We're going back to Emerald Court with my mom to see if she likes it. The whole environment inside was very calm and comforting. My tour was great. The staff who gave the tour was wonderful. I had a glimpse of their gym. With regards to location, it's near my mom's medical clinic.

I visited Emerald Court. Their staff was very friendly, and she took me on a tour. The reason why I visited them first is because this is closer to the house where I used to live. Also, about 20 years ago, my in-law was there for spending two months in the wintertime, so, I knew of them. When I went there, everything was clean and so nice. Pricewise it is very reasonable and not that high if I compare it with other places. The room I was interested in was a one-bedroom. They have three meals provided, and the kitchen is small, but I understand why it is small. Also, I saw their calendar and they have something every day. It's very attractive there too. My English is limited and the staff who talked to me the first time understood me and was very patient with me. She explained everything slowly and patiently. I was so impressed with her business attitude. Also, I told my friends who are my age about them, and then they wanted to see the inside, so I went there a couple of times with my friends. Each time, they offer lunch and something to eat, so that's the best. We had a sandwich, it was good. I asked a resident at that time if they liked the food, they were Asians, and they said the food was Western type. Because of their food program, their food has less salt, and that's why not everybody is satisfied with it, but I understand. The facility is clean everywhere and everybody is so friendly, even the staff and the caregivers.

Provider Response

Etsuko, Thanks for the feedback. We here at Emerald Court work hard to make every experience a good one.

Emerald Court was very nice. It seemed to be very well-kept and clean. The person I met with was very attentive to my questions and responses. She even took me to lunch at one of their cafes, and the meal was very good. She gave me a full tour of everything. The woman took me on my tour (I'm not sure what her position was) and it seemed to be one of the main things that she did. When we went to the cafe, there was something wrong with the door, and she was on the phone instantly to get the maintenance people to take care of it, so obviously they stay on top of making certain that everything is in good working order. Other than just getting the tour and seeing the things that were available, they seemed to have plenty of things to do there, and they had a calendar that would show you what was available that day.

I was very impressed with Emerald Court. Everyone seemed happy and socially engaged. The staff were helpful, pleasant, and courteous. Their rooms seemed pretty much the same as the others, but the thing that struck me the most was when we got there at 4:00, they were all sitting around waiting for happy hour. So many people were out and about. People weren't shut in their rooms and that's what I liked to see, that they were socializing.

Emerald Court looked like a newer facility, very clean. They have a lot of options when it comes to libraries. They had more than one food choice, like a bistro that my mom could choose, so we liked that. The grounds were nice, rooms were nice. The staff was professional. They have fitness rooms. I believe they have a salon for hair and stuff like that.

Emerald Court was very nice, and it is independent living too. A lot of places are just assisted living. I was very impressed because they showed me an apartment, a 1-bedroom apartment, 550 square feet, and it was very nice. It has lots of closet spaces and a wonderful small full kitchen. A lot of places don't have that. It's $3,300 a month, and that's really reasonable. When it comes to having a pet, there's this one place I heard about; they need $500 one time and then $25 a month for it. Emerald doesn't do that. There's no upfront fee to have a pet. They have a nice little dog park there. They have memory care and assisted care, on top of the independent living. It's very nice. They have a full-time 24-hour kitchen for dining, and a little bistro. It was very impressive. I like independent living because that's really what I'm looking for. Emerald Court didn't really have individual yards for people. I think there was one section for assisted living that did, but the yard was really tiny.

I like Emerald Court. As soon as I walked in, it felt airy, and I felt confident about the place. The staff is very cordial. I got a plate to take home after the tour, and it was good. The facility's layout was also nice and clean. There were people outside having a little bird-feeding party, and everybody kind of acknowledged you.

My overall experience at Emerald Court was wonderful. It was great. I met a whole bunch of people. They took time to talk to me. It was very nice. I looked at one room and it overlooked the parking lot, which I knew my mother wouldn't like. It was also on the second floor. I asked if they had a first floor and she said in 30 days they were going to have one. We went down, and it had a little atrium off the sliding glass door. When you come out the front door, you'll see a beautiful courtyard. They're going to remodel the room. They're very amenable, giving us a $2,000 moving cost, and I'm hoping my mother is going to like it. I met the chef who has been there for 27 years, and before I left he brought me two big, homemade cookies from the kitchen. Everything is pretty comparable because they have a menu that you could choose from. Most of the places have two entrees, but they only have one entree, and then you can pick something else from the menu like sandwiches, hamburgers, and stuff like that. Their dining room is pretty plain. I told my mother it wasn't as fancy as the one she's in. They're going to open up their dining room next week. Yesterday, when we were there, they were playing bingo separated with their masks on. At least they have some activities, which my mother is not getting right now.

