I am so grateful that this unit exists. We were trying to care for my mom at home and just didn't have enough hours in the day to juggle her caretakers, medicine, and house upkeep not to mention our own lives and jobs. The care givers in Life Guidance are ALWAYS warm and kind to her which requires a lot of patience. My sister and I have the comfort of knowing that she is getting her medicine and a lot of attention and is physically very well cared for. Mom really enjoys when there are special activities and the ability to go to lunch with us in both the dining room and out in town. This is a perfect place for our mom.

Atria Covell Gardens' independent living is a smaller area and it's within the same building rather than a separate housing type situation. And there's a charge to have a parking space and extra storage if you need it. They have a separate type of place where you can get snacks and you could go there and get part of your dinner, so you're not getting the whole thing. I felt that some of the things that were available were a little bit more appealing since it is a university city. They have some classes and speakers available. The day we were there, they were going to have a choir come in. In terms of activities, there were gyms, a library, and a hairdresser. The staff who gave the tour was very friendly and very helpful. She took us around and introduced us to some people as we walked around. She answered all our questions. They were very receptive and very helpful. The apartments were contained in a multi-story building, and they were significantly smaller in space than the ones at the other place, and yet the price was higher. If I find that physically I may need more care, then probably that would be the place I would go.

I went to Atria Covell Gardens. The condition of the property, the friendliness of the staff, and just the overall experience were good. The facility was clean, orderly, and very pleasant. It was a very nice place to hang out in. I could see that people were happy there, and very friendly. The staff was friendly with everybody. The dining area was clean. It looks like a restaurant-style. Everybody seemed content. And the staff was nice. They seemed to be moving around. People were enjoying themselves, so it looked pleasant. They have amenities and services like a movie theater and a hair salon. They have a podiatrist that comes in. It just seems like if I were to go live in a place, I'd want to go live there.

The tour we had at Atria Covell Gardens was fine. The community was fine. The people were nice. We were close enough to signing a contract, but they told us that we didn't qualify. The food was great. We were very happy with it. My wife and I were on a restricted diet, and they accommodated my wife's diet without skins or seeds. I have lactose intolerance, and they were very careful about not having any cheese. They tried to help us; they did fine. So what we saw was fine.

Our visit was great. Information was great. Location even greater. We left our information and estimated that we might be ready in mid march. Then in mid March we were notified an apartment was available and we started making plans for sale of our home and estate sale etc. When we were meeting with the movers we received a call from Atria saying they looked at "their notes" and said sorry.we did not qualify due to my wife's medical condition. We had told them during out visit of her medical condition which we have handled at home for 3 years but Needless to say this has put us in a difficult position. We thought we had the perfect place and were making plans and were delivered a punch in the gut. This could have been handled better. from a 5 star to a 2 star

Atria Covell Gardens was an impressive facility. It's very immaculate. The staff there was extremely, extremely kind, respectful, and courteous. They were very understanding of the situation, so they were phenomenal folks. I honestly wish we had the opportunity to get to work with them again. The facilities were beyond what I expected, like the room condition and the activities. It really presented an incredible experience for my grandmother. They have the resources there to help her with mobility issues. They're very, very well equipped to handle pretty much any situation that may come up. It was really unfortunate not to be able to give her that experience, but given her stage, we're trying to do what's best for her for now. They seem to have a pretty comprehensive menu option. The dining common area was very well kept. It was very communal. It didn't feel like you just walked into a static cafeteria. It felt very homey and they did a really good job of creating a sense of familiarity, like being in an actual home as opposed to a facility.

Atria is truly a god send for our mother. She is in life guidance (memory care). While it was the hardest decision to make when it came time that she could no longer function without 24/7 care, we are very comforted that she is in the best care giving environment. She has been at Atria for 3 years and everyone has given her the love and quality of life she deserves. Thank you Atria !

My Mom has lived at Atria Covell Gardens for 7 years, the last 3 in memory care. The best thing about Atria is the dedicated and caring staff! I think they do an exceptional job of hiring people who genuinely care about an elder population. They are patient, gentle, caring, respectful, and kind.

