My parents lived at Brookside from 2008 to 2010 and were very happy there. The one bedrooms are very large and open out onto a patio. The studios with an alcove are spacious enough and ours opened out onto a balcony that overlooked the creek. The price is very reasonable and the food very good. My parents lived in another place for two times the amount, which looked pretty and was spacious, but the food was not good and the rooms were actually much smaller. They were happy at Brookside and left to come live with me so that I could take care of them until they each passed. Many homes have a high staff turn over, and at Brookside the primary staff has been there for many years, which provides stability. The entertainment provided was excellent and there were several activities in which the residents could partake. They also had a cocktail hour every evening which was very well attended. The facility is huge, sixty rooms or more. The food is mostly cheap hamburger or beans mostly. Jello often for dessert. The lobby gives a good impression but the rent is outrageous. $2200 a month with discounts and $6000 a month without. This is unfurnished. You have to provide your own furniture. I am a present resident. Many residents are very elderly. I am 83 with no dementia or poor health.

Brookside Retirement Residence was great. They took me on a tour and showed me everything. Then the guy said, 'Oh I'm sorry, I forgot to ask you, what is your income?' So I told him, and he goes, 'I'm sorry sir, we can't accept you.' It was a very neat and clean place, and I was really impressed with it. I have no remorse or whatsoever on how they asked me. They treated me very well actually. They gave me a cup of coffee and asked if I wanted a donut. I was really impressed. They got a beautiful front yard. It's kinda offset from the street, so it's almost like being isolated around because all the homes are distance-wise from it. There's a place to walk around. It was very impressive. It was very well kept. I was disappointed that I wouldn't qualify for it. I wasn't there long enough to really see the internal workings of it, but from what I saw, I was very well satisfied with it.

The people at Brookside Retirement Residence offered me a wheelchair-accessible bedroom. It's totally flat and has lower sinks and lower cabinets. I am very comfortable here. I am very happy that they have wonderful food, a full course meal once a day, and a light breakfast. They even serve some of their meals with wine as an option. It is all air-conditioned, especially in the last 2 months when the temperature was so high. There are people who would change my sheets and wash them, vacuum the room and clean the bathroom, and they all provided wonderful help. They are very cheerful and efficient. I've been really pleased. We have music a couple of times last week on the grand piano, and fresh flowers on the tables. We have a beauty parlor and an exercise room that's free. They have open porches and they allow cigarette smoking on one of the porches outdoors. I thought the price was high when I first came to look at it, but when I came here to live and realized what I was getting, it was all worth it. They have a transportation to take us to doctors' appointments, to Walmart, and banks.

My mom just moved into Brookside Retirement Residence. So far, it's been good. She's only been there since last week. They have different sizes of rooms. I think they're a little bit small, but the price is appropriate for the size. They have an activities director. I haven't tried the food, but my mom says they're good. She's been happy with what they have. It's nice, clean, and they have people that come in every day and change their linens and pick up their trash. It's a bit of an older facility. It seems like some of the living areas are a bit small, but they can't do anything about that. That's the way the building was built. She's very satisfied with all the services that they've offered.
