This place is filthy the staff are rude and what made me really check my dad out in less than 4 hours of being there was seeing a cockroach crawling on the ground in his room having to share one bathroom with six other patients is unacceptable!!!!

Brookside was a lousy place. My husband didn't like the food and didn't get care right away. We didn't stay long because my husband wasn't happy there at all.

My dad is in a motel room with a family member who cannot take care of herself. I was told if my dad ever decided he was going to discharge himself he had a right to do this. My sister is power of attorney, we were told we were going to be notified ASAP and his sister was not to take him, in the end armed with a doctor's discharge note, several nurses and a social worker he left. He had a stroke a year ago, cannot eat without assistance, has bedsores and was nearly going to have his leg amputated. I told the nursing home time and again I thought my dad was having memory issues and they said no he did not. According to the doctor's diagnosis he was able to make his own choices. My dad thinks he can get into a damaged car, drive himself to New Mexico and he will be safe. He cannot sit up very long, he told me the facility did not feed him, left him in his own urine and feces and did not check on him when his blood sugars dropped. They told me he was not making sense. What point is a patient going to have good choices on his own care, and then when he complains tell me he can't make good decisions He was in a hospital for pressures sores and a resident doctor at the VA told me that under their observations he was not able to make decisions on his health, he had moments of clarity but his mental status would deteriorate. I cannot find him, he was a homeless veteran. I am not getting any help from his sister who told me she does not know where he is at. I have filed a complaint with the State of California and I am only writing this review to please be aware of what you do. The place is crowded, there are three beds in a room, things go missing, my dad had questionable people come to see him before I was notified, transients and one was convicted child molester, whom my dad didnt know,. They told me they were not going to stop him, because he could bring anyone he wanted to into the facility. My dad is in a motel room, and I don't know where he is. Yes, I will say there are people who are in this facility who do their work, some who truly care, who call me when my dad's health is bad, or when he refuses care, or food.. My sister had power of attorney, and we were told we could not see any bills which were being paid, they told me he told them no. Upon discharge, my sister found out that they didn't pay for a storage unit, and now his storage unit is going to be placed for auction. The facility discharged him, saying he was going to New Mexico, when I called him, he said he didn't know where he was staying. He said there was no facility in New Mexico he was going to. All I got from the ADN was there is nothing I can do, he is actively leaving. I am sorry I have the doctor's orders.

Brookside was the one I thought was the best. It didn’t look institutional, it was very clean, and they had a lot of staff and activities. They have therepy and therapists, which was nice, so I would give them a five-star rating for that. I wandered around a little bit and saw that the rooms were clean and of a pretty good size. I was only there for 20 minutes, but from what I saw, the outside appearance and the staff were good.

We sent my father their for recovery after surgery he was admitted at 5:00 pm no one was their to see what his needs were. I had to fill out paper work took about 15 minutes when I got to his room he had no blanket no top sheet there was nothing in his room but a small dresser and a bed. His neighbor next to him was running around nude cussing and yelling. I had to go find a nurse the first time nothing happen I had to go out again she finally sent someone. Told him he needed a pillow under his arm so he took a pillow from under my dad's head which was as flat as a pancake put it under his arm and said he would just take his brace of I had to tell him that was not aloud he had to keep on. Was told they would get my dad dinner they showed up at 9:00 pm with a peanut butter sandwich. My dad has problem walking he asked to go to bathroom needed a wheelchair they went to find one came back 2 hrs later and asked if he needed anything she tried to put him on a wheelchair that the guy next to him had just deficated in. After that she said she needed to put a diaper on him.the nurse went to take his bandages off my father told him they were not supposed to come off yet per his doctor the nurse said he knew what he was doing and cut them off . Need to say I took my father out the minute I got there.

Brookside Healthcare Center has different levels of care. We liked the location and it was a nice environment, a little depressing looking and it looked somewhat restricted, like a regimental thing. It seemed a little boring. It's got too many locked doors and if you go through them, they'd sound off an alarm someplace. We weren't really impressed, but we liked that area because our kids and grandkids live nearby, that's why we were checking. It was immaculate and very organized.

My mother was at Brookside Healthcare Center for about 16 days. I didn't have any dissatisfaction with them. They provided physical therapy so she went once a day. They hit the mark as far as medication and follow-ups. The personnel were pretty personable so it was a good place. She's happy with the staff. She tried a dessert and it looked like it was pretty adequate.