Dej’ja the director of the memory care unit and her staff have provided excellent care for my Mom. It is evident how much they care about her and have been kind and compassionate beyond compare. They have provided support and suggestions for our family as we have traveled this journey with Mom.

I would move into Atria Covell Gardens if I need it. It's a newer facility. They have a lot of activities and friendly people. They had a nice dining hall. I've eaten there a couple of times with friends who are living there. The staff members are pretty good, too. Once in a while, they need to work on having somebody at the front desk a little bit more. They try hard, and they've been helpful. I think it's one of the better places I've ever seen. The upkeep is good. They make sure that the residents have their medicine on time. They have a full library and a movie room. They have a whole bunch of activities for them. They have a little banjo group come in and entertain them in the dining hall. They have musical things, different book clubs, and poker. They are busy all the time.

Our experience with Atria Covell Gardens has been good. My father-in-law moved in there in January, and although we don't get to go in and see the place at this point, it seems like it's going well for him. He's in memory care, and we've asked him about the food. I don't know how accurate it is, but he seems to say that it's OK. My brother-in-law has actually been doing more communication with the staff, but as far as I know, the staff has been good, too. They have different activities during the day; for example, they just had a Valentine's Day party. They also have cookie decorating and more.

I moved into Atria Covell Gardens. The rooms are nice and large. Because of COVID, I have to stay in the room. I live where everybody can pretty well take care of themselves with the exception of medications. The food is pretty good, they cook whatever it is that you're eating most of the time, nothing is pre-cooked. It's a little different than getting TV dinners. Like the other night we had pulled pork and bean sprout things, and potatoes fresh-cooked. They have little exercise things, they have a hair place, a salon. It's comfortable and adequate. I have a good-sized room, a bedroom, bathroom, a little living room, and the kitchen. The staff is nice, pleasant, competent, and they do a good job.

I visited Atria Covell Gardens. They didn't let me see much. There was mostly an exterior walk around. They let me look at one or two of the apartments, but I couldn't go in to like the internal hallways to check out the rest of the facility. The tour felt really rushed. And surprisingly, there was no one around in there at the front lobby community area. So, it was a little eerie. Although I feel it was clean, maybe some porch inside the place looked a little dated, like the hallways just in front of the apartment. The exterior looked pretty up-to-date and clean. The only thing I saw was an outdoor gazebo, I saw like a lobby or maybe like a ballroom where they have their dining services. Because I was there for lunch time, there was nobody around.

Atria Covell Gardens was absolutely beautiful. The residents there were mostly independent seniors, and the community was vibrant. They offered so many trips. There are so many reasons why I'm going to live there. They had their own little library, and I can't say enough about it. I loved, most of all, the community itself and the people who live there. When I walked into Atria, it's like I walked into my dreamland. I met so many incredibly joyous people. Some residents had been there for 15 years.

There were several things about Atria Covell Gardens. For one thing, it’s a rental; you don’t buy in, but it doesn’t have all of the care services that we think we would want to have as we get older. The food was fair and the apartments were very outdated; they needed upgrading. The grounds were beautiful, and I liked that it was very close to a little shopping mall.

Atria was a pleasant community with a lot of amenities for the elder people and a nice staff. The interior was fairly worn and old, like the cabinetry. I would expect it to be updated for the amount of money that they’re getting. The staff impressed me the most.

Atria Covell Gardens was very good and seemed to have a lot of activities, but it was more hotel-like. They had a very nice common dining room and living quarters. The atmosphere was very positive, and the residents seemed very happy. The layout was good.

My uncle lives in Atria Covell Gardens. He moves there because it will closer to where I live, and I want a facility that has lots of opportunities to do things; that one did. I think he will enjoy it. I think the staff has been very good. He is in a private room. It seems to be adequate. It is a one-bedroom with a little kitchen area. It seems to be fine; I wish they have more of a handicap bathroom. He does not need it yet, but there is going to be a point that he does, and I don't know if they offer too many handicap bathrooms. I ate there today with him. The food is generally good, and the dining area is also very good. They have groups with interests. He always likes the opera and the symphony. They have music and local people come in to perform for the seniors there. They have cards and all that kind of stuff. They have memory game type groups and craft groups, and they show movies a couple of nights a week. They go on day trips. Everything is clean, and the people seem professional.

