My dad is currently at Sunrise of San Mateo. When I toured, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. In terms of cleanliness, this place was 23 years old and looked brand new. It looked like it was built last week because that is how clean they keep it. I was just really impressed. They are taking care of that building very well. The staff who gave us the tour was friendly. They showed us where dad would be staying, gave us a walkthrough, and let us go into the room while they were getting it ready. It was just a good experience. I called once, and my dad was actually adjusting and watching videos. He was watching a movie with the people. It was pretty good that he got adjusted there. The residents were happy. Their interactions with the with the nurses were well, and everybody looked happy. They smiled and waved.

My mom has moved into Sunrise of San Mateo. The layout is nice. They're not big, which is good for us. A lot of places are big, but that would be hard for her to access and there'd be confusion. So the size is perfect for her. I believe that everyone who works there that I've come in contact with is there because they want to be and not because they need a paycheck. They're very professional and they are very caring, and that seems sort of cheesy and cliché-ish, but it's just a fact. My mom likes meals with friends, and there are movies in the evening that she enjoys. Each night they have a movie. She likes hanging out and watching others, too. My mom said the food has been good. Looking at the activities in general, there's something for everybody. They go out and walk (but that doesn't suit her because it's hard for her to walk). They play like a game every afternoon. It's very scheduled and everybody knows exactly what to expect. If we're looking as a whole, it's very expensive, but all of them are very expensive. And I feel like she's getting a good value.

We went to Sunrise of San Mateo yesterday. It was a nice facility, very clean, it looked nice, people were nice inside, so we got a good feeling about the place. They were efficient on the tour, they showed us the available rooms and the whole facility in general, so yeah, it was good. The staff was nice, really friendly, very knowledgeable, and very caring about the needs of my dad, so overall, she was very good. inside the rooms, there was a refrigerator. I think it was like a little sink, no stove or anything like that because they said that they didn't want anybody cooking in there because you might burn yourself or what have you. They had a private bathroom. They had an outside patio. I think there were a couple of them, but there was one big one, for sure.

I really liked Sunrise of San Mateo. It's convenient and very nice. I would highly recommend it if you've got the funds. There's a lot of activities and the day I looked at, it was New Year's Eve, and they were having an afternoon party with champagne for the residents. It was really cute. They had a nice little fireplace where people could gather, sit, or read. It was also pet-friendly. Everything about it was just wonderful. The staff was so outgoing and friendly. They greeted me in every corner. They have a variety of accommodations. We saw a studio and it was nice with a nice, big window, a kitchenette with a little refrigerator and a microwave. Their menu also looked good. It changes every day and they could either eat in their dining room or they could have it upstairs. So, it's very flexible.

Sunrise of San Mateo was very nice, but at that time I didn't want to move my brother so far. I went there last year. They have studios. It's beautiful and very nice. They did have activities. I did see the dining room, and I did see the food that they were serving at lunch. It looked delicious. Everything looked like five stars. Actually, the memory care section is on the second or third floor. I thought the outdoor area was limited, but I would say it was secure. They do have the wander guard. They do have locks for entrances and exits. People like my brother tend to wander and that is one of the things that I look for. Everything was very nice.

Sunrise of San Mateo is very welcoming, and it's beautiful inside. I actually liked the idea that there's a lot of sunlight coming in over the dining area. Then the people that are wandering around (the seniors in there), actually have a nice well-lit corridor. I like the layout, and I like the location in San Mateo. I like that it's not a large community because at some of the large ones, you get lost. It is very compact and very neat. The staff treated me great. I didn't see anything I didn't like. It looked very nice. I saw the main dining room, the bedrooms, the movie room, the hair salon, and the library. I went to every floor. Every floor seems to have a sitting area; so no matter what floor you're on, you actually have a nice area with couches and chairs. You could just sit and relax to talk to your friends. I like that, too.

Sunrise of San Mateo was very good. They were very warm to us. The rooms were light and airy. They have social activities. Basically all the communal activities happen on one level, which is helpful. They have outdoor patios, which I liked. They had a library, an activity room, a lounge area with a piano, and a movie room. They have one-bedrooms and studios. The staff member who accommodated me was great and very thorough. They were very good and they answered all my questions.

Sunrise of San Mateo seemed like a good place. They don't have a swimming pool or Jacuzzi which was something we were looking for for my mother. They didn't really have a lot of open space, but it seemed like a nice place. The rooms were very small, but the food was no better than average.

I’ve looked at Sunrise of San Mateo and it was very nice but a lot more expensive. I just took a tour, so I don’t know anything more about that. The people took some time to show me around, show me the rooms, and explained the facilities. I was probably there for half an hour, so I’ve seen just a little rundown of it, but it looked very well-maintained and very nice. I just looked at a one-bedroom, and it had a half kitchen with a little sink, a cupboard, and a little refrigerator, which was nice.

Sunrise of San Mateo is a very clean place and seemed professionally managed. When we visited, they had the residents under quarantine, so we didn’t see many people. The whole place was very nice and felt comfortable. The staff was very professional, and they are very well staffed. The nursing staff was impressive and seemed to be ready for anything.

Sunrise of San Mateo was nice, but it was far away from where we are. I didn't see anybody doing anything. They were congregating and going to have a lecture that afternoon about some subject. We didn't see anybody doing any card playing or anything like that. It's the one that I would recommend to people investigating if they were interested in going into a facility like that. It was one of the nicer ones.

