What I liked about Brookdale North Glendale was the openness of the facility, and it was small. My mom was in an assisted living facility, and I didn't like the memory care options that they had where she was staying. I like having a dedicated memory care. Some places that were assisted living kind of just shut off a corridor, and I didn't like that. Right now, they're wonderful, but she is still transitioning, so it's kind of hard. The people I have interacted with and worked with have been wonderful, like the executive director and the head of nursing, Erica. It's a wonderful layout. It's cozy and open, but they don't have as much outdoor space. I haven't really participated or seen my mom participate in activities, but based on their schedule, it seems good. Memory care is always too expensive, but I think it's OK compared to the others. I think it's all within the realm of the budgets. She is in a one-bedroom with a bathroom, but no shower. The rooms are all the same. They have one that's a little bit bigger, then they have a double room, but they didn't have a lot of availability. They're pretty much booked up.

Brookdale North Glendale was the nicest of all the places I went to. I liked it but I didn't like their outdoor area because I wished they had more green space. They did seem to have amenities there. The staff who gave me the tour was persistent and called back several times. He tried very hard to get us to select the place which I appreciated. I got a good impression of the place.

One of the factors that I choose Emeritus for my mom is that there are no stairs and elevators because my mom is not good at elevators. It is less of a hospital and more of a homey type atmosphere. The people are very friendly and helpful. I am very impressed with the staff for being very friendly and they knew my mom by name within the first two days. They are very helpful and make sure that everybody is taken care of. She is in nice shared room with a little refrigerator and a bathroom. It is furnished and set up nicely for two people. They have normal food. They have all kinds of activities. They have bingo, exercise and arts and crafts. They have entertainment. They even have a happy hour once a month. My mom is happy there and I will recommend them to others.

We liked it at Emeritus. They had services for dementia. The rooms were very airy and spacious. I would have liked the rooms to have 1 bedroom but all they had were studios. The residents were out and about, not cloistered in their rooms. The whole atmosphere was very upbeat. They had really good transportation as needed. They were also fairly close to the hospital. I liked that they cover all the way up to hospice. I wouldn't have to move my mother several times if I do put her there.

My mother has been living at Emeritus at Glendale the past two years. I was so surprised when I pulled up this site today to find the review from the volunteer. I visited about 15 facilities in the Peoria/Glendale area while looking for a place my mother could call home. Trust me after looking at that many locations I can assure you Emeritus at Glendale does rate STELLAR! I have never been there when the property was not a five star. The garden area in the middle of the building gives everyone a peaceful environment when visiting. The facility just received new decor this past year. It might not be what everyone might want. However, we have to remember that the decor is for the residences not visitors. I don't decorate my home for the visitors but for my family. I think the staff decorated this facility to make their residences feel more comfortable. I don't know how they are able to maintain the property and take such excellent care of their residences but everyday they do an outstanding job. I usually visit my mother at least once a week. I never let the staff know when I am coming so I can get a good picture of the care they are providing. I can honestly say that I have never been there when any resident wasn't being giving special attention. That was why I chose the facility in the first place. In fact, this staff becomes a part of the family. You might wonder how I can say that....well they know my mother's habits and behaviors so well they can tell when she isn't feeling well. I am immediately contacted when this occurs. I am shocked that you could come into my mother's home several times then say the MAJORITY of their worker don't like their jobs and are mean. That upsets me greatly because you have no right to come into our home and critize our family. I have never seen anyone at Emeritus at Glendale be mean to a resident. Emeritus at Glendale is stellar and their staff is the best or else I WOULD NOT have chosen it to be my mother's home nor would I continue to leave her in their care. My mother lives in a memory care facility...that is NOT a Nursing home.

My experience with this facility stems from volunteering at the location several times. Emeritus caters to patients who have memory issues. Overall, the facility is nice but has nothing stellar. First, I will discuss the environment. From my visits, I can that the environment is very clean and the staff works hard to uphold such standards. The decor is nothing special, even a little bland. There is a sky light in the center of the facility, some indoor real and fake plants, and a very small outside garden in the rear of the facility. For the activities, each time I visited the residents were either playing bingo, watching T.V., getting nails painted. It's the usual stuff one would expect from a stereotypical nursing home. However, they do try to put on special events and I once attended a western themed dance and got to dance with some of the residents. Finally, the staff is competent but not special. There are several workers who are very pleasant, friendly, and are great at interacting with the residents. Yet, the majority of worker s there doesn't seem to enjoy their job and can even appear a little mean. In my opinion, Emeritus does its job well but does not exceed.
