I went to Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. I don't think bigger is necessarily better, but its adequate size was nice. The ground floor was very nice. The care living units were not that big. The staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. We had two different people speak with us. We had the director, and then we had the person who was more about recruiting residents. The rooms in the assisted living are very nice, really nice. It would be like a very nice apartment, so more towards an apartment feel, less like a hospital. The dining area is like a family setting. There would be multiple tables where groups would be sitting, some as small as just two and some as big as half a dozen or so. So it was kind of like an individual family-style dining. They have an outdoor area that they can walk on. They have an activity schedule and activity room.

The rooms at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville were a little small and they didn't have full kitchens. A lot of them did not have washers and dryers in individual rooms. The facility could have been cleaner, but everything else looked very nice. The little community rooms and their activities were nice. They had some little side trips to local restaurants. The dining room and the menu looked nice. The staff was very helpful and polite, and she did a wonderful job showing us around.

When I toured Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville, I found the person in charge very accommodating. He took me on a tour of the whole place and showed me rooms that were a little less expensive for some reason. I think it was like a budget room or something. He showed me a studio apartment, a regular apartment, their activity room, and showed me the schedule of all the different activities offered. Also, the dining room, the menu, and how they could order. It was a very nice place; I was really impressed. You bring all your own furniture. Their explanation for that is so they would have their own bed. It would be like their own little home or apartment. What they did provide is a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, and a full kitchen. I believe it had a dishwasher also. They were really nice. They had call buttons in the bathroom, and the call button could be reached at any part in the bathroom. They had a step through shower, which is floor level. So there was no stepping over a tub or anything. It was very nice. It's set up for somebody that needed assisted living. One of the apartments that we looked at, a studio, it would connect to the dining room very easily. There was a small flower bed in between, empty at this time of the year. I thought that should be a little sidewalk. They should fill that place in with cement, a walkway, so that it would be really easy to get into the dining room and the activity room from there. There were a couple of apartments like that. If they just extended the sidewalk, put in a little cement pad, which wouldn't take much to do, that would make that so much more accessible, especially when you're talking about people with walkers or wheelchairs. The person who gave me the tour just called me a little bit ago to see how my sister's doing, and I told him we're at a standstill right now at this point. He was really helpful about telling me about the VA application and giving me a number to call if we needed help. So, he's been great. I didn't try any meals, but I know that I could go there and do that at any time. In fact, he mentioned that, and he said that there was a small charge, but he also had coupons he would be willing to give us, if any of us wanted to do that. Everything looks very clean, very well-maintained, and freshly painted. It was very nice.

I was not impressed with Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It wasn't as clean as the other facilities that we saw. It looks like they comingled the memory care with assisted living. Truthfully, it was a little depressing seeing that. We came at their lunchtime, so some people were in there eating. They have one gentleman there that was maybe slow but he kept following us around and talking. We were touring and we were asking questions and they just never stopped him from doing that. The rooms were fine. We were interested in finding a place with a full kitchen and they didn't offer that.

We went to look at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It was nice. It was more of a hotel setting. We went by one of the rooms where there was an exercise room, and everyone was doing exercises. They have an activity schedule and a hair salon there. They had courtyards and a little patio area.

There are a couple of people I knew over at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. My mother was in Prestige, and my uncle was in Prestige. They have their own memory care wing, and they also have just the regular wing for the other people. They have companion rooms with two people to a room, which was very helpful because they could interact with each other, and I know my uncle -- even though he doesn't remember us or anything like that -- he likes to talk. The staff was very professional in their manner. They knew a lot about their facility. They offered me to come back and eat if I wanted.

My mom was a resident of Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It was nice. It's more of a resort atmosphere the way they designed the meals. Everybody sits together in an open area with lots of windows, they serve you pretty nicely, and you're cared for pretty well there as far as food goes. I heard the meals on weekends get really, really poor. So during the week it looks pretty nice, but on the weekends it's not so nice. They need to have more activity there. They kind of bunch people up in a room and play bingo, and that's about it -- nothing else. There's nothing there that really inspires them to do anything. They don't have very much to get them out of their rooms and doing things. Some staff are good, and some are bad. They had better service on weekdays and better meals. During the week, they try to put a put on a show, make it look nice, or invite family over. They put a big show on for that, but as soon as the family is gone and it's a weekend, the staff are horrible. They don't do much. They try to do as little as possible for the residents there. I would not have moved her had they not changed my rates so rapidly. At the beginning of the year, they said they did an evaluation and there would be no changes with mom. They also said they were going to increase the rate a little bit because they have to pay more for wages and stuff, and they said the rent will probably go up a little bit. I expected that and figured it's a couple more hundred dollars a month, which is probably average because it seems like every year it goes up to a couple hundred dollars a month. But shortly after that evaluation, they hired a new nurse to run the place. They hired a new staff and a new manager, and the other people left. When I first moved my mom there, they said it was a good family place, and people were in for years, and it sounded like a good deal, and it was for a while. But at the end of January this year -- after they told me that no changes were going to happen -- they re-evaluated my mom and raised her from level three to level six. They also said they had to increase hours for people for my mom. They said they had to have have extra people in mom's room, because she accused their staff of doing things. It's really important to know that they will jack your rate up indiscriminately without telling you. They'll tell you they have to raise your rate, but they won't tell you by how much. Everybody got their rate jacked up over there. They're out there for money, not to help people. They didn't increase any type of care for mom; they just act like they doubled the care for her, but they didn't. They couldn't show me there was extra work done by their people. That's why I moved my mom, because they doubled the rate, and they could not show me the hours justifying that.

