; it was very nice compared to the other ones. The staff was wonderful, and the director that I've been in contact with is wonderful. She's answered every email that I've sent her, and she's even asked about my mom and how she's doing. She's just been great. We also met the chef, and the food sounded wonderful. The upkeep and maintenance were pretty good. They were actually putting in new data cables when we were there, so it's nice to know that they're constantly trying to keep up with everything. They have basically the same amenities as everybody else, they have the laundry and linen housekeeping services, the food, and the activities. She showed us the activities calendar and it looked great, like it would be a good match for my mom. They have pet therapy and they also offer outings for memory care residents. We got to view their patio outside, which was nice; that lets you know she can go outside and enjoy the weather. Their dining room is just beautiful, they have a view that overlooks the Mystic River, it's just great.

I toured Academy Point at Mystic. I was told by one of the residents that the food was extraordinary, but I did not experience it myself. They showed me a studio, a one bedroom that was like a classroom, after all it was a school, but there was nice woodwork, and about two blocks walk from downtown Mystic. You can see the river from many of the rooms, but I don't think from all of the rooms. The downside was the cost.

I visited Academy Point at Mystic for my dad. It is a beautifully situated, old school house that looks out at the river and is so pretty. It's dated, though, and wasn’t the right kind of place for my father. I didn’t like the memory care unit at all. I was so depressed when I went into the memory unit, but as far as their assisted living and independent living, it was beautiful. The apartments were incredible, airy, and had views of the water. The residents seemed to be happy. I think it was lovely place, but it wasn’t going to work for my father.

Academy Point was absolutely wonderful. Everything that we assessed there suggested that it's a terrific place. We were very impressed, and my brother-in-law liked it too. He just didn't want to leave his house. Everybody that we talked to seemed to be very intelligent and conscientious; you can't ask for much more than that. The rooms were fine and of various sizes, but even the smallest one was adequate. We talked to a couple of the residents, and their activities seemed very appropriate. They showed us the menus, we saw the dining area, and it's all very good. This is a great place.

What I liked about Academy Point at Mystic was that we were able to participate in the music program there, that was very pleasant. Their garden was also very nice with activities. They had gardening outdoor, but it was kind of cramped. They served three meals a day. Everything was included, so that was a very good thing. However, you had to bring your own furniture.

We visited Academy Point at Mystic for my mother. I thought it was lovely. The surroundings were very nice. The people were exceptionally nice. They followed up with phone calls. I think it is a nice place. The rooms were nice. They're small, but it is getting used to the fact that seniors don't need a huge house at that point. The rooms weren't as impressive as the rest of the facility. Though they were small, the view was great on a lot of them. The menu looked good. They have all sorts of activities. One of the nicest things that I think my mother likes was the piano player and being able to sing with everybody.

We liked the Academy Point at Mystic. We felt welcome, and we enjoyed it. Actually, the staff came out to my mom's house too. They were very accommodating, very helpful. We had lunch there and it was good. They have to accommodate various dietary restrictions, so the food isn't heavily salted -- or isn't salted at all -- for restrictions like that, so they obviously care about what they are doing, and they are very nice people. I would absolutely recommend this place because the staff is very caring and they enjoy what they do. It is also a nice facility. It is well taken care of, it is clean, and everybody is just very nice. I had grandparents who were in various nursing homes, and the people weren't quite as nice. The employees here are just really caring and that's what really makes a facility. My mom has been here for 3 months, and she likes it a lot.

Academy Point is physically a little smaller. They have community areas for the people to meet, and a lot of different rooms. The people can go into libraries and game rooms. I thought the staff was very friendly. I didn't taste any food, but it looked lovely. They have menus.

I visited Academy Point. It was a beautiful facility and it was probably the nicest one in town. It had a beautiful and looked out over the river. Gosh! Anybody would want to live there. The staff was nice. They had different rooms, like one-bedroom, two-bedroom and studio. However, it was too expensive.

Academy Point has a nice view and the inside of the facility is very attractive, but expensive. The folks there are very social and the staff there are very nice.
