My dad now lives at Hilltop Commons, and he likes it very much. It is quite nice, and it fits his needs because he is relatively independent. They have the number of meals he wants, they have a very nice common room, and the apartments are reasonably spacious.

Hilltop Commons' location is really good. My mom has had different friends that have gone there and just loved it. It's an independent living and it was really clean and very well laid out. All of the people that we met there that day, the residents, were all just very complimentary of it. They also seemed happy and well cared for. It had a wonderful atmosphere and was just nice. We only really interacted with the lady, Tracey, and she's their marketing person who does the tour and everything. She was the person that we were with most of the time, and she was just extremely friendly, kind, just very nice, and seemed to have a good rapport with all the residents there. They showed us the menu and all the people that my mom has known that have gone there have always said how good the food was. From the menu, it looked like a restaurant and it's nice. If there's something that they're serving on a particular day that the resident doesn't care for, they can choose something else and they'll fix that for them. The facility is very good, I was very impressed with it. They took us to see an apartment on the ground floor, which is what my mom wanted, and they held it with a deposit until January for her. It was just immaculate and looked brand-new.

Hilltop Commons was really beautiful. The thing that impressed me was it was so light with lots of sun coming in, you walk in, and it's a really beautiful, light place. So many places are dark. The staff was wonderful and answered my questions. We went to one apartment of a lady who gave permission to show hers. It was beautiful and large. You can get a one-bedroom or two-bedroom. They served us lunch, and the food was delicious and hot. Everything was very clean and very nice.

My mother has been a resident for over five years. Without much prompting, she will readily discuss how pleased she has been with Hilltop. The office staff is always ready to assist her (and us) in any way it can, often going above and beyond in their efforts. The same goes for the kitchen crew, each of whom seems to know every resident by name and will readily cater to individual quirks and preferences. The facility itself is also important because it provides spaciousness both inside and out. If we could be more pleased with Hilltop than we have been, I'm not sure how.
Happy and grateful and at peace

I have just had the most wonderful experience with the staff and several of the residents at Hilltop Commons in Grass Valley. I took my 91 year old Mother over there for a tour so that we could begin the process of exploring the possibility of her moving into a independent living situation. We were greeted by the Marketing Manager Sue and she took us under her loving wing and showed us everything that they offered, introduced us to several of the residents and all of the staff. Without exception everyone was so welcoming and so friendly and helpful that by the end of our visit my mother and I both knew that this was going to be the perfect place for this new phase of her life. Sue has such a calming, upbeat, way of presenting all the information and listening very carefully to our questions and concerns that at the end of our time there Mom sat down and wrote a check to hold the apartment that she wanted. I can not say enough good things about this wonderful place.

We've lived in Hilltop Commons for a year and a half. We like the staff, the people, the food, and the entertainment. We have a lot of different entertainment and card games to keep us pretty busy, which I like. The staff is wonderful. They'll take you to the doctor and appointments with a van that takes you out three times a week wherever you need to go. We have our laundry room, and you can hire caretakers if you want. We're independent living, which means you take care of yourself, but they step in when they need to. The services are great. We have a happy hour, birthday parties once a month, bingo, pinochle, bridge, and all kinds of games that you want to play.

We weren't impressed with Hilltop Commons. It felt like a much-older facility, and the apartments weren't as clean and fresh. The people were great, and they actually had a good price point, so that would have been nice, but the apartments didn't feel as fine as the other ones. The facility would only serve two meals a day, so we thought this facility would have been fine for my mom because she only needs two meals a day. The staff was very friendly. I knew several of the staff members as individuals outside the facility, and they're really exceptional people, so I knew my mother would be in good hands if she went there.

My father chose Hilltop Commons because he felt like he wasn't in a place where he needed the assisted care. The manager was very, very knowledgeable, warm, and receptive to him. The staff are wonderful. There's always somebody in the office. They are extremely helpful and very kind. He could relate to the residents there much better. They were very friendly and outgoing. They have a lot of activities. They have dominos, they have bridge, they play bingo, they do crochet, and they have movie nights. They have tons and tons of activities. The only thing that would need to be improved is the meal menu. They probably need to have some more options. The price is extremely affordable.
