My mother lived in this Brookdale for almost 3 years. I can't stress enough how wonderful the staff is. My mom loved living there, and she especially loved the attention and kindness from all the lovely ladies that work there. Their compassion in caring for the elderly was impressive, and made her last years happy and contented. The rooms are a bit larger than other facilities that I toured, and the outside patio was a big plus. She went out every day during warm weather. Over all, two thumbs up to Brookdale Uptown Whittier!

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was the first one we visited. The tour was good, and they were friendly. The staff who gave me the tour was friendly and informative. The rooms were clean and nice. We tried the food, it was good, we enjoyed it. The dining area was spacious and everyone in the dining room seems to be enjoying their meals. They had staff there that was friendly and helpful. They had gardens that were in the center of the building, and they were very refreshing.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was more reasonable in pricing. It feels like it's a little bit older. The parking is a little tougher, but it was a very nice place. I liked it. They had larger rooms, which I liked. It was a good place, and that area of Whittier is very nice. And it's a little more economically attractive. They had a lot of activities, so I was very impressed with them. I even asked about outdoor field trips. So, they're not just activities inside the facility, but they could go and do stuff, too. For the food, people were eating when I went in, and it looked really good. And that 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. when it is kind of open is a big deal.

We toured Brookdale Uptown Whittier. They had friendly residents, the people were very welcoming, the place is clean, and they had very nice amenities. They have a beauty parlor, a game room, and lots of activities. We had a meal there.

I went to Brookdale Uptown Whittier. They are at the top of my loved ones' list. I sent them information and the details about them all, and this is the one they're interested in. The staff was helpful. He showed me the different types of rooms. They don't have studio apartments, so he showed me a model apartment. He explained that it used to be a hotel. He showed me the different rooms like the activity rooms, and I was very impressed. They had a veterans hall, too. They have a bus, and that was a big draw also. The food looked pretty good. The kitchenette had a fridge, two burners, and cupboards, which was nice. There were lots of grab bars. They have weekly housekeeping and a weekly bed and bath laundry. They have cable and Wi-Fi. It was a draw that they pay for Wi-Fi. I also love the location. It's right there at Uptown Whittier, which I love. The people I saw there seemed happy, and that means a lot to me. One time I went there and there was someone that was bringing people back in one at a time from the bus (from an outing), and he was very pleasant. He was just very nice.

My father moved to Brookdale Uptown Whittier. It's a really good area, they take really good care of everybody. I would say that they need a little bit more diversity with the hiring. They seem to only hire one type of staff. They don't have anybody to help with other people who aren't part of that specific type. The room he has is large. The food wasn't up to par with what I thought it would be. They have a small library with just a few books, the gym is fairly small and they don't offer a salon of any kind, so that's something we have to go outside for.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was very nice and very pleasant. I think it would be a place that my sister would like if she were able to participate in all the amenities. They had a wonderful dining room. The food looked wonderful. I saw the studio and a little suite where two people share one bath and a kitchenette. That was very nice too because there were some people that didn't need as much space. The studio was beautiful. When I went there, people were in the dining room. I saw they had their Christmas decorations. I saw one resident had her dog. They allow pets. It was really nice. I saw the library and the dining room. They have a nice courtyard, and the garden area is very pretty. The people I talked with were wonderful. I saw the menu, and they had a display of what their choices were for meals. They have the usual type of programs in assisted living. They have trips and things that go on during the day. They have live entertainment once a week.

My dad has been in Brookdale Uptown Whittier for two weeks now and everybody is extremely friendly. The facility is welcoming and the apartment has a great floor plan with a nice balcony. He hasn't gotten into any activities yet because right now, he's trying to get adjusted and meet some people that kind of have common interests with him. He said that some of the meals are better than others. He seems to enjoy the soup though and they pretty much can accommodate whatever he needs. He likes small portions versus big portions. So, he just tells them and they do it for him. The staff is very open, warm, and very caring too, and compared to all the others that we looked at, I think they offer a more reasonable price.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was nice, but I wasn't really into the facilities. It was more about the budget that I could afford at that time. That was the main concern. The staff was very nice and very good. The facility was really clean. They have a studio type and one-bedrooms. I was looking at the one-bedroom, and it was really nice and clean. It's just like a hotel. I really liked it. They have a library, a place to exercise, a place for grooming, a restaurant, and scheduled activities every day.

