Carmel Valley Manor was very nice. The grounds were well-appointed, and the staff was good. We had an opportunity to talk with some of the residents and have lunch there. The food was very good. Everything there was excellent . We got a full tour of what they had available, and it was very nice.

I retired early in the 1960 and chose with my wife to seek the adventures and lifestyle we never had had time for. Because we were young we wanted to find a home that provided us a physically active life and chose for the best times of our lives a large Country Club Retirement Community in Palm Desert. 2 golf courses, 16 tennis cours, 23 swimming pools, large fitness center and activities rooms, two dining rooms, both a formal and casual environment, truthfully the greatest times of our young lives. And if we weren't hunkered down at our Club we travelled extensively. But as we grew older we found the desert heat a bit too much to take and decided to seek a location on which we often summered...that in Carmel. Used to community living we were attracted to the Active Residential Community known as Del Mesa. And we moved to another experience we alos thoroughly enjoyed and probaby would never have moved had I not had a heart attack. And seeking a community that provided both an active life but also a life care program that would assured both of us for the remainder of our lives and still kept us in the Carmel Area we moved to the Carmel Valley Manor. While all the preceding moves were most acceptable the move to the Manor has been the best of them all. We have enjoyed the wonderful cultural, educational, recreational and social life anyone could imagine. The activities here are certainly not at the physical level we enjoyed during the earlier years of our lives, but perfect here for our aging years. Looking back both my wife and I can truthfully boast that we think we've planned the best and most fulfilling years for our retirement. Funny, we don't think we're through yet...that's the spirit that living on the Manor campus does for you.

My parents decided to sell their home and move to the Manor in 1998. It was one of the best decisions they ever made. The quality of everything in this facility is top notch and when my father came down with Alzheimer's the nursing staff were incredible. Over the years of his disease, right up to his death, he was given the absolute best and most compassionate care imaginable. The staff truly cares about their residents. And for most illnesses that do not require actual full time hospital care they have onsite medical care all the way through Hospice so there is no need for the ill person to be in separate facility. Like all the services offered the residents, the dining room is excellent.

My wife and I moved into Carmel Valley Manor three years ago and it was the best decision we could have made. We were relatively young, 67 and 72, but we decided that it was important for us to find a place where we could live for the rest of our life in a secure and active community. We were impressed with the beauty of Carmel Valley, the sunny weather and close proximity to all of the attractions of the Monterey Peninsula. What became more apparent after our move in was the amazing sense of community and love of life that fills our lives here. The residents are active with a multitude of sports, games, special musical events, concerts, fascinating guest speakers, continuing education, painting, weaving, photography, plays, trips to local and bay area cultural events and many, many more. We are never bored and have made many friends which we cherish. We realize, that as we get older everything is in place for us to stay active and independent and when we need assistance it is always available. Equally important, our children are happy that they don't have to worry about us, can visit and stay in the on site guest units and will never be burdened with the trauma of trying to find a place for us in the event of stroke, or other major disabling illness, We like the fact that all facilities, independent, assisted care and the Skilled Nursing Facilities are all co-located allowing spouses who may be recuperating from treatment to take meals and visit together without worrying about transportation to an off site facility. I guess to sum it up. They seem to have thought about everything. Even the staff is like family, providing loving and attentive service every day. For us it's a great value and source of peace for our future.

Carmel Valley Manor provides independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Residents are only admitted into independent living and they must pass a physical evaluation. The life care contract establishes fees based on the type of living accommodation selected. These accommodations range from studio apartments, through various designs of two bedroom apartments, to multi-bedroom homes. The fees do not change when a move to assisted living or skilled nursing is needed. However, there are carefully managed increases in cost based on inflation in operating costs. The Manor offers an extraordinary level of assurance that life’s risks will be minimized, your life can be filled with activities of your choosing, you will be surrounded by interesting and supportive friends, there is an excellent cuisine served by professional and attentive waiters, housekeeping services are meticulous, and that you have immediate access to top level healthcare resources. When analyzed in the context of the cost of long term healthcare insurance, the size of your pension, or investment income that may be required to provide comfort and safety for the rest of your life, Carmel Valley Manor will generally be the low cost option with the minimum risk.
