My father has been a resident at Maplewood of Darien for 5 months. We have been very pleased with his care. His room, which is a studio, is very generously sized , the handicapped bathroom is large and the kitchenette is perfect for him. The staff is very attentive. When I am there even for the shortest visit, invariably a staff member will knock on his door to check on him. They have a broad range of activities. My father's favorites involve the outings such as scenic drives, concerts, plays and luncheons. He enjoys having lunch with a good friend he has made at the facility. Maplewood also allows me to coordinate his care with the V.A. where he receives his medications. The managing and administrative staff is very responsive and are always working to develop programs that the residents enjoy. I would highly recommend this facility.

My brother lived for several months at the Maplewood in Darien for respite care following a heart operation. Moving in, the Maplewood team was very helpful getting things all set up for him in his 1 bedroom apartment. His room was spacious and clean, and it matched the rest of this first rate facility. The dining area, common areas and outdoor patio and yard are especially nice. The Maplewood staff were very attentive to his needs, including medications management. We also used an outside provider for companion aide support. This worked very smoothly. I would definitely recommend this facility to others.

Maplewood at Darien is probably the most beautiful of all of the places that I went to. It's gorgeous. I think that they were recently renovated. It is bright and cheerful. The studio apartment was lovely and seemed to have everything that I would need. They have a lot of activities, so they have a lot of activity rooms. They have private dining rooms if you want to have your family come in and have dinner with you. You can book one of the private dining rooms for like a birthday celebration or something. I thought that was a nice touch. I probably met more people there than I did at any of the other places. Some of them I absolutely did not like. The woman who's in charge of the activities just left me cold. She was very unfriendly; I don't know why. I was not impressed with her. Their physical therapy person is supposed to be topnotch. She's got a very good reputation, and she was very friendly and asked me questions about my surgery and how she could help me, so I was impressed with that. I never met the nurses. I saw them sitting at their desks sort of doing nothing. Not one of them got up to ask me why I was going to be coming there, so that did not impress me at all. The sales manager was very scattered. You'd ask her a question and she'd be off on a different topic. Every question I asked her she would say, "Oh, we'll work with you on that. Oh, don't worry about it, we'll work with you." Either tell me what the pricing is or tell me what can I expect from the staff, but I wasn't getting answers from her. She's a very nice woman, funny, and has a great sense of humor, but I'm not looking for a best friend, I'm looking for someone to provide me with some answers. I was not impressed with her to be honest, but they sent me home with a big chocolate cake. For that alone, I should choose them, but I didn't. The chocolate cake was out of this world. The parking is terrible. You park in a garage underneath the building, and the spaces were limited. I got the last parking space when I pulled in, and it was located next to a snow removal truck with a big blade. I was scared. When I opened the car door, I thought this thing is gonna rip the car door off, but I survived. Parking was terrible and that's kind of an important thing. If you're gonna have guests come and visit you, friends and family are going to show up, where are they gonna put their cars? That would be a problem down the road, I think.

My mother has been living at Maplewood at Darien for the past 18 months, and as we have all endured hardships since the pandemic, I must say that Maplewood has handled this delicate situation with the utmost care and integrity. The staff is professional, and the facilities are very clean.

Maplewood at Darien was the nicest facility that we looked at. They had very good staff, and it's one worth definitely considering. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, and had good follow-up. The facilities were brand new, the rooms were very nice, it's upmarket, and a 4-star hotel quality. The dining area was very nice, the food we took home was delicious, they said it was made there, so they did a nice job.

The Team at Maplewood Darien have been amazing since we transitioned my Mother there 3 months ago. You really get a feeling of community from the very beginning and the staff are 100% involved with my Mother's day to day routine. Everyone on staff knows my Mom and they all know me as well! Carrie H. and Susanne B. did an amazing job of helping us get my Mother moved and settled in quickly and they were there every day to reassure her about the move. I no longer worry about her every minute of the day as I know the staff makes sure she is getting to all of her meals and activities and not sitting alone in her apartment all day.

I took a little tour of Maplewood at Darien. It seemed to be very nice. Everything was first-class. It's a new place so everything is clean and up-to-date. I don't know about their medical facility, but the amenities are probably good.

Maplewood at Darien is my first choice and it is fabulous. The community is relatively new and that always makes it nice. It's very clean, neat, inviting, and the person who I spoke to was great and extremely helpful. They have studios and 1-bedroom units, and they also have 1-bedroom unit that's actually two units which can be turned into one. They also have a separate athletic area with equipment like a treadmill and weights for working out. The grounds were beautiful, and they have a very nice area at the back with benches. It's beautiful, just like being in a park. The location was also great for me.

Maplewood at Darien is small and you feel comfortable. There were residents in their wheelchair, walking around, in their walkers, sitting in the lounge, and everybody seemed happy. The staff was happier than those in the big facilities. They smile at you and ask you if you need something. They have a movie room, library, and places where people do projects like arts to keep them occupied with guidance. We saw the menu and we got to talk to the chef who uses organic food.

First impressions can be deceiving. My original visits really left the impression that the level of care and services would be better than they turned out to be once my relative moved in. Food is bland and frequently cold. If you're considering Maplewood for someone who still has their faculties, be prepared for complaints about how boring it is because there are not a lot of activities and the few provided are not for intelligent adults. The staff is polite, but not attentive. If your loved can't or won't speak up for themselves, you had better plan on visiting frequently or hiring supplemental, private care. A cell phone isn't really an option since cell service in the entire building is almost non-existent (intentional?) Finally, good luck reaching anyone in management at the facility. Executive Director is almost never there or available. Lots of "conference calls" apparently. Bottom line - this is a clean, nice looking place to dump an elderly person but not your best choice if you're hoping to make your loved one's final years enriching.

Maplewood at Darien is a good place. It's well maintained and very inviting. It felt a very hospitable place to live for the elderly. They just don’t have outdoor grounds for the residents to be able to get outside. The staff was very informative and helpful.

Maplewood was a new facility, very nice, and very clean. The staff was very helpful, and the residents showed us the rooms, which were very nice. They had full service on-site, a hairdresser, a pub, and transportation to local stores and stuff.
