Aldersly Retirement was light and airy. The apartments were garden-style, not in a high-rise building. The garden area was first class. The food was very good. I sat with five other men, who love it there.

Aldersly Retirement Community is right next door to where I live. They charge a $100k dollars buy-in. The one-bedroom units are very small, and they have too many stairs and not enough elevators. Their food is so-so. The staff is all Hispanic, so little English is spoken, which turned me off immediately. They do what they have to do and then they go chat in the hallway. Right now, they have a virus spreading. The nurses' floor is closed down and quarantined. They have a parking garage, but it’s limited, and they have some outdoor parking but not much. Mostly, it’s street parking. It's a three-story building. The library is big, and they have two dining rooms, one for the real main meals and then they have another snack dining room.

Aldersly Garden has lovely surroundings, and when you go out your door, there are gardens. I like the staff. They are very courteous. I visited a one-bedroom apartment, and it is nice and big -- very adequate. They have three dining areas; one is for active seniors, one is for assisted seniors, and the last one is the nursing unit. The meal hours are quite extended, they are very generous with the time, there are about two choices every day, and they put out the list ahead of time so you can make your choice. They have a bus that takes you various places if you want to go out. They have card games, a nice library with quite a lot of books, physical activity, a gym, and an instructor, so you have a class, which is very nice.
