Genworth Financial’s 2020 Cost of Care Survey discloses that in California, assisted living fees are approximately $700 more per month than the national average. In Ventura County, where assisted living fees are based on the costs in its local city of Oxnard, care costs are even higher. On average, Ventura County seniors pay $5,845 per month for assisted living, which is 17% higher than the state median of $5,000 and 36% higher than the national average of $4,300.
Assisted living fees in the Ventura County region surpass the state average by over $800 per month. Costs in Ventura County come in at approximately $5,845, making it one of the more expensive options for this type of care in California. Even so, the region is affordable compared to the San Francisco area, where assisted living facilities charge $6,100 per month for services, and Salinas, which is the most expensive option in the state at $7,100. Those seeking more economical options may consider Sacramento, where monthly fees are considerably lower at $5,395, or Fresno, where facilities charge approximately $4,750 per month. In the San Diego area, care costs are closer to the national median at $4,525. Assisted living fees are more affordable in the Riverside area at $3,900 per month, and in Merced, rates are the lowest in the state at $3,750.Â

Long Term Care Services of Ventura County, Inc. | (805) 656-1986 | Long Term Care Services of Ventura County is an independent nonprofit organization that advocates on behalf of seniors in the community. This agency provides preplacement counseling services to help seniors understand various levels of care and payment options for assisted living, including what services are paid for by Medi-Cal. Its long-term care ombudsman visits local assisted living facilities to ensure they adhere to state-mandated guidelines related to cleanliness, quality of care and staffing. The ombudsman also helps residents of long-term care facilities to resolve interpersonal problems and fields and investigates reports of resident abuse, neglect and exploitation. |