My sister moved into Brookdale Uptown Whittier, and they are wonderful. I love the staff, and they have done well. They were very attentive, and they really pay attention to the people. I went in there to check it out before my sister moved in. They were very nice and very informative. It's a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette, and it was perfect for her. I don't think they have many activities yet because of COVID, but I think they are starting to have them again. They have started to allow friends and family to visit. It looks like they have begun serving meals in the main dining area. Everything seems to be perfect. They don't have a coffee shop because there is one within walking distance. They do offer coffee in the mornings. They have a library, and they have a place where they can do puzzles; they have quite a few things. They are informative, and they let me know if something is going on with her. The food was great. I've seen the menu, and it is put together well.

My uncle stayed here for 3 years until he needed more care. At first, I thought it was a little dark. The rooms are basic, but sufficient. However, especially for the price, it was great. They always had activities, and the staff was always 100% cheerful, professional, courteous, and kind. All the residents were kind. The neighborhood, and the surrounding shops are wonderful. Whittier is a very senior friendly city. I looked forward to visiting him because of the cheerful spirit and the activities. They treated all residents with dignity and respect. I never heard any gossiping. We had so much fun in Downtown Whittier and at the surrounding restaurants. It kept my uncle “young”. He would walk around the area a lot, and became more active and independent. I am very picky, but, my uncle and I miss this place so much.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was very lovely, and the gentleman I talked to was very lovely also, he couldn't have been nicer. The place is very posh, it used to be the William Penn Hotel, so it's very elegant. It was just way beyond my friend's financial means. The staff member who accommodated me was terrific. Their facilities were lovely. I would have liked for my friend to go there, but she couldn't afford it.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier is a good community and the location is very good. The staff has been fine, we don't have any complaints about the staff. Everything about the place, including the food, is fine. Their prices are also better than others.

Mom is in Brookdale Uptown. The room is in good condition and pretty spacious for a 1-bedroom. I know they have plenty of activities all week long, like they take them shopping.

Brookdale Uptown was very nice, and we were considering them. My mother likes it as we were going to have both of my parents there together, but my father didn’t. He felt that there wasn’t enough light. It’s actually a renovated hotel. Thomas was very helpful, attentive, and answered my calls promptly, and he was willing to work with us with our financial situation if we needed that. We went to utilize the facility a number of times with both my parents, but my father kept on squashing the deal.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier didn't feel homey enough for my mother. We didn't meet with the staff, but we did meet with the director who gave us a tour. They were very helpful and very nice. The place was very clean. We saw a few of the residents sitting in the front of the entrance lwatching TV. They seemed to be content and OK.

I found Brookdale Uptown Whittier. The staff was very friendly with my family, answered all of my questions, and went the extra mile to show me around and explain everything. They made me feel very comfortable. The place was gorgeous, classy, and clean. The meals were like they were made in a 5-star restaurant.

I visited Brookdale and the staff was helpful. I remember one room in particular that was more than adequate and had a nice view. The facility was maybe a little dark in some areas, but overall it seemed in good condition. I remember a recreation area at the front of the building, it was light and had big windows, but it wasn’t setup for an activity that day.

Brookdale has an apartment which is really nice. It has its own kitchen, balcony, bathroom, and, bedroom. The people have been very good and caring. The food is okay, average, and they seem to have at least a couple of activities each day to do. The amenities are good. There’s a front person that looks at the people coming through the door.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier (formerly The Chateau at Whittier) was too expensive for my friend, and the age group of the people that live there was older. We didn't see the apartments, but the place looked nice. It looked like a hotel. The person in charge explained about the apartments. They had studios and one-bedroom apartments, which were OK. It's not luxurious, but it's nice. They do bingo, outings, arts and crafts, and music. Everything looked nice, clean, and in order. If I were to live in a place like that, I would like that one.

Everything is good except for one thing. The dining room help is pretty bad, and I have filed an official complaint about that. They need to retrain their staff. It seems the people go to the dining room and sit down, and the girls kind of ignore them. So I know my mother got upset several times, just got up, and then wanted to stop eating. Aside from that, I am very satisfied with all the staff over there. They have quite a bit of activities, including the Sunday outings. They can go to different places every Sunday; for instance, last Sunday they went to see the Watch Towers, and a week before that, they went to the beach. Somehow they have three or four outings that my mother seems to be enjoying. Every Tuesday, they take them to Wal-mart if they want to go, and every Monday they can request to go to different shopping places. They have Bingo, and a lot of activities. Her room is adequate. She's got her own living room, small kitchen, bathroom, and then bedroom with walk-in closets, so it is quite satisfactory. It's got a patio that overlooks the sea actually, so she has a view.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier is a great place. The people are caring, the place is clean, and the apartments are really nice. It has a great location. They have bingo, pool, cards, and exercise programs. They also have a shuttle bus that takes residents to different stores, activities, and doctor's appointments. The food is good. There is nothing there that my dad did not like. The dining area is very nice. It is like a restaurant. The bedroom is clean. It has a walk-in closet, a little kitchen, and a living area.

