Hamrick Highlands is an assisted living, and this was the first place we took my mother-in-law to. The only problem was they deemed she would be OK in this place and not have to go to a memory place. They said they would try, and they thought she would do OK there. They said she could stay there as long as she didn't try to go out the doors, which she did, and she was asked to leave. I really liked the facility. The only problem was she didn't belong there. The rest of the people were assisted living and they pretty much had their mentality about them. They had great activities and really good homecooked food right there in front of you. I would recommend it for lower than middle class. It's for simple, plain, good old country people. They were happy and they were treated good. They only had one nurse on-staff at night, and she watched the whole facility at night by herself. Whoever was on-call was there for a whole night. It was not bad; it was because they trusted that people weren't leaving the facility. The doors would buzz if my mother-in-law opened it, but she didn't stay there very long because she tried to go looking for her son outside in the woods. The staff was very caring. These seniors love old religious songs, and they would have somebody come in and play old gospel music. The room would be packed, and they would sing their hearts out. They would play cards and games out there where they ate. It was their fun activity center, too. What I saw was good.

My husband will be moving into Hamrick Highlands Assisted Living. It's owned by two nurses. I have never heard anything bad about the place. I believe it's probably the least expensive in town. The guy that I dealt with didn't want to talk much on the phone or give me much information, but once we met with him, he was just super nice. The room is more or less a bedroom and a bath. I've not been in his room since I got the furniture, and it was not furnished when we got there. The place is super clean and super neat. I've seen the residents in their cafeteria area during or after their meal and during activity and they looked very happy and content. There were no problems. The dining area is kind of unusual. It's towards the front door, so they can see anybody that comes and goes from their tables. I don't expect my husband to be particularly involved in activities, but hopefully, he'll at least enjoy observing. I didn't question them a whole lot on that because I didn't feel like it was really important to him. The staff who gave me the tour was very nice and very knowledgeable.