I think the environment at The Atria was good and very different. It’s a little bit busier, a little bit more crowded. It didn’t feel like a home but more like a pass- through environment where people come and go often.

Atria Covell Gardens was nicer than the ones we have looked at. My mother's room was the deciding factor. It was very spacious, and we were able to decorate it. She is very happy. The service is excellent, and they are always available for your needs. They're amazing. I would like to live there myself. Her room is wonderful. Everything is new and really nice. The service in the dining room is amazing. You can get anything you want all day. Their meals are fabulous, and she loves the food.

We just recently moved her into the Atria, and it is wonderful. We'd used the Atria before for my husband's parents, and we liked the way they ran it. I thought the staff was great. The staff is really good with her. They're very patient, very helpful, and the facility seems really nice. The rooms are typical. It's just a square room. Everyone has a shared bathroom, which really would not be my first choice. It's just very clean. We're very satisfied with them.

My dad is doing very well at Atria Covell Gardens. We chose this facility for him because he really likes it. They actually do very well with him. Right now, the staff is providing him with medication help and bathing. They made a big effort to know who he is. Then they made a big effort to know who I am, so that they can talk to me. I would get emails from them regarding my dad. They're very sweet. They look after him. I really feel comfortable with him being there. He has his moments because he misses Mom but he is starting to live again which I thought was really important. Food is very good. They are served restaurant-style. You can go in anywhere from 7 am to 7 pm and there's no specific time of day that you have to go in. They have two specials that you can choose from or they'll feed you anything you want to eat apartment from their specials. I like that. They also have lots of activities for their residents. They would bring in a lot of music, etc. For accommodation, my dad has an apartment with a separated bedroom. He has a living room area that moves into a tiny kitchen. He has a refrigerator and a dining table. He has a king-size bed in the bedroom, a big dresser, a big walk-in closet, and a nice-sized bathroom which had a regular tub, but because my dad has issues, they did a cut out for him and it didn't cost me any extra. It's very nice. His apartment is a little older but it's very spacious, very clean and well taken care of.

Caring.com gave me a list of facilities and Atria was one of them, so we visited this place. The entrance way and the opening lobby was beautiful with fresh flowers. I thought the grounds were modest but pleasant. I didn't really care for the location very much because it was in a busy street. For the price, I was a little underwhelmed, but the facility was beautiful and really nice. Also the actual room that my mother would be living in was underwhelming. It was cheaply appointment, small, and there was no outdoor space. There were nice people roaming around the facility and they seemed to be more alert. There were a lot of retired professionals that were there, so there was a nice caliber of residents actually living there. I also saw that they have like coffee and snacks for their residents. Their staff was more slick than the others we saw. The lady who took me on a tour was lovely and the receptionist there was nice. There were also more people doing things, like seeking out to help the residents and the visitors. They were very nice to me but I didn't think that this facility was worth going to Davis, it didn't appeal to me enough so that would be the one I would choose.

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent visit. We are so glad that you considered our community as an option for your mother, and I am very sorry that we were not able to accommodate her. It’s wonderful to hear that you were pleased with the community overall, its residents and staff. I am sorry you did not find the apartment size to be adequate for your mother. With so many activities to engage in and lovely residents to commune with, we encourage more time spent outside of the apartments, taking advantage of all the thoughtfully planned activities and lovely common spaces Atria Covell Gardens has to offer. I visited Atria Covell. It has all the amenities anybody could dream of. It's got a beautiful chandelier at the front. I had the opportunity to speak with a lot of the residents and asked them, "If you had your choice would you be here?", and it was kind of a 50/50 split. The facility is expensive, but I think for the amount of money, you are getting an incredible deal especially with what's available out there. You get more care here at Atria Covell and a better-looking place. I looked at their apartment, my favorite was a double room which again not what I expected. I kind of expected it to be like a small apartment with two bedrooms to the side in another room, but that's not what you get. You get two bedrooms attached by one bathroom which would make sense in those places because they want you out of your room I guess. They have a huge dining room with a real menu and real choices of food every single day. It's like a regular restaurant. You can go in at any point in time when you want to eat. I did eat there and it was delicious. You can actually order another food if you don't like the food being served. I find that you are paying for what you are getting. The more you pay the more services you will get.