I moved to Brookdale Uptown last March. They have independent options and nurses. The room is good, they have a balcony and a kitchen, and it’s big enough. The people are nice. We have exercise classes.

Their parking was an issue at Brookdale Uptown Whittier as we didn’t find a parking lot, but there was street parking. They were close to shopping and all of the stuff to do outside of the facility, but we weren't interested in that. Their dining rooms were set up differently, and they didn’t seem to have as many people that required assistance. Their rooms are nice and big, and the one room that they did show us has a small kitchenette with a refrigerator. The gentleman that was in charge was very polite and gave us information.

I love Brookdale Uptown Whittier; that's why my mother is there. The building and the environment are clean. Everything and everybody there are great. The price is also great. The gentleman there is very instrumental in helping me in the beginning up to the point when I make the decision. Now, my mom has been there for two weeks.

Brookdale Uptown Whittier was a nice facility, but my mother wanted her own room, and the one they had available was too expensive. If I had a lot more money, I would settle here. Everybody was helpful.

Emeritus was very satisfactory and clean, and the staff was very friendly -- especially the manager that spoke with us and gave us the tour and lunch. They don’t have a set time for clients to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner so that was hugely important for my friend. The cleanliness and food services were very good. The food was very decent, and they also have a salad bar for lunch and a breakfast in the morning. The rooms that we were shown were a one bedroom and a studio. Each of the rooms has a sliding door with a balcony, and that was a very desirable feature. The other thing is that all the rooms had a kitchenette which was very important to my friend. The rooms for the price were a very good value.

My mom is in Emeritus at Chateau Whittier. We choose it because of the price and the value for the price and everything else. The facility's price is pretty decent compared to many other ones. It is not one particular thing that drives me to it. It is the entire package. However, I will possibly not recommend it because of the changes that have taken place since she has actually been there and now that Brookdale owns it. She moved in, then all of a sudden Brookdale is in the process of taking it over, and then they have actually formalized the change in everything else. It appears like a number of things have actually change, like the quality of the food has drop significantly. It is a problem everybody there is complaining about. However, we chose it because for the price she has a one-bedroom, while in others she will only have a studio. I feel like the number of people not in wheelchair seems to be on a higher percentage than the people who are in wheelchairs there. There aren't just a lot of people just hanging around the front doors and things like that. It is an easier transition for her because of it. I think it is in a really nice neighborhood as far as having a nice tranquil location and everything else.

Emeritus was a really nice place but kind of expensive. It was clean and it seemed like Beverly Hills. It looked so neat and it did have everything. There was even a place where they wash your clothes right there in the facility. It was self-sufficient and that's what I like. It was a little more expensive than the other facility but it was self-sufficient. The staff was also very helpful.

Merrill Gardens at Chateau Whittier was a beautiful place. The people were friendly. It was just absolutely wonderful, but we couldn't afford that. The gentleman took us on a tour and the residents all knew him well and greeted him friendly. They were all smiles. They were all up and about, even though there were a couple of them in wheelchairs. Everybody just looked so happy. The staff was friendly with the residents. They were engaging them all the time. They showed us all the different size apartments that were there. Each bedroom had a nice bathroom. It looked like you were stepping into somebody's own home. They would allow the residents to make it as personable as possible. There was nothing junky, nothing dirty, and nothing smelly. The dining room was like a restaurant. Overall, this facility was very nice, but it was very far away from where I live. That was one bad thing. Also, the cost is a little bit prohibitive for our small budget. Nevertheless, I absolutely recommend this place. If the need came, I would go there myself.

I think Merrill Gardens is a nice facility. While there, I witnessed the warm reception of the caregivers. The whole facility looks well taken care off. The staff members are coperative ad wilming to answer all the questions asked. The even have a special lunch with each tour visit. In general, I would rank this facility 4 out of five stars.
