Ventura County Area Agency on Aging(805) 477-7300The Ventura County Area Agency on Aging is granted federal funding to provide a broad range of free and low-cost services to area residents aged 60 and over. It operates as an Aging & Disability Resource Center and has agents who provide information and referrals for local agencies that serve seniors. Through its Benefit Enrollment Center, trained volunteers help seniors obtain benefits that may help them cover health care and assisted living expenses. The agency also administers the statewide Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, which provides older adults with information regarding Medicare benefits and options, prescription drug coverage, Medicaid and long-term care insurance.
Veterans Services(805) 477-5155Ventura County’s Veterans Services Agency helps veterans, their spouses and their children or survivors access healthcare services and financial assistance through the Veterans Administration. The agency helps veterans file claims to the VA for service-related compensation, including pension benefits or disability compensation, which may help cover assisted living expenses. Its representatives can also help veterans determine their eligibility for VA healthcare, veterans’ home placement and the federal Aid and Attendance benefit.
Oxnard RSVP(805) 385-8023Oxnard RSVP is part of the national RSVP network, which connects those aged 55 and over with opportunities to serve their community through volunteerism. This local chapter partners with 40 public and nonprofit organizations, letting seniors serve in the capacity that best suits their interests and abilities. Volunteer opportunities include providing friendly phone calls to housebound community members, sewing blankets and stuffed toys for local hospitals and tutoring and mentoring school-aged children.

Through its Senior Nutrition Program, it operates a congregate dining site called the Westside Café, which is located at the Ventura Avenue Adult Center. The city also offers a variety of classes and recreational opportunities, including golf and an aquatics program.
Long Term Care Services of Ventura County, Inc.(805) 656-1986Long Term Care Services of Ventura County is an independent nonprofit organization that advocates on behalf of seniors in the community. This agency provides preplacement counseling services to help seniors understand various levels of care and payment options for assisted living, including what services are paid for by Medi-Cal. Its long-term care ombudsman visits local assisted living facilities to ensure they adhere to state-mandated guidelines related to cleanliness, quality of care and staffing. The ombudsman also helps residents of long-term care facilities to resolve interpersonal problems and fields and investigates reports of resident abuse, neglect and exploitation.