What I didn't like about Atria Covell Gardens is that mom has dementia and this facility is new in that aspect although mom is not yet in a dementia unit but I know she will be. It's also a multi story unit as well and I don't like mom would be using stairs or elevators. And the other part I didn't like was the parking unit. They do not have enough parking spots for the visitors.
Provider Response
Thank you for your review. I would like to assure you that our Life Guidance memory care neighborhood has very well-trained and caring staff who engage with the residents to encourage them to participate to their full potential. This area of our community has been open for nearly a year now and our residents and their families seem quite pleased with what we offer. I understand your concern about the stairs and elevators. Family members of residents with mild memory impairments can request an escort to meals and events, and residents in the Life Guidance neighborhood have their own dining room and events nearby. Someone will always be with those residents if they need to use the elevator for any reason. I apologize for the parking accommodations and I will be sure to share your review with the right staff who can evaluate the issue and determine if improvements can be made. If we can answer further questions, please contact us at customerservice@atriaseniorliving.com and please include the Atria community name in the subject line.

I have never seen so many seniors with smiles on their face. Especially in an assisted living facility. All of the current residents are full of life and very active. The facility itself offer various amennities. Everything from a cyber cafe style lounge. To gaming clubs. There is definetly not a shortage of entertainment. I would gladly place either myself and or my family members in this facility if it ever was necessary. The staff was also impeccable. If I had to determine the largest attribute to the warm atmosphere of Atria Gardens I would credit the staff. Not only are the staff members well educated and professional but their bed side manner is above reproach. Most nursery home staffers can tend to be a little condescending or frustrated while performing their duties, however that is certainly not the case with Atria Covell Gardens. Overall I would give this establishment an 8 out of 10.

The residents seemed happy and upbeat, the facility was extremely well kept, and the staff were attentive. Providing an event like this for residents really excited the residents, and they enjoyed speaking with my sorority members and I. While this type of event is not a normal occurrence at this facility, it speaks volumes that the staff would put together an event like this for its residents.

Beautiful Facility, Friendly staff and lots of activities for assisted living residents that don't need a lot of care. Memory care unit is under staffed and only checks on residents that are in there rooms every three hours.

This assisted living facility is like a cruise ship on land. There's often live music playing in the foyer when you walk in the door and pass through the large, sunny entryway. It's very appealing and welcoming. The décor and furniture are very upper crust: colorful, plush and comfy. Upstairs, there's an open space used for exercise and dance classes, along with a room for movies and videos. The activities coordinator has a great knack for finding engaging things for the residents to do"”especially educational activities. A local artist comes in to lead art sessions, which are wildly popular, and the facility offers a bus that takes people to appointments and on field trips. Also, the public bus system, with a stop about a block away, is very convenient"”and a grocery store and several restaurants are also nearby. The downside of the location is that it's a bit far afield from downtown, but that may be a blessing in disguise, since the downtown area can be a bit hectic when school is in session. The dining hall is set up like a high-end restaurant, the tables set with linens and serviced by waiters. Many choices are available daily"”and the chef recently hired there has really bumped up the quality of the food served. The housing is in studio and one or two-bedroom apartments, which come furnished if desired. They are all a good size. All the residents seem to be happy and friendly. The staff is also friendly"”giving off a warm feeling when you walk in. And there seems to be an adequate number of people on staff. Most residents get the care they need from a medical facility across the street. Atria Covell Gardens might be the best fit for those who are ambulatory, relatively healthy and active. One limitation may be the cost, which is on the high end for the area. -The reviewer, Jillian Winchester-Ebeling, is a human service professional in Davis, California.
