I visited this facility

I toured the Oakmont of Mariner Point. It's beautiful and in a beautiful neighborhood, overlooking the water. I'm not choosing it because they don't have enough level of care. Janet and Charles are great. They gave a gift bag like a box of cookies but no sampling of meals. They didn't even show me rooms. I only talked to them and the dining room, they didn't show me. Maybe there wasn't a room that was clean at that moment. I don't know. I don't care, I didn't need to see the room because I knew it wasn't appropriate.

Provider Response

Hi Malou, thank you for leaving us this feedback about your visit. We appreciate you taking the time.

I visited this facility

We went to Oakmont of Mariner Point. The tour was really good. It's a beautiful facility. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable. They're nice people. The floor plans were very nice. I saw probably three different floor plans and they all looked nice. They were bright. They had windows and nice views and things like that. I saw a studio and a one-bedroom. They had excursions for the seniors. They had a gym, a beauty salon, a massage room, a really pretty piano in the lounge, and a fireplace. They said they have live music often. They had a coffee bar area and a courtyard where you could sit with tables, chairs, and umbrellas. They had some pretty garden areas. The landscaping was good. The food looked very good. It was super clean. The dining room had a view of the water, so it was nice. It was cleaner and better organized than the other places. It looked like a lot newer facility, and that's probably why it looked cleaner, too. It was pristine and you didn't see everybody stuffed in the hallway. They had a really beautiful movie room. Their decorations were very modern and very sleek.

I visited this facility

Oakmont of Mariner Point is nice. It's really way back in the distance, so you get kind of confused on where it is, but the facility looked nice. The rooms were a nice size. They have nice sceneries because you're out there by the water. The rooms were really nice and clean. My mom is going blind, so she needs the rooms to be bright, so the rooms were bright and that was a good thing. That was a plus. It wasn't dark in the room when you went in without the lights on. I've only dealt with one staff member, and she was really nice. The facility is really beautiful. The memory care and assisted living are two different areas, so what they have in the assisted living is not the same that they have in the memory. There's not a giant dining room and all that stuff. Everything is a whole lot smaller in scale. There are two different areas, which are totally different from each other. In the memory care, they have codes on the doors, so you can't get in without a code, and can't get out without a code.

Provider Response

Hi Lenice, our team strives to deliver an excellent experience, and are glad you found this to be the case during your visit. If you have further needs or questions, please reach out! We look forward to talking with you again soon.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was in Oakmont of Mariner Point. I don't think they were caring enough to even accommodate my mother. They didn't have the compassion to help her. In the beginning, when we got her in the room and everything, my mom was agitated. She didn't have anything to eat before then, but they did try to give her at least a soup to eat. But after that, we tried settling her to her room to sleep, and it seemed like we were ignored. I had to chase down a staff member to clean her. No one came by to see my mom, and I was there for about six hours. I had to go find someone to come into the room. The MedTech was very friendly and showed compassion a little bit. But that was only one person. And then they called me the next morning that my mom fell and hit her head. Their protocol was to take her to the hospital to get her checked out. The overall general experience was horrible for me based on what happened.

What a beautiful community. I've looked around at other places and landed back at Oakmont. Very nice staff, clean facilities, and the food is amazing!

My sister is in Oakmont of Mariner Point. Like the other places it's ill-run, ill-administered, they don't have sufficient staff members, and they don't live up to many of the promises that they made. Her room there is much too small. There are lots of activities there, although my sister doesn't take advantage of them. They have movies and do a lot of stuff like bus tours and things like that which is nice. Their food seems adequate to me.

Provider Response

Dear G.D., Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts. We take all feedback seriously, and I am sorry to hear that your Oakmont experience is not meeting your expectations. We strive to provide our residents and families with the 5-star care and service that we promise and I would like the opportunity to learn more about your comments to improve your experience. Please contact me directly if you would like to share more. Sincerely, Elaine Wong Executive Director

Oakmont of Mariner Point was a very pleasant and elegant but quite a small community. The food and the staff were very good. They had a second community right next door they're associated with that facilities that the people at Oakmont could use. They had more activities than we would possibly take part in and do all day.

My mother is in Oakmont of Mariner Point near my home. It has the right kind of room that we are looking for. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. The staff is very good, very professional, and very friendly. They take care of their residents and have amenities, like movies and television.

Oakmont of Mariner Point seemed like a very nice place, and people and staff are friendly. The room looked very nice, and I like the bath and the shower because I can just walk right in. I like that the best. The staff that assisted me was very nice. The dining area looked very nice.