My mother is in Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It is always very clean, and it never smells. The only issue is the price is outlandish. They are great at everything, but their prices are really high. The staff is pleasant and easy to work with. They have exercises. They have puzzles, and they have things for the cognitive. It is always very clean, but it is too expensive for what you get.

Prestige at Oroville is very comfortable and the people are really friendly, so it's great. The staff helps me with everything that I ask for. My apartment is a small room that has a living room, bedroom, and a little kitchenette. They take you to the doctor or to Walmart if you want to go to the store, they have games to play, entertainment comes in (like singers and dancers), and they have games to play. The staff is very good. On the weekends they seem short-handed, but they work very hard and they're very fast. Since I have been here only a short time, they check on me all the time. The food is average. It seems like there's a lot of chicken and fish but I don't like fish. But they have other things that you can order. The place itself is really nice and attractive. However, the price is very expensive.

Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville's view was of a hospital, and it's not great. It's OK in the facility, but when you look out, that's all you see, and we didnt like that view. The rooms were fine, and the lady who dealt with us was really great. The place was clean enough, just older. They played cards and puzzles.

Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville is high on our list. The price is reasonable, and the location is ideal for us. They invited us for lunch and showed us the rooms. It was a very lovely place.

We chose Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville for my mother because they seemed to be very compassionate and very committed to their residents; we found out that to be true. They had a lot of activities, like arts and crafts, bingo, music, and lots of different types of things that people can participate in if they want to.

Prestige was very nice, but it cost more than we can afford. The staff was very accommodating and explained everything to us. The dining area was large and very nice. You can eat there or in your room.

Dad is a resident at Prestige. I like that they are attentive 24/7 because Dad gets up very early and wants his coffee right away. The girls are very accommodating and very quick to let me know if there is something that he wants but does not have. They are very open with the communication. He was a little bit withdrawn when he started and did not want to participate, but they got him going to concerts and attending trips. The staff is excellent, very friendly, and are willing to help. Anything that I ask that they do not know, they find out for me. They are very good.

Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville is perfect. The rooms are okay. They are kind of like a motel room. There is a tiny little kitchen which my mom never uses and there is a big bathroom. She is mostly in the living area with the other residents. The food is good. It seems appropriate for her. She does not complain about it. They have activities every day that the residents can participate in like bingo. I am really quite pleased about it. She has dementia and I think she is fine. They seem to care for her and she seems happy and we are happy too. All is well.

First of all, the location was quite nice. Presige assisted living is located very near the town's only hospital, complete with pharmacy and adjacent medical buildings. An ambulance, if needed, could be there in less than three minutes. They also had a shuttle service to transport residents to medical appointments in town. The shuttle was also used to transport residents to local shopping centers, or sometimes to give the residents a little local field trip. The staff were patient, caring and professional. The staff would look in on mom in her room to make sure she was O.K. and to offer assistance if needed. They would sometimes come by and remind her that a meal would be ready soon. I never once saw an employee react sharply to my mom. They would speak to her slowly and respectfully and treat her with respect. My mom had some trouble with her cable TV reception, and the maintenance man spent quite of bit of time helping her with the problem until it was resolved. He also put some sliders on her walker, which greatly improved her mobility. Sometimes one of the kitchen staff would bring her a treat to her room, because she didn't always eat in the common room, but ate her own food from a small refrigerator in her room. There are activities such as bingo, bean toss and Wii bowling as well as religious meetings and concerts to enjoy. My mom loves the Wii bowling. The rooms are small but clean and many, like my moms have a walled in patio. The only thing I didn't like is that they had assigned seating in the meal area, because you end up eating with folks you didn't care for. My mom, a discriminating woman, seems to be happy there and that is the best recommendation of all.

On Thursday, October 20, I visited this 60 bed facility which accommodates 44 assisted living clients and 16 memory care (secured) living clients. There are currently no vacancies. The entrance area is light and open and appears clean, orderly and very friendly. The receptionist was very helpful and immediately summoned an appropriate person to describe the facility. There are studio apartments; one and two bedroom apartments. The later consisting of over 800 sq ft living space. The usual amenities are available, i.e. 3 meals daily. The price is comparable to other facilities but the memory care section costs more. One ambulatory man seemed most content and at home.
