Mom is in the rehab wing at Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation, Inc. after having a stroke and she's been receiving help with pretty much everything. She wasn't able to walk after the stroke. Now, she's able to walk using a walker, so that's good progress. It is a really good facility. The therapists have been really good. The people have been very kind to her and have taken really good care of her. Since we're there every day, we pretty much know how things are going and it is going well. She likes the aides and the nurses. She has a nice room with enough space for the wheelchair (when she had to use that for a while). Everything is nice in the room. Except there are only two chairs. So, when more people come to visit, we have to go find more chairs, and one of the chairs is kind of worn out and has a hole in the arm, but otherwise, everything is nice and looks nice. For the most part, the food is good. Some nights they have spicy or greasy foods and she doesn't like that, but 75% of the time, she likes the food.

the middle of record-breaking snowfall and under a travel advisory (emergency only), we were informed with only a day's notice that my mother's Medicare has stopped paying and that we had only 24 hrs to retrieve her period! Post-stroke, my 80 yr old mother is unable to walk , she’s on 24/7 oxygen and requires round-the-clock care. Considering there abrupt GET OUT” notice was not mentioned during the 45 minute care plan meeting which I intended along with 4 staff members just 5 days prior, this notice was quite unexpected. In fact, at that time, we were working under the guidelines and time frames provisioned under Medicare’s standard policies and benefits. These allowances would have paid for another week (at least) at 100% and another 20 more days at 80 %. But Briarwood’s unrealistic demand to remove my mother or else left no time to trudge thru Medicare’s call center for clarity. The following morning, the roads were in the same condition and we were no closer to finding a solution to the impossible demand put upon us by this facility. And though we pleaded with Brairwood’s administrative staff to be reasonable, given the unusual circumstances, and allow us an additional 24 hours in order to : 1)make arrangements for someone to be there to care for her once home- I know they are not allowed to release someone without following up to be sure their is proper care in place once they come home. That process had not even become 2) Allow time for the city to clear the 14 plus inches of snow and ice off the roads in order to decrease the treacherous nature of the trip there and back, keeping in mind that, if we were to become stuck, she is unable to walk, and on a time frame limited by the flow of oxygen in the portable tank). 3)Shovel a pathway approximately 30 feet long, 3 feet wide and 14 inches deep in snow to allow her wheelchair to get her in the house IF we managed to navigate the same depts of snow there and back. Brairwood’s response was NO! In fact , a stern advisement was left on my sister’s voice mail that if we did not pick her up by 4 pm that day, they would report us to the “APS” and my mother would be placed under the status of “abandoned Elder” . We asked if they could bring her home in their transport van but were advised that they were operating under their inclement weather policies and therefore deemed it unsafe. We were offered a single solution: pay UP FRONT $250.00 (and they were happy to take our debt card number over the phone right then) which would give us 24 more hours to make necessary arrangement to insure she was able to be safety transported and that adequate care would be provided for her once she arrived home. I’ve taken the time to write this review because it is imperative that the public know about this incident as I we are not special nor do I believe this is an isolated event. Until my mother became “an elder”, I never had reason to give much thought to what really should be at the top of any political priority list. The FAIR JUST AND REASONABLE CARE for our parents, grandparents et should rank at the highest level of all moral considerations and yet this is far from reality. I hope every single person reading this will take the time to ask questions, verify answers, follow up , check in often and just do their homework. As for Briarwood, I would give up my paralegal position of ten years and support my self w the revenue of scrapping aluminum cans if that’s what I had to do just so I could take care of my mother myself rather than put her back in the hands of any one associated with this place. Luckily for us, my mother a formal media executive, enjoyed a 40 year career that earned her both the respect and friendship of her celebrity colleagues, community leaders and political icons And though she’s outlived most of them, it took only one call to the right person and an hour later my mother’s complimentary ride service had delivered her to the warmth and comfort of her own living room. TO THOSE PEOPLE, MY GRATITUDE IS BEYOND WORDS. To every single staff member of Briarwood, Though you may see these people as the forgotten, and you may think it’s acceptable to treat them as if they’ve worn out their usefulness and that it’s no big deal to treat them this way, LET ME ASSURE YOU, THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO TREAT THEM IN THIS MANNER. LET ME ALSO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP THAT YOU MAY SOON BE ASKED TO PROVIDE A LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE EXPLANATION FOR YOUR AGRECIOUS ACTIONS. God speed to your residences

My mother-in-law has been here for about 5 years. At first we thought the facility was great, but for the past four years it has been a nightmare. The staff has proven to be somewhat untrustworthy and the lady who seems to be over the staff is probably the rudest individual that could ever be associated with such a facility. Please investigate this place thoroughly and do your research before even considering placing a loved one into this establishment. There are in the same area plenty of suitable nursing homes that would prove to be a far better place to secure a loved one than Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I caution you to consider the surrounding facilities FIRST, Please!!

I visited a friend at Briarwood. It looked nice, and it's usually full. I had no problems with the staff, they were all very helpful. The dining area is very good and the food is good except breakfast. They have a beautiful baby grand piano for entertainment. Everything is shipshape during the day, but at night there were not many people on duty.

My mother is in a rehab unit right now at Briarwood. We are a little less than pleased. They did laundry, and it was stolen in the place. And then, she has some trouble getting the medication that she needed; they are very slow in administering that. She is in therapy a couple times a day, and they have an activity room where they can do games or whatever in there while they were waiting for their turn to do therapy. The place is very clean, and it is newer too. Her room is nice.

Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation seems to be a very nice facility. It has a waiting list, so obviously, other people are interested in going there also. It looked to be very clean. The staff and the people that I talked to seemed to be very nice. The few patients that I saw out in the hallway seemed happy and seemed like they were well cared for.

Myself and family had to place our great grandmother into an assisted living facility due to her age and the ability to be left alone. We were very impressed with this facility, the staff member welcomed us in a very politely way. This was the family first time placing a close love one in a facility, so we were all a bit nervous. Therefore, the lobby visiting area was full for a a few days with the usually family members that would visit her on a daily basis. We were all excited to find out that we could visit her as much as we wanted and we could come at anytime. If we wanted to visit after hours we could contact someone at the front desk and let them know who we were. This facility was excellent for my great grandmother. The staff were very nice and the facility is updated, I think the facility may only be a three to fours years old. And the location is great because it's located right off of an interstate.
