I visited this facility

We toured Atria Larson Place. The facility was nice and clean. There were a lot of older people hanging around, and the people were so nice. I can't think of anything bad about the place. The common area looks nice. They didn't show much, but we went to a private dining room. It was so fancy too. The staff was nice. The atmosphere was lively because there were lots of elderly people there. So, it's like everybody's just saying hi, and they're playing music.

Atria Larson Place seemed like a very good place and they had some very good ideas about how to proceed in the future. The rooms were very nice. The layout was terrific. People seemed to be very active. The lady was very informative.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has moved into Atria Larson Place. It's extremely neat, clean, inviting, very comfortable, and pretty. It feels like home. The staff members are very good at what they do. I had one medical professional up there who stayed way over her time to get my mom's prescription drugs and everything all set up. They were just very, very attentive. I like the staff. For activities, they have various board games, they do bingo, they do cookouts, and they do little punch cocktail hours. They also do outside games such as cornhole. And then they have a van, which takes them wherever they want to go within 18 miles. My mother said last week the van took all of them out for ice cream. They keep them kind of busy if they want to be busy. The dining area is beautiful. It's a dining room set with linen tablecloth, dishes, glasses, and dinnerware. Then they have a menu where they can select one of two entrees and they have dessert as much as they want. If my mother wants sherbet all day, she could get it. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In conjunction with the menu, they also have a grill menu that is always accessible. If you don't want something that's on the regular menu, you can order something from the grill.

Atria Larson Place was a nice place. I liked it. It was nice and clean, and the people were friendly. They were working on the room that they showed us. It looked pretty good. The staff during the tour was good and professional. I didn't see the food, but I would imagine it would be OK because everybody looked like they were enjoying themselves. They had a little gym and a nice library.

We like the fact that Atria Larson Place is very convenient for people who have mobility issues. We appreciate the fact that there are plenty of activities to keep them active and to not necessarily feel like it is just somewhere you go when you're old or things of that sort. It felt like an actual community and people have their independent lives. Things don't have to change just because their location has changed. The person that toured me around was very welcoming and very personable. She made you feel at home. There is a visiting podiatrist who comes there. There is an onsite medical staff. It's a secure location. There's transportation available. There's medicine management as well. If there are any other kinds of daily needs that the person may need, then that's also available should they need it.

My tour at Atria Larson Place was wonderful. They seemed to have a lot of activities. They would bring in entertainment. They were having a concert in their garden area. The place was beautiful. The staff was professional. The place was state of the art. It was just redone, completely clean, and very well maintained. It was at the top of our list.

Atria Larson Place was absolutely beautiful inside. It looked like it was really taken care of. The people that I talked to were very nice. It was really nice and clean. They had a dining area, and they had different recreational things for you to do. The lady would even call me and ask me to come and participate, but I never got the chance to. The staff was excellent. They treated me really well, and they kept in touch with me to see if I changed my mind. She sent me the cost for living in a studio apartment, but I told her it's too much. I can't afford it.

I visited this facility

We visited Atria Larson Place. There were lots of activities. The individual apartments looked homely and can be individualized to the person who would stay there. They had some larger ones for couples. They also had ones that were set up as people need better access to things, like if they are disabled and using a cane or a wheelchair. Their apartments were set up for people with varied levels of needs. They had a daily cocktail hour where they served snacks and drinks and it was a way for people to get together and watch a movie. They had exercise classes, cooking classes, and arts and crafts. They had a library and a coffee shop where you could grab a coffee or lemonade and play checkers. They also seemed to have a lot of trips like getting ice cream, going to the beach, or catching a local theater show. We liked that they were not strict with the dining options. Residents can have their meals whenever they want. The dining facility was just nice. It didn't look like a cafeteria and it didn't look sterile. It looked like a little restaurant. They made it nice and homey. They did have a variety of sandwiches and they didn't serve the same things day in and day out. They had people come in and play the piano while the people were eating dinner. They had a nurse onsite, so if something were to happen, there was always somebody to assess. There were always people taking care of the grounds outside. You just can tell that everything looked nice and neat, homey, and kept up well. The only drawback was there weren't a lot of options to help out people in different financial brackets. There was no help if you were on Medicare or Medicaid, so that made it very difficult.

Atria Larson Place looked like it would be within my dad's budget. When I visited, everybody was friendly. The lady who toured me around was knowledgeable and friendly. She knew everybody that we came across, whether it was somebody else who worked there or a resident. She was just really willing to go the extra mile to try to help me get something to work out. Everything was so up to date, and very clean, and it's a very comfortable place to be.