Our loved one has been here for many month. This facility is such a disappointment with high turn over of staff. They have gone through three executive directors in less then a year. Our current directors main goal is to increase fees and income while not having enough staff to follow through with resident care. Many families are very unhappy and unsatisfied. Changes are underway, but it looks like many more months before we have any stability. Main Goal is to get residents in, with no idea of how they will retain their staff or quality of care. Many many many broken promises!

Provider Response

We are sorry to hear you are unhappy with your loved one’s experience at our community. The care and services provided to our residents is of the utmost importance. I would be more than happy to meet with you personally and address the concerns mentioned in your review. My door is always open for residents, family, friends, and visitors to express their thoughts or concerns, so please don’t hesitate to call or stop by my office anytime. Warm Regards, Joan Riordan, Executive Director

I visited this facility

Oakmont was a beautiful place, like a 4-star hotel. It had a very beautiful setting on the water. It was like a new facility. Everything was clean, nicely detailed, sunny, and bright. The common area was beautiful. It’s close to my brother. It felt nice there; the residents seemed happy and the sales person that we talked to was really nice. There weren’t a lot of people out but I think they had a recreational area. They had a hair salon on the premises; they had a shopping center right nearby. They had virtually everything you could conceivably want. It was really fancy and it was very expensive.

We did visit Oakmont of Mariner Point. It was very nice and very beautiful. The staff was very helpful and very nice. They showed all the activities in the assisted living and memory care. They showed me the outdoor activities, and they showed me how they get together in a group. The dining room was nice. It looked like a restaurant.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My dad stayed at Mariner Point for a month. It was fairly new, nice, and clean. The rooms had nice views and were nice, bright, and airy. However, we were not happy with the staff-to-patient ratio at all. My dad literally broke out of there five times in three weeks because he wasn’t happy at all. They were supposed to be taking him out on walks, but they never did. I actually had to hire somebody as 24-hour care to be with him because they didn’t have enough staff. They actually had this great food plan with fabulous food included. They had a theater right there in-house, but they spent a lot of time watching TV. None of their activities was organized. The people didn’t engage the residents as much, and the residents didn’t get that one-on-one time. There were quite a few unhappy people there.

Oakmont of Mariner Point is a beautiful place. Their accommodations are nice and very upscale, but it's a little bit out of our price range. If we could afford it that would be the place we would go to.

This place is a relatively new. I think they opened in May. The reason that my son chose this place for their dad is because they found that the food and cooking was indeed very good. They advertise as gourmet cooking. They like to go there and eat with their dad. So they find that satisfactory. The living quarters for assisted care are reasonably spacious. It has a sleeping area and a living activity area, plus a bathroom that will accommodate wheelchair although he doesn’t need that right now. The whole place is very pleasant but relatively small facility. It’s located on a pier within sight of sailboats and water. It’s conveniently located off the freeway and yet it’s not in a busy freeway environment. It is a little bit inconvenient to get there because you have to go through these tunnels to get to Alameda from Oakland. Otherwise, I have found the place quite pleasant and service adequate.

Oakmont of Mariner Point was absolutely beautiful. It was small compared to some other facilities, but it was very well appointed. It was brand new. The rooms seemed to be of nice size. The accommodations and amenities for the residents were really nice. They were very well planned and thought out. I met with the marketing director, and she was incredibly helpful. She gave me a great tour and lots of information. I would highly recommend them. They had a little bistro, a hair salon, an exercise room, an activity room, and a beautiful outdoor area that was very peaceful, quiet, and beautiful.

Oakmont is a new facility. They are hiring new staff and make it very challenging for the adjustment. The biggest plus has been the social connection for my mother with other people. They have regular outings to locations, gone to an ice cream parlor, and gone to the San Francisco walk for lunch, and there’s regular shopping trips. There was recently a Hawaiian dancers brought in from a local halal. There’s activity calendar posted daily; sometimes there’s cooking, art projects, painting, and puzzles, and they are starting a reading book club. I haven’t seen their full potential, but I am expecting them to move towards a 5 star.

Our mom is young-at-heart, adventurous, and 91. She chose to move to Oakmont at Mariner Point when she could no longer manage all the aspects of daily life in her own home, but still wanted a place that offered a quality lifestyle. This facility provides that. She loves living next to the Bay with a view of sailboats and downtown Oakland across the Estuary, the terrific staff, and the extremely comfortable and attractive accommodations. It's a relatively small assisted-living facility, which is a big plus. We highly recommend it for folks who need assistance in their daily living, but still know how to live!

Oakmont of Mariner Point would be one of the places that I would consider for my mom because it was in Alameda. They had a lovely view of the waterway in Alameda. The facility was lovely. It was very warm and cozy. It felt very homey.
