I visited this facility

The two bedroom floor plans at Brookdale Vista Grande were great. They were really nice. It was just kind of close to a really busy street. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. The common spaces were nice. Not exceedingly so. It is near restaurants. The cleanliness was very good.

Brookdale Vista Grande was very nice, but it was dated. The staff seemed to be very informative. I didn't talk very much with the residents there, but I spoke with a couple of them and they seemed to be happy. It was a decent facility. I wasn't as impressed with the aids that they had set up inside the rooms as far as the lips and that type of thing. They had basic amenities that pretty much all the facilities offered. They worked with the hospice people. The general manager seemed to be informed. He was very vested in his facility. It just wasn't the environment that would enhance my folks way of living.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Brookdale Vista Grande. The staff is very caring and nice. They were extremely helpful along the entire journey. They provided relevant information and guided us. They were helpful with my mom during the transition, and they understood the drastic change that it was for her. Those were all wonderful things. What I don't like is that I think they are having some staffing issues. From a cleanliness standpoint, I've noticed some gaps over just the last couple of weeks. I think they're just struggling with staffing. They have a lot of different activities for them. They have exercise programs. They have some learning activities. They have a person come in and read out loud to the group, play games, and things like that. She has a studio apartment. She has a private bathroom. She has a large window that gets tons of sunlight for her plants, which is important to her. There is a small kitchenette area, where you can put a dining table. There is a small refrigerator, a sink, and plenty of cabinets. Everything is wheelchair accessible, which is wonderful. She is in a walker, so there's definitely plenty of room for her to get around and maneuver within the room. The food is good, and they make tons of fresh desserts. She is a big dessert junkie. They make a lot of fresh desserts onsite, like pies and cakes, which makes her very happy. The meals, overall, are great. They have been good about any nutritional needs that she has. I noticed a decline in the physical condition of the facility though.

My brother is in Brookdale Vista Grande. It's been good, he's happy and I'm very happy with the move. He's happy with the food. He's a talker, so he gets along well with the cook and they might slip him an extra piece of chicken. They've got bingo three times a week, and he's just a pretty happy guy. He's somewhat immobile where he is, but I live not far, so I can go get him and take him up to whatever he wants to do. I haven't met anybody up there at all. My daughter has been handling everything. It's a lot of money. It's way over what he usually spends, of course because he's getting services, but they're all pretty comparable. We priced out several places. I think they were in quarantine for a while because of Covid.

I've been to Brookdale Vista Grande a couple of times visiting my mother-in-law. It seems well run. I don't have any complaints and my wife doesn't either. They're taking good care of her. They do her laundry, they come in and clean her room, and she goes downstairs to the cafeteria and eats every meal. They have three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff has been real friendly. We haven't had any problems. They keep the facility clean. I haven't seen anything that needed attention.

I really liked Brookdale Vista Grande. The staff was very friendly, and I liked the atmosphere and room. Our experience was great and we were welcomed at the front desk. The lady took us on a really nice tour. It was the place that we were looking for. The apartments were big enough to put stuff in, and it was just the right size. They had a Bible study, bingo, and they had the outdoors where they can sit and garden. They had plenty of activities and things they could do. The people who lived there were nice and said good things about the place. They offered three meals a day. The place looked nice and clean.

This community is beautiful. A great back patio area with lots of sunshine on a good day. The nurses are in the building every weekend, evidently they work 7 days a week. Housekeeping is also here every weekend. I find this rare. You can always find a manager on the weekends. The caregivers are so sweet and try so hard. I am happy with this community. Everyone is always smiling and it feels like a family. Many times I have come to visit and music is playing to happy dancing residents.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was a resident at Brookdale for about 4 months before her sudden passing. The facility is nice and clean, and her apartment was nice. The staff is friendly, but highly incompetent. She hated Brookdale and I deeply regret that she had to spend the last months of her life there. Residents do Not in any way receive the care that they are promised and are paying for. Not nearly enough staff to care for the residents in a timely manner. The night staff was literally non-existant. She would wait way too long for anyone to respond to her call button, and then they would leave, promising to return but rarely did. The trash was always overflowing, I would have to take it out when I was there. The food was terrible. My mother was not a picky eater at all, however, she never had one good thing to say about the meals and she would beg for me to bring her outside food. Toward the end of her life, she was taking meals in her room. They would come take her order, and then not bring the meal for over an hour at which time it was cold or she would be told they were ‘out’ of what she had ordered, so more often than not, she would get a cold sandwich. On a Thursday afternoon, I picked up my Mom and signed her out for a doctor visit. The visit took a bad turn, and so I brought my mother home to my house as she did not want to be alone. Five days went by before I finally got a phone call inquiring about where my mother was and what was going on. Five days. At this point, I informed Brookdale that my mother would not be returning. I went there to give a 30 day notice and was asked to pay up front for the current month and was told that when we got her things moved out, we would get a portion of the month back. She passed away a few days later, and yet we busted our tails getting her things moved out by the 20th of the month. Needless to say, we never received the refund and finally after much run-around, were told that we shouldn't have been promised that. In addition, my mother's wedding rings disappeared from her room during the days she was at my house. In the 3 months since her passing, I have continued to receive bills every month with $250 late fees added to them. I have called numerous times and visited in person to rectify this and have been repeatedly told "not to worry, it is fixed now", but they keep coming...got another just yesterday. My mother has been dead for 4 months and yet they can't seem to figure out that she no longer lives there. Do not, I repeat, do Not place your loved one in this facility. My plan was to move my mother elsewhere as soon as I could, regrettably I did not get the chance to do so.