My mother didn't like Emerald Court because she didn't need it. She was paying all this money and never used any of the activities and never went to the dining hall. Her apartment was really beautiful and had kitchens in each apartment, so she cooked her own food. It was a beautiful community. They had a gym, balloon volleyball, karaoke and movie night, concerts, beautiful outdoor area for barbecues, Hawaiian night, and all kinds of activities. The place was very clean and very lovely. The grounds were very pretty, they had very nice views, and had transportation. They tried to make everybody happy. The staff was really nice and wonderful. The administration, the nursing, and maintenance guys were really nice. The food was institutional, but they had these lovely brunches.

We have chosen Emerald Court. I liked the appearance. The place was superb. I thought it was a great place for me. The people were very friendly. They came up, introduced themselves, and made me feel at home. Even though I haven't moved in, they welcomed me to join them. It was a warm, friendly place. The room had a kitchenette with a two-burner stove and an oven, two bedrooms, two baths, a living room, and two great storage closets. We had a lunch there, and the food was delicious. My son, daughter-in-law, and my granddaughter thought it was great. The chef came over to meet us and introduced himself. The waiter was unbelievable, too.

Emerald Court was the first one that I went to, and it is one where I know a couple of people who are there and who are happy with it. I know they don’t have memory care because the one lady who is there from my church moved in with her husband, and it was just too much change for him. He was getting Alzheimer’s and had declined pretty rapidly, and she had to put him somewhere else because Emerald Court does not offer memory care. My aunt is a bit dingy, and I don’t know that she is going to need memory care, but it seemed like a good idea to put her somewhere they had it so that it would be less of a transition if she needed to go into it. I thought their apartments were really nice. They were clean, modern, and up-to-date, granite countertops, and there was a built-in bookcase. I did have lunch there, and the food was OK. The negative to me was if you needed to go from independent to assisted, then you’d have to move units.

We did visit Emerald Court, but we didn’t like it. The people were very nice, but it was not good. It was kind of old and outdated. It didn’t feel home-like. It’s too close to a neighborhood street, and I don't think it’s a good neighborhood. Also, they were actually $6000 a month, so they were even more than the other place. I was really disappointed in the pricing, and then their food was awful, but we ate it anyway. The people seemed happy, but they were drinking wine. My mom’s friend at church liked it, but my mom and I weren’t feeling it at all.

Compared to the other places that I looked at, Emerald Court has substantial storage with a walk-in closet, and the living room had a cabinet where people could put some of the nice things they brought from home. Emerald Court had crown molding in the rooms, it had ample storage, and actually had a better kitchenette than anybody that we saw, with a granite kitchen top and a full-size refrigerator. My mom’s been there for almost a year, and it truly is a very exceptional place. They take care and accommodate my mom very well. My mom doesn’t really go for activities, although they are offering her dog services with a charge, and she is doing some exercises in an exercise room. They have happy hours and entertainment about every three months where they’ll bring in a band combo or a chorus, so they do have constant activities happening there.

Emerald Court was very nice. It has easy access because they have two elevators. We had lunch there, and it was too much for us. They showed us an apartment and told us about all the activities they have -- such as bridge, all kinds of card games, karaoke once in awhile, and craft games. I was so impressed with this facility. When we are ready to move into a senior facility, we will be moving here.

My mom has greatly improved at Emerald Court. Her room is very charming and comfortable; they redid everything before she moved in. The staff is excellent. Overall, it’s a wonderful place, and I wouldn’t mind living there.

It was more lively. They had a lot more things going for people that were more active. The rooms were very nice, but they didn't have a room on the ground floor available, and my relative wanted the ground floor. The ones that we had looked at had pets. She has a little Chihuahua, and that was one of the things that we had to keep in mind when we were looking for a place. They had a lot of activities there, and they would have a movie night where family and friends could come; also, they were having a Hawaiian night. They were really outgoing at Emerald Court. We did not eat there, but it looked really good, and the dining area was very nice.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We have lived in Emerald Court for six years. The staff is very caring. The rooms are very large, and they are doing a lot of remodeling right now. The food is delicious. The dining room is clean, but it is not very spacious. They need more room because they are almost 90% full right now. They have pretty much anything you want for activities. They have games, a recreation center, and a wellness facility where we have different kinds of equipment to work out on. They have activities that they will take you to. As far as I can tell, everything is OK. The place is very welcoming.

