I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Don't be fooled buy the beauty of the building. They are constantly under staffed, highly mis-managed and unorganized. Residents aren't cared for as they claim! Cost is increased regularly and found charges they had to reverse. If your loved one is a resident, I'd advise to visit regularly and at different times. Keep your loved one home in a loving caring environment if you can. Make their end of years the the best for them and you to remember. Hire home health to help you if you have to.

We got my aunt settled in an assisted living facility called Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's a beautiful facility and she can afford it, and so it works just fine. It is physically attractive and offers wonderful services. They have living areas, game rooms, health facilities, a lovely dining room, and attractive menus for the meals. We were fed lunch, which was very nice. We spoke with the marketing people, the administrators who admit new residents to the facility, a nurse, and the chef. The programs they have there are daily games, entertainment trips, and transportation to medical and other kinds of appointments. They have a whole array of things that are typically available to residents of assisted living.

I toured Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. The staff are good. The staff were attentive. When I walked in, the residents there were fully engaged. So it wasn't like they were just sitting there, very geriatric style, like eating oatmeal, and in the wheelchair. They were engaging with them. It was nice. It has a beautiful grounds facility. It was the priciest of all of them. It was just far, and I might not ever see my mom if I took her out there. The staff was good. We were in communication about what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it, and what would be best for my mom. He was good. They have a courtyard in the back for the memory care site.

My aunt, the potential resident, my 2 siblings and I visited Paint Brush, the 1st facility on our list. After entering the front door, my aunt said " I don't think we need to see any other place!". She loved the look and feel of it and our collective opinion only grew from there! We were fortunate to have Reuben give us our tour, along with thorough information about the facility. We were treated to a delicious lunch! The entire facility is spacious, beautiful and full of life! The studio apartment was pretty with a huge, easily accessible shower. There are so many activities for the residents and many areas for them to explore their options of interests; tv, movies, arts and crafts, gardening, etc. My aunt chose Paint Brush and is so happy that she did. She feels at home there. Thank you Reuben and Paint Brush!

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was beautiful. It had a very homey feel to it. It's very comfortable when you walk in. Everything was very inviting. They offer a lot of good things for the people who live there. They have outdoor activities and indoor activities. They're always doing something. I toured a one-bedroom apartment, which was perfect in size as far as accommodations. However, they don't accept any kind of Medi-Cal or Medicaid. It's cash only. The staff who gave the tour was wonderful. She was so sweet. And she answered all my questions. I told her about my situation, and she said she was going to look for me and reach out and let me know. As for amenities, they had a barista area, snacks, and stuff. It looked like a baby Starbucks; it was very cute. It was very clean and well-maintained. Everything about it was fantastic.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for visiting us, Shelley. Our entire team appreciates your review and we hope you will visit us again soon.

I was very impressed with Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. The gal who gave me the tour was extremely helpful. The facility was very nice. I liked everything about it. That would be one of my first choices. The apartment that I was looking at was just a small one for my brother, and I was very pleased with that. They had walk-in showers and I didn't have any complaints about that at all.

Provider Response

Thank you so much, Dianne! We hope your brother will call Paintbrush his new home soon!

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was nice. It was a newer building, so the rooms were very nice with roll-in showers. The options, healthiness, and what they had available off of the menu were all good. They had a raised garden area. They had a community room, an exercise room, a theater, a TV room, and a game room with a pool table.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care gave me a full tour, talked to me, and gave me a lot of information. They also gave me a physician's report to send to the VA. I liked the place, it was nice and clean. They have a big dining hall where they would eat, they have movie nights and other stuff, and they have an elevator. And the people there were very nice. I haven't tried the food but I saw that they had pies, cakes, cookies, and all the dessert things. I also saw the little setup where they can pull up, ring the bell, and they can tell them what they want. And then they have people that come out and give them food if they can handle it, they hand it to them or go to the table. Their dining area was nice and clean, and they had assistants, and people cleaning after them. They've got a barbecue pit outside, and your family members can come and have a barbecue with them or eat with them. They have a little stove out there where you can heat up something if you want to come out and eat with your family members. They do crafts, they have a game area where they can go and play games with other clients there like cards, checkers, or chess or something. I liked how the staff greeted me, and they answered all the questions I asked. I also asked if they can take pictures of the rooms to show my brother because I didn't take him with me, and they're very good. They were giving out little things to everybody in the room for Christmas. There was no dirt, I didn't see trash, this is on a busy street and I didn't see any debris.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was nice. I have a friend that lives there, so we had lunch with her and then we went to her room and then we looked around. I enjoyed what I saw. If I have to go to one, I think that's one I would get. The dining area was nice, neat, and clean, and the food was really good. You could also pick something that's off the menu. Everybody was super friendly. Some people were having an afternoon tea. They also had a movie screen that you could watch. They also had transportation and they said sometimes they take them out on shopping sprees or they would take them around. Those were some of the activities they offered. My friend's room was nice. There was a nice living room, the bathroom was huge, and the bedroom was just the right size. She had it fixed up nicely. You can bring your own furniture in. She had bought her furniture from home and they had it arranged in her living room there. It's so beautiful when it's lit up at night. I had passed by there several times. The outside was beautiful. It seems more like a hotel when you walk up there. It's like a home away from home. To me, it was a little bit too expensive and then you have to pay for everything extra.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was a little bit pricy, but they were very accommodating and very nice. The staff was excellent. It was too far out for us for the price and everything, but it was very nice. The residents were all sitting around having fun. Upkeep and maintenance were excellent. The room was nice and clean. They had a salon.

