Short term stay experience at St. Jewish SF is poor. Many staffs’ working attitude is passive. For example, my dad’s diaper and bed sheet had wet for a long time and no one change for him. My mom called for help, the nurse came, ran away and no one come for help. Dental hygiene attention is not given daily. My dad had fever and blood tests were done. Report came back for 2 days but doctor has not review the report

San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living is so large, and my friend has a tendency to feel completely lost. They showed me a studio. It's quite good, but there was an industrial sense of the whole place that I didn't like. It was too large and more impersonal. It was very clean. It just felt like a business. They interviewed me and I got a feeling of it as a business rather than a home. I didn't have a feeling of outside space. They have all of the amenities. It's all in very good condition because it's new. I didn't feel a warmth there. The staff is very intelligent, but very businesslike, so there's a lack of warmth and a lack of welcoming. It just didn't seem right, but maybe I was there on a bad day.

Jewish Home of San Francisco is so unbelievable. Every resident has a separate apartment with a bathroom. The staff is too good to be true. If the family is present, they serve the food in the room.

The staff of Jewish Home probably had a more caring attitude. Their dining area was much better, and the rooms looked more spacious. They had Bingo, painting, games, and they also had services for people who wanted to attend those services. I liked this facility, I liked the programs and that they encourage the residents to participate. There was a genuine care -- and not only from the perspective of reporting to families. I would have moved in there with no questions asked.

I think for long term care it is probably okay, but for short term care it is not what it used to be. The biggest problem is the staff's culture from overseas and that it clashes with American culture in regard to saving face. Instead of admitting there was a problem or they made a mistake -- it is always the guests fault. An example "I don't want to wear that. It is dirty". Assistants answer "Well you family doesn't do a very good job at washing your clothes." In actuality they were trying to put soiled clothes on the guest which they wore the day before"¦ They don't seem to keep accurate notes and the manager of this particular floor did not seem to be on top of their nurses or assistants.

I think this home and the care that was provided to my mother during the 10 years she lived there was outstanding! I don't have a lot of experience with other care giving facilities so I don't have a lot to compare to, but I can't image finding a place with better facilities, staff, and care for your loved one. My mother had a social worker who I maintained close touch with. Volunteers were provided to help keep her from getting lonely when I couldn't be there. There were many activities and events: for example there's an studio with oils and pastels and a pottery wheel; musical events with performances by many excellent outside groups; discussion groups; exercise groups; and even a gym with specialized equipment. My favorite annual event was the Chanukah show -- all performed by the residences and well-attended by the outside community. Rabbi Marder is terrific and I always volunteered at the high holidays and attended many services where family members were always welcome. The food is OK given that the cooking is for more the 500 residents and holiday meals are provided (Passover, Chanukah, etc.) There's a small cafe with coffee and sandwiches and a gift shop too. The grounds are very nice and the facility is always kept very clean. The medical staff is excellent and all specialize in geriatric care. And the nurses aids were really special -- these are the folks who your loved one sees the most and they were all very friendly and skilled caregivers. I so much appreciate all the care my mother was given during her time there and I highly recommend the Jewish Home.

The Jewish Home of San Fransisco is not the best, but its some where at the top. First of all, The location is fantastic. There is a Market 2 blocks away from it, so I can stop by and get dinner when i'm visiting my elders. I've been told that the food there is Delicious, and they have special menus for when its a holiday or somebody's birthday. The fact that I love the most,This being a Jewish center, is that they have a Rabbi! I don't see many Nursing homes with Rabbis. The activities there are okay, but they do have a very large selection. Also, an added plus is that when you walk in the home, It doesn't smell like a nursing home! Overall, this is a pretty good home. The food is great, not like the mush they call oatmeal at other homes, the activities are good, and the staff treats you like family!