My mom moved in 9 months ago. The improvement in her health is tremendous. She has made friends and is very active with activities, exercising, going places and attending programs. There is enough to do that she is not bored. She is happy and glad she made the move. Her 1 bedroom place fits her well and she loves the location. The staff is always helpful, they know the residents and go out of their way to be nice.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My sister found Emerald Court, and I just think the people are very nice. It came highly recommended by another person whose parent lives there. It's clean, it's close to home, and the price is good. My mom is very happy there. They have good food, good service. It's a very, very lovely place. I wish they had a little more activity. Mom wanted to play bridge, but there aren't enough people to have another group, so she's out of luck. Her one love is bridge, and she's unable to play, so that's kind of disappointing because one of the major things we wanted is for her to be able to play bridge twice a week, and they're full. She has her own apartment. Her bed looks small in the room. There's so much room. I stayed one day, and it was lovely, and they were very accommodating. The first week, they let me stay free, but if you go, it's $10 a meal. The food is excellent. What's really neat about them is their kitchen is always open. You can go anytime you want 24 hours a day, but there are certain things you cannot have at all times. They always have sandwiches, or if they want ice cream, or if they want a grilled cheese sandwich or a turkey sandwich, but not like when they do their prime rib or their special lasagnas. You can't get those in the middle of the night, but they always have coffee, tea, and juices there for them. They are always free to go and sit there anytime. We chose Emerald Court because they call us. They let us know if Mom is out roaming the halls. They take pictures to show us that she really is at the party. She'll say she didn't go to any party. Then we'll see pictures on their website. She is right there, having fun, and you can see she's laughing. You always have access, and they have a website you can always go on, and it's neat. They're open 24 hours. I can go in anytime I want, and everyone is saying hi to each other. It's beautiful. They know their people by name, and I'm very, very impressed. My mom's place is much nicer and bigger. a 1-bedroom apartment with huge closet space. She has her own patio for her dog. Her front door opens out to this big, green, garden-like court. It's about a quarter of a football field. They have umbrella chairs and lots of trees. Her front window with her kitchen looks right out into this beautiful water fountain. It's gorgeous. I wouldn’t mind living there. I wish it had a pool. I would use a pool, however they are elderly and they may not use a pool. They're having an Internet café-type computer spot, and they're changing the front lobby where they can go, read, and use the Internet.

The staff were very friendly, thoughtful, and appeared to know all individuals who lived there on a first name basis. The staff also recognized family members who visited on a regular schedule. The food was good, and many opportunities for extra activities were provided. The only negative was that the rooms seemed to be slightly neglected. I am not sure how often the rooms were cleaned but more frequently would have been better.

This is a nice facility. They offer studios, one bedroom, and two bedroom places. The person I visited picked a one bedroom place, as she lives by herself but she likes to host guests so having the living room separate from the bedroom is nice. There are plenty of amenities inside the location, including a kitchen, bathroom, and climate control. When a resident doesn't want to be independent, they can also rely on the services at the facility. The facility has a dining hall, which can serve special-order meals; this is helpful, especially for patients that have special conditions like diabetes. The facility also has transportation service, so it's possible for residents to get to the hospital or the grocery store without inconveniencing their friends or family. Their are also personal assistants assigned to groups of individuals that will help with daily tasks such as making sure medication is taking at the right time and in the right dosage, the rooms are cleaned, etc. Overall, it seems like my congregation member and the other residents at this facility are very happy.

It has all the amenities that they need and it's a very well kept ground. They have very friendly and very caring staff. It's topnotch. I would recommend this place. They're going to be renovating to be a little bit more modern, so I would say to just continue on their plan to renovate.

I visited this facility

We went to visit the Emerald Court assisted living facility since we happened to be in the vicinity looking at other places to consider for our aunt. The grounds looked well tended and maintained, with plenty of nice shrubs, trees and places to sit to enjoy the outside. Some of the residents participate in the community gardens. The foyer was fresh and bright with very nice decorations and furniture. The common areas were nicely decorated and home-like. There were many places for residents to enjoy a variety of activities, from games to reading and seeing films and educational programs. Events and outings scheduled include anything you can imagine - from restaurants, to art museums, the library, which our uncle particularly enjoys, to local films and crafts, fine dining and theater. The also host monthly birthday parties for residents at the facility which they encourage friends and family to attend. The exercise center includes daily yoga and aerobics exercise classes. The equipment is available throughout the day and they also offer instruction on DVD. Residents can also safely navigate the lovely garden pathways and courtyards. The dining areas were nicely designed and warm. Residents may choose communal dining or more private situations. There are places for them to visit with families, as well. The food looked deliciously prepared, as well as nutritious. The dietician and chef changes up the menu to keep it interesting and encourage resident to make suggestions. The private living spaces featured beautiful windows with a fresh, airy and calming décor and very comfortable furnishings. The staff appeared to make every effort to ensure that the residents were both safe and comfortable in this living environment.

My father is staying at Emerald Court now... he has been there for over two years... I cannot say enough about their professionalism, their caring ways. He is busy with the "arts" physical activities, cognitive activities and "field trips" Emerald Court cares about my father.... if the management feels I need has a question or feels I need to be informed about something regarding my father I am contacted imediately. I have eaten in the dinning room with my father many times and the food and service are perfect.
