I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Alexander Gardens is a beautiful place and my Mom and I were looking forward to her living there. We met with the Associate Executive Director and my Mother picked a room that was higher up with a patio. We were told that she would be able to (as an early riser) get up and walk down to the dining room with a caregiver and have coffee and read the paper. That might have happened once. Instead of letting her walk they used her transport chair to get her to the dining room because it was faster. They never let her use her walker even though my Mom's PT said she was very capable of using it with someone with her. After she had been there about a month we found out that the call system wasn’t working in her area after we complained because no one answered the call. Her room was horribly hot during heat spells. Her clothes weren't always returned and she would get clothes that weren't hers. After breakfast they were all shuffled into the "living room" and the TV came on very loud. There were games that my Mom played and she loved the trips on the bicycle. She wasn't allowed to use her phone to call us as it disturbed the other residents. Maybe move her to the other side of the room? My Mom had a caregiver that was very rough and my Mom received injuries on her leg that required a wound specialist twice a week and that lasted a few months. When I complained about the caregiver to the Associate Executive Director she told me they would retrain her and she would go back to my Mom. I argued with her as my Mom was terrified of her caregiver. I had other residents complain to me about having soup and sandwiches on Sunday instead of a nice dinner. My Mom said the food was just ok. Such a beautiful place and all the residents lined up on couches or easy chairs. We were told they were going to resume the day trips but that didn't happen. Most of the regular staff was great. I feel I was told what they thought we wanted to hear. I regret that my Mom ever moved in there. Five months of her last years ruined. She couldn't function because of the lack of real social activity. After we got her home to my house she just became my Mom again and was so active.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

A family member shared disparaging email remarks from their leadership about me because I challenged out of cycle fee increases (that breached their admission agreement) and also because I challenged their standard of care by advocating for my loved one, as a son and Trustee/POA. Additionally, AG markets and is equipped for assisted living, but will keep residents beyond their care capacity in the interest of revenue. This is an ideal location for your loved one if you want them devoid of stimulii, alternating between sleeping and watching TV all day and if you have a high tolerance for unresponsive and unprofessional adminstrative staff. Amazingly, their hands on care staff are commendable, but overworked, and exhibit more professionalism than their management.

I visited this facility

We toured Alexander Gardens Assisted Living. We like the location. We like the people that work there. We like their facilities, and they just seem to have a good program. The staff was very nice, friendly, and informative. The building was very clean. They had gardens outside. They are very beautiful. It has a very friendly atmosphere. The rooms were fairly large compared to some of the other places I've seen.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is doing respite care at Alexander Gardens Assisted Living. He has been there for two and a half months now. He likes the homey atmosphere, and he likes the staff there. They're very kind. And the food is good. In terms of activities, he's not interested in group activities. He likes to just do one-on-one things, and he has lots of family visitors and friends visiting and that sort of thing. Alexander Gardens has lots of beautiful outdoor grounds that my husband can travel in his wheelchair on. They have lots of ramps and paths and very pretty grounds, and he can go and sit outside, which he likes to do. I think the value for money is fair.

Alexander Gardens is great. It's like a bed and breakfast. He stayed there for a few months after he broke his hip. The staff was wonderful and professional. The place was clean and affordable. It literally was like a bed and breakfast. They have music, and they have art class; they had a lot of activities for the people there. The food was superb. It was wonderful.

I visited this facility

Alexander Gardens is a nice place. It's smaller, a little bit more for people who are more independent. It's in a hilly location, but they have some beautiful gardens there. There are railings to hang on to all along the walkways. It was lovely, but it was a little more confined. My mom has pretty severe arthritis, so even though she would love the gardens there, I think it would be a little bit hard for her. They have a lot of musical programs and entertainment that comes in. My parents are both 90 years old.

Alexander Gardens was very nice. I felt comfortable with the tour guide and the staff. That was a much smaller place, so they had a smaller room, but it seemed like they had a regular activities program.

I visited this facility

Alexander Gardens was in a beautiful setting. It has gardens and little terraces all around, so it was very nice. They were only studios and we didn’t really consider that; that’s too small for the two of us. The staff handled everything very nicely, and the tour guide was very informative. It’s a beautiful facility; the whole thing was nice. The only thing is it’s too small for us. For a couple, I would say it’s a two-star.

My mother is at Alexander Gardens. It is a very small, beautiful place. My mother has her own private room. Most of the time, she likes the food, but sometimes she doesn’t. The facility is very nice and very clean.

I visited this facility

Alexander Gardens was very nice, and the people were very nice, but there were too many ramps going from building to building, and that would not work for my husband. It was neat and attractive, and the rooms were small. Another thing we found is that especially in this hall, it was 99.5% women, so that facility would never work. The lady in charge who was the sales agent was very pleasant, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. They were having music played, and there was a small group of ladies sitting there being entertained.

I visited this facility

Alexander Gardens was a small place, but it seemed very nice. The staff was really nice and friendly. The rooms were great. They all had a standard bathroom and the emergency button, everything you would want. The dining area was very nice. I looked at the menu, and it looked good. I would eat there!
