Before choosing an assisted living community in Tallahassee, it’s important to understand the payment options available. For many seniors, using a mix of government benefits and private funds is necessary for covering monthly fees.
Private payments: Assisted living residents use private funds to pay for remaining expenses after using state, federal and VA programs. Private funds can come from multiple sources, including money from selling or renting out a home, retirement accounts and monthly Social Security or pension income.
Florida's Medicaid Long-term Care (MLTC) and Assistive Care Services programs can help qualified seniors pay for the cost of services at an assisted living facility. Neither program covers room and board fees, but the MLTC plan does negotiate those rates with providers.
Seniors receiving Federal SSI benefits can also take advantage of Florida's optional state supplementation to help with long-term care costs.