Brookdale Vista Grande was a very beautiful place with beautiful rooms. It is updated and everything is brand new and very nice. The staff was very helpful, caring, and nice. It was a smaller community, so you have that more intimate feel. The residents and the management were pretty close. The dining area is gorgeous.

The only positive things I can say about Brookdale Vista Grande are that my loved one is no longer there, and thankfully, she is still alive! At Brookdale, the residents do not receive the care they have paid for and are promised. Usually only two caregivers are in the entire building at any one time, and with the high turnover rate, they are not familiar with the residents or the tasks they are to complete. Brookdale's one nurse is a 40 hour/week position and, instead of hiring another nurse, management expects the one person to work 80+ hours. The result is an overwhelmed and exhausted nurse without resources or time to care for residents. In addition to inadequate staffing, my main grievances regarding Brookdale include: mishandling of medication, failing to fill oxygen tanks and leaving my loved one without oxygen for long periods of time, failing to serve kosher meals after repeated requests, covering up instead of changing soiled bed sheets, not responding when the call button is pressed, and retaliating when we requested assistance. If not for family, my loved one would have received very little, if any, care at Brookdale. The silver lining is that the management at Brookdale Vista Grande harassed us into moving our loved one, who is now in a far superior care facility.

If you want revenge on your loved one, this place is for you! Staff turnover every couple months and no care. Often, only two care givers in the entire building. If I hadn't been involved with my loved one, she would have been dead. Enough said. There are many places in colorado springs area with much better care in the same price range. Stay away! Run!!!

My professor stayed in Brookdale Vista Grande. The facility was beautifully appointed; they spent over $600,000 making it gorgeous. They didn’t clean their bathrooms. I’ve walked in, and his bed was a swimming pool; it was so full of urine. They had fecal matter all over his beautiful leather couch chairs. They were so undermanned; at one time, they had one resident assistant for 43 people to put them down for bed. The staff is a very transitory staff; they’re here today and gone tomorrow. They need to have a consistent trained staff to attend to the needs of their residents as they promised in a contract. They wasted $600,000 for eye candy, and they couldn’t take care of him. They had a beautiful whirlpool. He would have very much benefited from the whirlpool, but no one ever told me. The food was guaranteed 100% horrible. I brought most of his food in because it was so horrible.

Brookdale Vista Grande was very clean. It was very maintained both inside and out. The grounds were very pretty. The staff was excellent. They were very friendly and very knowledgeable. They even offered to get information for me and forward it, which they did. Also they explained that they have nurses on-call there.

I went to Brookdale Vista Grande, and my visit was great. Everybody was very courteous and very knowledgeable. The appearance and the presentation were great. It was very clean. They offered bingo and games, and they had church on Sundays. We do like the facility, but my mother needs more care than they can offer.

Brookdale Vista Grande was very nice. It was clean and well-kept. It was a one-bedroom apartment or a studio, which was a nice size and able for at least a queen sized bed in and maybe a sofa. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They had exercise, a physical therapy room, and actually I saw a salon. It didn't feel like a nursing or anything, and it felt like they cared about the people who were there and respected them. It was quite expensive, and you had to have money to get in there.

The remodeling is beautiful! This place went through a major overhaul. They have a newer director, Tony, and he is such a caring and compassionate person. This place will fill up again, soon. Love it!

My Mother stayed at the Wynwood for 6 months. The staff is tremendously caring and very patient! The facility is in the process of remodeling, but is doing it in phases to minimize the impact on residents. I highly recommend Wynwood to anyone looking for a "home" atmosphere for their loved one that needs assisted living!

Wynwood was very nice. We were incredibly impressed with the facility as well as the staff. It was more spacious and there were more decorations that were very pleasing to the eye. Everybody just seem so cheerful, happy, and helpful. They have a really nice exercise area. It impressed us because it was more of a retirement living which would appeal to us. Everything was just great.

Alterra Wynwood is a lovely facility with warm-hearted and knowledgeable staff and caregivers. I absolutely love this facility's kindness and capability to give great care to all living within its doors - the elderly, the disabled and the newly retired. The rooms are large and easy to get around in, the food is excellent with a menu with lots of choices and the activities are fun for all the residents (and a great way to get to know one another). There is a sidewalk that encircles the building which many residents utilize for their daily walks (or taking their pets for walks). The view of the mountains from the second and third floors is lovely, especially at sunset and sunrise. And if a resident needs help with toileting, cleaning or taking medicines, the loving staff are experts in how to assist with these needs. This is my favorite assisted living facility in Colorado Springs.