I like the way Atria Larson Place looked and I like the programs that were offered. It was clean and neat. The lady that showed me the place was very personable, she was very knowledgeable, answered every question I asked, and there was a lot. I told her my cousin is special needs and she was able to adequately reassure me that she would be taken care of. And most of all, it was affordable. Most of the places are outrageous, nobody can afford to even put their little ones in these places. I was very impressed. So far, the staff members were all personable. We will get to know them, but as far as I know now, they were very nice and I was very impressed. They have a salon and they have an exercise program, which I'm very happy about. I was hesitant was that I saw people just sitting around and it looked depressing, but it was a little better the second time around.

The staff was friendly and informative. I spent about an hour and a half with my guide, who was wonderful. The bedrooms I saw were light and airy with a large bathroom. The residents were playing a memory game that participants found engaging; others were watching a musical video. The facility feels warm and safe; good choice of menus; lovely gardens and outdoor spaces. Loved that memory care participants are a part of concerts and parties with other residents. Small activity room and no real hospital care. Only two staff for 22 memory care residents over night. I would definitely consider this facility for memory care for a loved one.

A family member has moved into Atria Larson Place independent living and it is very nice, very well laid out, and the staff is very professional. The place is very warm and inviting. The staff is very nice and seem to genuinely care about all of their residents. The rooms are very laid out, and very well equipped. They have a monthly schedule of activities that I noticed. I have not witnessed any of them but it looked like they had a good variety of activities for the residents. They have 2 libraries, a hair salon, and a nursing office. They have a dining room, an extra kitchen for private dining, and a room for private dining with people. They have lots of great chairs and seating areas throughout the hallways for people to take a rest and have a conversation, and some beautiful common areas for people to enjoy. I have visited their dining area but did not try the food. It looks like they have a very good variety from the residents that I spoke to, and they enjoyed the food very much. I haven't seen the activities that much but I've seen the schedule and I've seen that they have an entertainer come in every once in a while. They have gatherings, little parties, classes, and things like that. They also have a happy hour in one of the common areas during the day.

My mother-in-law is in assisted living at Atria Larson Place. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. They have a million different kinds of flowers in them. The inside is immaculate and smells so good. It's very clean and well kept. The apartments are very well kept, nothing's broken, nothing's old looking. It's all beautiful. The staff is super friendly and super nice. You could tell that they're very experienced working with elderly people and they're just very welcoming. You could tell they've worked together for a while. They're all very committed to that place and feel very positive about where they work. That feels good, too. She hasn't started activities yet, but they have a walking club and she's a walker. They have lots of things. She's only been there two days, so she hasn't started them yet. They have different exercise classes, yoga, chair bound or standing exercises, movie night, happy hour every day at 3:00 where they have wine or ginger ale or whatever you prefer, and bingo. What we liked about it was that it's not a preset menu where you walk down a line and they sort of slop on today's Salisbury steak or whatever. You sit down in a restaurant on the main floor and they have a whole menu of things that you can pick from to eat. You choose what you want to eat. They have two soups every day and all kinds of food. I think it's a good value. It's a little pricy, but you're getting what you pay for.

My dad was previously at Atria Larson Place in Hamden. Just last month he was in regular assisted living. I would say there are some positive things are that they have. The first is that they have really good COVID protocols. They require their staff to be totally vaccinated. I think that compared to most places, I was actually really impressed with how they handled Covid measures. It was really important. I also think that they have a lot of really great staff, and it's a very clean facility. I think my suggestion would be for them to have more variety of enriching activities. The place was kept up really well. They were a little bit understaffed with nursing, but they were trying to fix that. I think that was just like a temporary thing. Generally, it's a fine facility. It just wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.

After living at Atria for close to 6 years, my mother-in-law needed convalescent care after a hospital stay. Shortly after her notice was given on October 23, 2016 we were asked to vacate her unit within 24 hours and it would save her that month's rent. This was on October 27th. We rushed to move everything out on the 28th in hopes of getting her $$ back in a timely fashion. She was in convalescent care for @3 weeks before she passed. Despite numerous calls to the administration the rental reimbursement or her security deposit has yet to arrive. (Over 2 months since she was moved out) Probably as disturbing to the family is the fact that, having been at the convalescent facility only @3 weeks they received a sympathy card on her passing. Atria was more than willing to take her money for almost 6 years and has NEVER sent an acknowledgement ... Hard enough dealing with the loss but very disappointed to see families taken advantage of in this way.

The food service has gotten increasingly worse. We visit at least once a month and holidays. My family had a great Christmas dinner. Which included a nice visit with the chef. Again our Easter meal was superb. The last two visits...once in May and once in June were disasters. The food is horrible.