I loved Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. As I was walking from the parking lot, I saw their little bus. I saw all the residents excited to go on their shopping spree to Target. The staff was super excited to get them loaded, and they were just as excited to take them there. The room was beautifully decorated, and there's so much going on. There's staff everywhere. There were residents everywhere. There were lots of women out visiting with each other in their wheelchairs and chairs and having tea. I saw people using every area of the sitting room, of the lobby, and of the little cafe they have available. Everyone there was happy. The staff was warm, and everybody seemed to love their job. The dining area was beautiful. We went into a private conference room, where the staff offered me coffee and pastries and so forth. The staff was amazing, and she still follows up with me to find out how my mom and I are doing. She has actually followed up with us to see if we needed anything. She knew that my mom got sick, and she offered to drop us off some of their meals if we needed them. I've recommended it to an uncle for their care.

I picked Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care for my mother, and she's already moved into the assisted living. The experience has been good. The place is very inviting, and it's a happy place. They help out a lot. They're very helpful. I haven't had a meal there personally, but my mother says their food is good. They have activities. They have live music. They have a dining hall and an activities room. They have exercise classes. They have church and a movie theater. The staff is very attentive. In terms of value for the money, they also offer veteran discounts.

I went to Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. The staff was excellent. It is probably where I would put my mother as the first choice. It was accessible and open. I liked the ambiance and the atmosphere. It was like going to the lodge really. It was just really, really nice. It was extremely well-kept. I saw the common areas through the windows. I met with the director outside, who very helpful.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was beautiful but was too big for my mom so she was going to get lost there. It looked nice though. I didn't see any of the apartments because the memory section did not allow us in there. I just got to tour the main building, and it was really pretty. I saw the front area where some people were playing card games and they also had a coffee section there. There was a theater room too and they were all very nice. I went to tour the memory care section but their rooms were all full so they could not show me any. I thought it was great that I saw so many people out visiting or playing card games but my mom just wasn't at that level. They were too high level for her. I thought it was fabulous that they were not hunkered down in their rooms though, and that they were out in the communal areas. I love seeing that.

My husband has moved into Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. It's very nice. It's a very beautiful design. The administration is very good, but I think some of the staff are not trained well enough on the memory care side. The food is excellent; it is very good. He has participated in activities. They have happy hour every Friday afternoon at 2:00, and then they have activities during the week for the memory care people. They do games with them to stimulate them. It's pretty good that way. I would say the value is pretty good. I pay $4,800 a month, the starting place, I believe. Memory care is $4,595, and my husband is a veteran, so he got a 10 percent discount. His level of care is a level one, and that I didn't know until after I had gotten him in there, and I thought I was going to be paying $4,100 a month, and it's actually $4,800. They tried to jump him to a level three after only a short time, and I said no, because if he had gone to a level three that would have been like $1,200 more. I complained about that, and they didn't do it.

