Mom was in Highland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. My sister and I were very pleased with their facility and their care. It was very nice and very clean. I saw them every weekend cleaning an area rug that was right in the center of a very busy area. It was just a very nice place and everyone was very friendly. I would recommend it. The staff that I saw was very attentive. The social worker was very nice and met with us every couple of weeks to go over Mom's health care plan and rehab. They kept, as far as I could tell, detailed notes on her rehabilitation and the course of action they were taking. I had no complaints about the staff. I thought the food was good. They were nutritious and balanced.

I have serious concerns about this facility. It seems nice at first glance but beware. My mom came there after emergency hip replacement. They drugged her up so much she couldn't function. They kept telling me that she was an old woman and this was to be expected. I knew this wasn't true. I had them take her off all the drugs and she immediately started to come back to her old self. I could never talk to the doctor. I left numerous messages and was always told he was too busy. He didn't visit the patients, he just wrote the prescriptions that the nurses requested. The food was awful. The woman who shared a room with my mom was treated so terribly. They wouldn't bath her. She begged for a bath and they kept telling her they'd do it the next day. She had allergies so she couldn't eat what was on the menu and they didn't provide her with any alternatives. We finally got my mom out of there and she immediately came back to her old self. However, they left her in a wheelchair for so long that she now has permanent damage to her legs. She should have been up and walking after her hip surgery - not in a wheelchair. The only reason I gave them a 2 star is because some of the staff were nice and the physical therapy (which is a different company) was good. You could tell the physical therapy company was frustrated with the nursing staff and doctors at the facility. They had a person who did activities and I think she tried to get the residents out. However, everyone was so drugged up that no one could function. Since we left there, I have been told by a few different doctors that they don't recommend this place.

My husband was there because he was weak after having surgery and was suppose to have help walking to get his strength. He was suppose to be there at least 3 weeks. I took him out after 6 days. His medicine was not given in the proper manner and they were not giving the right dosage of his blood thinner. The room was ice cold and one of the aides scolded his wife for wanting him to have more blankets. I had to pull teeth to talk to the doctor who only comes twice a week. He wasn't getting much physical therapy and he was doing well walking by himself but they wouldn't allow it, so how was he suppose to gain strength with 10 min at a time for a couple times a week. They promised him a shower and it never happened until 2 days later when his wife complained and they grudgingly gave him a shower at night. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It sounds wonderful when you apply but after you are there its a different story. One nurse was going to give him his bedtime med's in the morning. His wife told her that was his bedtime pills and after insisting she check she came back and said she had the wrong ones. Help! It would have been a disaster if wife didn't stay with him all the time. After being there 3 days they took off his socks and his feet were swollen like balloons He is on a low or no sodium diet due to heart failure and had to stop eating the food immediately Wife had to bring food from home and they didn't like that and were nasty about it saying there food wasn't salted. Whatever. He wouldn't have made it there for 3 weeks..

My 95-year-old mother was there for about 6 weeks of rehab. While her therapies were relatively successful, her personal hygiene needs were frequently neglected. For example, I had to remind the staff numerous times to put on her compression stockings prior to getting out of bed. Her face was infrequently washed, resulting in red, scaly patches. Oral hygiene was the worst. Her dentures were not properly cleaned, and she would wear them caked in blue toothpaste. She very seldom had her mouth cleaned either, and more than once I would visit her in the afternoon to find that she hadn't put them in her mouth at all that day. (How can she be expected to eat a nutritious meal without teeth?) It was repeatedly pointed out and should have been obvious to the care staff that she needed assistance with those tasks. I reported all of these incidents to nursing and/or administrative staff, however the care continued to be less than acceptable throughout her stay there.

The facility has had bed bugs and they failed to inform any of their residents, resident families and have actively covered up the problem over time. They even paid for someone to come spray my house because they're the root cause of the source.

I stayed in highlands after my surgery. It was clean and without foul odor. I shared a room for a few days, and then they moved me across the hall to a private room. We were not allowed to bathe ourselves. They bathed us in a public bathing area, so a lot of people were coming and going, and I didn’t like that. The food was good.