Mom has been in Atria since January, but the question is whether she will stay there or not. She is maybe needing a little more than assisted living, so that's a decision that we have to make. A very comfortable facility, it's more like a hotel in appearance. The staff is friendly and helpful. She didn't like the food, but I'm not sure if she would anywhere. The rooms are very comfortable. It's much like home. Size is decent, just enough, and all her furniture is in there. She's got a dog with her, so that works out very well. There's a movie every night. There are crafts activities, all kinds of activities, but Mother's problem is that she doesn't participate in them, but that's not their fault, that's just her state of mind.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing feedback on your mother’s experience. I am glad you are enjoying the staff and activities and wanted to make sure you aware that we also offer memory care at our community should that be a consideration for your family. My mother is a resident of Atria Larson Place in the Memory Care Unit. I have been impressed with the care and love all of the staff give to my mother. The staff take the time to get to know the residents and their families. The staff know what activities my mother enjoys and how to help her when she is feeling distressed. I appreciate all the little touches the staff do to help the residents feel at home-like having familiar activities, playing favorite music, or bringing in entertainment. They understand how to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Visiting a loved one in a care facility, having to put a family member in a facility, is not easy, but the staff at Atria Larsen make families feel welcome and ease our discomfort. Atria Larson has become my mother's home in every sense of the word, and I feel good about visiting my mother in her home. I am grateful every day for the wonderful staff at Atria Larson.

My Mom has been at Atria for 3 years. I cannot say enough about the great care she has been given. My Mom was released from the hospital and we were told she should go to a convalescent home. She had been in her home up to this point but there were numerous trips to the hospital due to her not eating and taking her medications when and if she remembered. She would not hear of any help at all. Her hospitalization was scary since she was uncooperative. We were not sure anyone would take her but she was evaluated and accepted into the Life Guidance at Atria. The staff made her feel comfortable from the minute she arrived. When she comes to one of our family member's home for a day it is quite evident she looks forward to returning to what has become her home. The Staff members who take care of her needs know her well. She laughs with them and sometimes it seems they share their happy interactions. I was quite surprised at how good the food is, since I have been there during numerous meals. My Mom, who herself was a great cook, has said the food is good. I am pleased to say that I have seen their chair exercising. When the weather is good the group goes out for a ride or ice cream, etc. I have walked in on their singing group on Tues. evening. The place is always clean. Walls are painted when needed and rugs are replaced. My Mom is well cared for and I feel her life has been extended. Thank you to the Director and all the wonderful ladies who take care of her.

My Mom has been a resident at Atria Larson Place for the past nine months. Although dementia is an awful disease, the love and care that my Mom has been given makes me feel at peace with the tough decision we had to make by initially placing her in a facility that was not her home. Over the past nine months, Atria became her home. She is surrounded by staff that genuinely love and care for her as if she were their mother. The Life Guidance Director goes above and beyond to make sure we are informed on all issues. Not only does she care for my Mom, but she worries about the families of the residents as well. The CNA's are well-trained with the dementia disease and the residents are shown respect, love, and tenderness. if my Mom cannot live home, there is no other place I would rather see her live. We know firsthand that not all facilities are at the Atria Larson Place standards, given the fact that we removed my Mom from a precious home for neglect.

My dad used to stay at Atria Larson Place. We chose them at the time because they said they could handle and take care of him. However, he wasn't even there a week and they threw him out. I had to pay $3,600 in community fees and they wouldn't give any of it back. I wouldn't recommend that place to anybody. Although the living environment was okay, their staff was terrible. They were like the Gestapo. My dad was in the Alzheimer's wing and their food was not very good. I thought they were just left-overs from the other side. They had activities like exercise that some of the people participated in, but most of them did not. They have to learn to work with the patients better.

Provider Response

Please accept our apologies for your negative experience with our community. Each new resident receives a functional needs assessment from a licensed nurse at move-in and periodically thereafter. These assessments help us tailor care to individual needs. A health and wellness assessment fee is charged at that time. If the resident’s needs change at any time, be that one week or one year after moving in, the family is consulted so that they may consider their options. Although I do not know at what time your father stayed with us, I can assure you that our memory care program is constantly evaluated to ensure that we are providing the very best care and services, including activities and culinary options. We would like to update you on any changes our community may have undergone since your father was a resident. Please contact us at customerservice@atriaseniorliving.com and include the Atria community name in your subject line.

Atria Larson was a little bit too run down. I was not impressed with their Dementia Unit. The staff weren't that very friendly. There were a lot of things that needed some touchups and repair, but the facility was okay.

Provider Response

Thank you for your feedback on our community and I am sorry to hear that you found our Life Guidance memory care staff to be anything less than welcoming. We will certainly look into this further, and we are also re-evaluating the appearance of our community to make sure that we make the very best first impression every time. If you would like to provide additional details on your visit, please contact us at customerservice@atriaseniorliving.com. And we would love for you to visit us again soon.
