Brookdale Fort Collins has assisted living and Crossings. My husband is in Crossings, which is not as bad as memory care. It is a medium, that's why I like it. However, I expected it to be a little bit more hands on than what he's getting and I didn't expect him not being able to have his razor or fingernail clippers. They have to be locked away because another patient may walk into the room and use them or do something with them, which is a little disappointing. They charge you $2,000 upfront just to be able to go in there. He's in a fairly nice studio. The food is awful and cooked in one of the other facilities. You can hardly even tell what it is half the time, but he's satisfied with it at this point. The girl that entertains them is quite good and is a sweetheart. Another girl named Katy is wonderful and cheerful, and the head nurse is really nice and hands-on. The patio is quite small. It has a little gazebo that will fit about 15 to 20 people. They showed me the patio in the assisted living, which was bigger. Also, the price is too much for what he gets.

We toured Brookdale Fort Collins Memory Care. Both my wife and I like the facility. The residents that we saw there didn't seem to be very engaged. As we walked through the facility, my wife would even say, "Hi, how are you?" and most of the residents just kind of ignored us. They didn't seem to want to be engaged. The staff was very professional and very forthcoming with information. They did a good job. They have a number of outdoor spaces. They showed us the spa room, which was nice.

We toured Brookdale Fort Collins. We had concerns about the staff retention or staff turnover. The manager on duty hadn't been there very long, so couldn't answer some of our questions. She was very nice, but just didn't know the facility all that well because she didn't spend a whole lot of time there and seemed new at her position. The maintenance was fine. It looked a little less comfortable than some of the facilities we've seen. The problem is when we run out of assets, we have to move my mom to a Medicaid facility (which probably isn't an option there).

I liked Brookdale Fort Collins, but we weren't too happy with the nurse who did the assessment. She didn't like the medicine that the doctor in Wyoming had my sister on, and she wanted her to be on a different medicine. The young man who was the marketing person was very nice. The facility would be good because my sister is musical, and they did music. It seemed like there were some activities, but the difficulty came with the assessment and that just spoiled everything. The room was OK, but they need to improve on their assessment.

They have a wonderful plan at Brookdale Fort Collins. They intergrate people rather than dump them in where they don’t know anything. They’re very hands-on, very caring, and keep them involved. The other place where my mom was would do nothing, and she wouldn’t go to any activities. At this place, my mom is participating.

Brookdale had locks on the outer doors and had the same type of look as the other Brookdale that I visited, but it had special measures in place to keep people safe and from wandering off. They had a really nice spa room, a community area, and a music room/library room type of thing. They had a large media monitor where they could play movies. It was kind of fancy. The staff member that gave me the tour was the same person that gave me the tour of the assisted side. The dining area looked nice, and the menu was decent.

I was able to visit Clare Bridge of Forth with my wife, and it was also comfortable. Their marketing person was very nice. I got a tour, and everything looked very clean. They also have a very good security as far as being controlled. They were also in the process of doing some new paint.

Clare Bridge of Fort Collins was a great facility, but my dad was misplaced there. They were not capable of handling him as far as how much he has progressed in Alzheimer's and dementia. And with his combativeness, they were not equipped to handle him there. It was a misdiagnosis, and he was just placed there. It was a great facility, but it just wasn't for my dad. Clare Bridge was more structured, but they did feed him obviously, and the portions were a bit smaller. They had more in-patients. They had a lot more people, so the portions were a bit smaller, but it was OK. The room was big enough for him, and it was decent. They probably need to improve on the care for their patients and communication.

The care has been good. Everybody has been very cheerful and helpful. Clare Bridge of Fort Collins is pretty much what we had hoped for. My wife has a nice bright room. The bed is good and she has some of her own furniture there. I've eaten there myself once and food was sort of 'so-so', but my wife says the food is okay so that's the important part.