I helped my best friend's family find a memory care home for her that would provide comradery, and both physical & mental stimulation. We were impressed with the beauty & cleanliness of Paintbrush, and the variety of activities for its Residents. At first, it seemed that the aids were capable and engaged in the care of the Residents, but after a short time, there was a definite change. The aids no longer acted as a "team", many of the MC Residents walked around like Zombies, and there were few to no activities. The Executive Director was on leave, the Memory Care Director was on leave. The Activities Director took over for the MC Director. The ED came back, the MC Director did not, and the Activities Detector was made the MC Director, with no qualifying credentials. My friend lost 30 pounds in less than 3 months there. She lost all color from her face, her head dropped permanently on her chest, and she stopped talking (except for gibberish). Paintbrush was provided "diapers" for her, mainly for overnight, but she became dependent on them and "forgot" how to go on her own. She was also very depressed. One day I went to visit at 1:30pm, and asked the front desk if we could visit in the main lounge area. Jennifer, the receptionist said that area was only for Assisted Living. Krista, (the former Activities Director and now MCD) came to the desk and said we could. She said my friend had eaten her lunch & desert and was ready for me. I went to the MC side to get my friend, and there she sat, with her head on her chest, white as a ghost, her food untouched. One of the aids said that my friend had been "playing with her food" for 1 1/2 hours. She clearly had not because the food was untouched. I have pictures. I asked if there was anyone in the Activity Room so I could take my friend in there to eat and I was told that Residents were not allowed in there to eat because the food sticks to the carpet. I told her we ate in there before, so she said ok. There is no carpet in the room. The aid came in the room and tried to make my friend sit down and friend got hysterical; not normal for her. I told the aid I could get her to sit, which I did. My friend kept mumbling that she didn't want "those ladies in here". Her head was down and her hands were on either side of her face like she was trying to protect herself. I took videos of our conversation. This just saddened me because I was afraid if I said anything, things might get worse. The Deciding Factors: (1) My friend's daughter went to pick her up for a weekend visit (daughter lives in LA) and mom had a high fever. She asked aid why no one called. Aid said, "I told them yesterday". Daughter asked nurse if mom was given aspirin or Naproxen and nurse replied mom was to be given those "PRN, or as needed)". Duh! So she did not get anything for her fever or any pain. Daughter called me, hysterical, and I asked if there was a cold, cough, etc. She said no other symptoms. I suggested that mom might have a UTI and told her to go to Clovis Community. Her mom did have a UTI & was severly dehydrated and Paintbrush should have done something. Mom had also fallen and no report was don until hours later when I insisted a nurse come and address bruises that I found, but the nurse try to dismiss all of it. (2) Daughter addressed all of her concerns with Jennifer, the ED & Krista, the new MC Director, and they acknowledged that they had several complaints from families. She gave them a chance to improve, but things got worse. Since my friend has been taken out of Paintbrush, she has gotten color back in her face, is talking and making sense again, is holding up her head, re-learned how to feed herself, and is happy and full of life. Her dementia is still very obvious, and still requires a lot of care, but she is a happy and healthy individual. Please think twice about putting your relative's life in the hands of Paintbrush; they don’t care about their Residents. My friend's daughter saved her mother's life when she took her out of Paintbrush.

We toured Paintbrush and will probably move my grandmother there, we are in the early stages of our search. This is a beautiful place, and the staff is so friendly. I met several of the Managers, and Randi spent alot of time with us. The menu is tempting, many items I would like and I know my grandmother would also. My grandmother likes to do the activities they have posted, and many residents were out and looking very happy. I enjoyed this visit very much!

My dad enjoys the atmosphere that Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care has. The staff is really good and they gave a reasonable price for him to get in. The food is good, there are lots of activities, and he is just having a great time there. They have card games, movies, happy hours every Friday afternoon, live music, treats for the residents, and they're taking the veterans, of which my dad is one of them, to the parade on Thursday. They also give them prizes if they win in their little card games/activities, and then they can trade them in with goodies afterwards. There are exercises every day, and they take them to their appointments if they need to. So, I've been so pleased with them. They also allow their residents to have pets and there's a little dog park down there for them. There's a beautiful courtyard and a pizza oven outside. Every so often they're going to do a pizza night, but I think they're still working on that right now. When you come into the facility, it's really designed from the Ahwahnee Hotel up in Yosemite. It's very pleasant and visually good.

There was nothing I didn't like at Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. It was beautiful and they allow you to have your pets. I toured the assisted living part and it was top-of-the-line for me. The place looked very comfortable and laid-back. All the people that I saw looked happy too. Randy, the person who took me around, was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She made you feel like family. They had a salon, pool, a garden area, and lots of eating places. The outside area is beautiful. I just wish they had Medi-Cal.

Thank you Darlene, it was a pleasure meeting you and chatting about quality of life for your loved one. We appreciate your wonderful review!