Sunrise was really very nice. I really liked this facility. Everything was very clean, open, and nice. The rooms were lovely. The movie area was a little small, but the entertainment director was very nice. They had a library and different sitting areas. It was a good facility. The sales people and the reception people were nice.

Sunrise of San Mateo is an older place. I don't think the location is very good. The lady who took us around definitely put us off. She was nothing to write home about. She was just in a hurry to take us around. We didn't see any rooms. That lady did not show us anything. We took a peek at the dining room, and we looked at the menu. They definitely need better management.

My mom did a respite at Sunrise of San Mateo. It is a really nice facility. This is another beautiful place where natural light comes in. It is very well lit. It is not dingy. It is very high-end but they really take care of everybody. They have around-the-clock care too. They are actually able to help if you're a diabetic. They have a really great activities director who brought in people to do beading with them, as well as painting with the memory care unit. You can have pets in this community. There is a lovebird in a sitting room. They have all-day dining. They have a beautiful dining room. They also have a bistro where they can get juice, cookies and crackers. They have shuttle bus service almost every day of the week. Their rooms are a little bit smaller, but they're very, very nice. Their bathrooms are a really good size for seniors. In every floor, they have a TV in the sitting room. There is a balcony and a patio that you can go out. The nice thing about Sunrise is that they have a garage underneath where family members can park to see their loved ones. They also have a washer and dryer. You can do your own laundry or they'll do it for you. They have a beauty parlor. They have movies every night. They even have a nice fireplace place and a library. Also, Sunrise of San Mateo is in a great location.

Sunrise of San Mateo, so far, seems to be the one for my loved one. It looked great. This place was clean. They had a mix of residents who seemed very energetic. The caretakers and care master of the facility were very knowledgeable and seemed to be very caring there. They were very nice. They explained a lot of things to me about dementia and Alzheimer's, signs to look out for, etc., and I was very appreciative of that. The rooms were very nice. I know they have daily activities for residents there. The food looked good too.

The Sunrise of San Mateo was nice, and the people were friendly. They had like a committee of people who live there and were talking about things, what they wanted to change and what worked out, and it seemed very nice. It was a very nice place. They had movies, a book club, and an art class. The place was very convenient for walking because it was on a flat area, and the church that my mom wanted was across the street, so it was good.

I love Sunrise of San Mateo. I would love to more in there. It feels like a dorm and maybe my kids would put me there someday. Grandma was there and it's an awesome place. I love the rooms. The staff are great and their food is good. The staff would even watch what you are eating; like when you are diabetic, they would watch your sweets or even your salt intake.

Sunrise of San Mateo was my favorite of all the facilities I visited. That would be my first choice. I think the staff there overall took the most time with us during the tour. Also their interaction with the patients was really genuine. The residents in turn were seeking them out and were comfortable with them. They were also smiling when we visited and seemed to be very comfortable being there.

The people at San Mateo are very friendly. The admissions people are the ones who were very friendly, very easy to get along. Help is very good, very well trained, and very nice. We always have food that's very nourishing, and we have loads of choices here.

My experience with this facility over the last couple years has been extremely positive. The man at the door is very friendly, as well as the rest of the staff. The residents seem very happy here. I was impressed with the decor and desgin, it felt like a mansion.

The assisted living facility that I had visited was just great for my family member. They had everything I could imagine that my family member needed and more. There were all kinds of amenities such as a reading room, tiny courtyard where the patients could get some fresh air, a reading room, a game room, and of course the basic necessities such as a kitchen, dining room, a television room and neighbors. The neighbors had made my family members experience the greatest there. She was always thinking that she would be alone and lonely but once she got there and made some new friends she was happy and fit right in. The level of assistance that she got was amazing from the staff. They provided her with the best service and always made her feel comfortable. Every time I came to visit they would always welcome me and make her feel as if she is the center of attention.

My mother resides at this facility. She loves it there her care givers and the caring staff are phenomenal. Dealing with the management is a nightmare. Their only interest is their bottom line. They have tried several times to increase the level of care my mother receives -- they claim to champion their residents independence while adding on charges to the monthly bills for services not needed. Its a shame and their seems to be no one governing how these facilities conduct their business. More than three time in less than 3 years our bill has been adjusted incorrectly. I feel for the seniors that don't have family or a person to watch out for them.

I was just here a few days ago to speak with the staff (I'm a social worker) and to do a walk through. I've also had clients here--and have gotten feedback from them. This is an assisted living community that also offer memory care. PROS: - It's in a family-oriented residential neighborhood. It's close to shops and a park and is very quiet and nice. - The facility is nice, elegant, with quiet music playing in the lobby. It's medium size. - The rooms -- studios or 1 BR -- are spacious and come either furnished or unfurnished (though they prefer that you bring your own). - All the rooms are private and have big windows. - There's a snack bar downstairs that's always open. - The care staff is extremely friendly, and there's one staff member assigned to each resident for closer supervision. They're all well trained, attentive, caring, and very familiar with each and every resident. - Activities are good: poker, lots of outings, entertainers, tournaments for things like checkers, chess, cards. - The residents tell me the food is great, and they love the snack bar. CONS: - It's right off Camino Real, a busy street. - Parking isn't good. They do have an underground parking lot, but it can be hard to find.
