VA Aid and Attendance Benefits | (623) 856-9379 | The VA Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly payment included in the VA pension to U.S. military veterans residing in senior living communities. The purpose of the benefit, which is also available to veterans’ spouses, is to help cover some of the costs of their care. Payments are unique to each vet, with the maximums being $1,881 for a single veteran, $2,230 for a couple and $1,209 for a surviving spouse. VeteranAid.org provides a free tool on its website for vets to check if they qualify. |
Arizona Long-Term Care Ombudsman | (602) 264-2255 | Seniors in residential care facilities who have issues with their standard of care can contact the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, who will investigate their complaints and seek resolutions with the owners and managers of the facilities. The families of residents and third parties can also register complaints with the ombudsman. Additionally, families comparing assisted living communities for loved ones can request information held about them by the ombudsman. There’s no cost to families for the information. |
Medicare – State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) | (623) 930-4321 | SHIP is a program administered state-wide by the Arizona Department of Economic Security and administered in Goodyear by the Area Agency on Aging for Region One. It’s a free service for Medicare beneficiaries and seniors who need assistance with enrolling. Counselors inform and advise seniors about Medicare coverage, which can include private health care plans. However, the counselors are unbiased, so won’t try to sell insurance. |
Medicaid – Arizona Long Term Care (ALTCS) | (800) 654-8713 | Arizona’s Medicaid includes the ALTCS program, which allows it to help pay some or all of the costs for low-income seniors who are best served in assisted living facilities. Each senior is assigned a case manager to coordinate their care. To be eligible, the senior must be aged 65 or older, be in possession of a social security number, have resources of no more than $2,000 and a monthly income below $2,250. The program can also pay for limited dental treatments. |
Goodyear-area assisted living communities must adhere to the comprehensive set of state laws and regulations that all assisted living communities in Arizona are required to follow. Visit our Assisted Living in Arizona page for more information about these laws.