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was big. It serves a lot more residents and the facilities were very, very nice. They have lots to offer as far as activities and living rooms. The residents were busy playing when we were there, and there's a lot of participation. It is a gorgeous facility. The staff that we met was very, very nice. They have gardens out there in the exterior that the residents have planted and tend to. It was a lot of fun. The other plus was they have an area for dogs and cats that the residents can bring their animals with them. That's a really cool benefit too. My mom doesn't have a dog, so it wouldn't help her out. She does have a giant tortoise. We met a lady that was out in the courtyard that had her dog with her, and so that's very, very nice. We didn't go to the memory care side because they had an outbreak. We just stayed in the assisted living, but Randi said they're both set up and offer the same. They have courtyards and gardens as well. They've been green all the way through this whole COVID ordeal that we've been through. They need to do one more testing to keep things safe for their residents, just to make sure it stayed that way.

Provider Response

Thank you Carolyn for this wonderful review. Out of an abundance of caution, we were limiting visitors in Memory Care. We continue to take every precaution mandated by the CDC and have no Covid in our community. Appreciate your kind words!

My father has moved into Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. We have chosen it because of the price, the beauty of the facility, and the friendliness of the staff. It was a combination of the three. The staff is extremely friendly, caring, and very engaging with residents and their family. The food is outstanding. I've eaten there. They have activities like bingo and people coming in, and they have family dinner nights.

We went and toured Paintbrush in Fresno. I talked to Wendy, and she showed us around. She showed us a studio apartment that has two closets, a big bedroom, a big bathroom, and it's own little kitchen. It has a room for a card table too. My brother likes to use cards and stuff like that. The staff was wonderful. They have a courtyard and out in the courtyard they have a pizza maker; it's an oven. They get to cook pizza outdoors. In the room that I picked for my brother, they just put the carpet in and redid it. I also looked at the menu, and it looks pretty good. Also if my brother doesn't like their food, he can pick a hotdog or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Provider Response

Thank you Rolaine, we appreciate you and your family being part of our Paintbrush family!

I enjoyed seeing Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. The only thing that surprised me was that the lady showed me every room, every amenity, and every type of care they offer, including a closed unit for people with memory problems. The other places I went to, they gave me lunch, but in this place they didn't offer that. So I didn't get to really see what their meals are like. They have things that are extra that you can pick up if you just want a snack. They have really nice things. The community is well laid out and they have a nice view outside. It looks like a pleasant place. The one staff member greeted me and another one took me on the tour. They were pleasant and I enjoyed meeting them. They have a lot of activities and they have invited me to come back for a luncheon.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care was wonderful. I was really impressed by it. It's rather new and easy to access. One of my daughters lives in Merced and one lives in Madera and they could just hop on the highway and be right there. It's just barely a block off the highway on the right. They had the two facilities, but I didn't get to tour the memory one. They had a menu out for the whole month on the bulletin board and had samples of the food. All the things they had were outstanding. They had a barista in their cafe where they had coffee, drinks, fruit, and little sandwiches available all day long. They had a great activities room, which was huge. They can have their animals there. They had an outside play yard for the animals where they can sit with them. The staff during the tour was great. The food looked well balanced and good.

Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care just had a rate reduction because they're trying to get the occupancy rate a little bit higher. The food is excellent, the places are kept up, and the caregivers are very personable. I wouldn't mind going there at all. There are so many things to stimulate their brain and they take them on outings for gambling, movies, and shopping.

My mother was at Paintbrush Assisted Living and Memory Care. Her room was very nice. It's set up like a studio apartment. It had a sink, a refrigerator, and a very roomy bathroom. It was a very nice facility. Most of the staff members were good. A few of them looked peculiar, like they never did a bed bath before or wasn't sure how to do a bedpan, which was a little annoying, but the majority knew what they were doing. A lot of them complained about the food. They had a library, a craft room, a room where you could do basic exercises, and they had a dog run for the residents who have pets because they allow small dogs. They would take them on field trips or take them to the store on certain days of the week. They had a hairstylist on-site. The facility was well kept. A lot of the residents enjoyed the activities. They had bingo, crafts, and once a week somebody came in and did dancing lessons with the residents.

Paintbrush is excellent. We love everything about it. It's cheaper but beautiful. They care for memory loss. They help my ex-husband take a shower, bring a newspaper to him every day, and have bingo and all kinds of things. The food is really good. There is a barbecue out front. On Sunday, there was a live band and car show, and all the families were invited and got to eat for free. It was really nice.

I am living at Paintbrush and I really like it. It's very well-run, open, and friendly, very attractive, the food and staff are good and there's plenty to do. The big thing here is bingo, but there are also game nights. They also go on shopping trips and go out to restaurants every week. They have a good activity room and a really nice patio and a bistro.
