This is over $600 more than the state’s average of $4,400. It is also higher than the national average of $4,300.

The Milwaukee County area has one of the higher costs of assisted living in the state at $5,073 a month. In the state’s capital, Madison, seniors pay a little less at $4,956. In Green Bay in the northern part of the state, the cost is the lowest at $3,800. Only one area, Appleton, has a higher average cost. Here seniors average $5,500 a month for assisted living care. In Wausau, the average sits at $4,100, while in Eau Claire it is even less at $4,000. Just to the south of Milwaukee in Racine, the average is $4,650, while seniors in Janesville pay even less at $3,975 a month.

Financial Assistance for Assisted Living in Milwaukee County

In Wisconsin, Medicaid’s Medical Assistance Personal Care program is available to seniors residing in an ALF with less than 20 residents. Additional Social Security income is also available to qualifying seniors and can be used to pay for assisted living through Wisconsin’s Exceptional Expense Supplement for Members of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
