Cedar Hill Assisted Living Facility was a really nice place. There are people there my father's age that he can interact with. It's clean. The staff was courteous. They explained everything really well to us. The living accommodations are sizable for somebody that age. It's not too big, and it is not too small. I think they're well set up to accommodate a senior person. They have movies and programs for older people to keep them cognitively involved.

Cedar Hill is an assisted living facility in Selma Alabama with a wing for dementia care as well as those requiring minimal assistance with ADL's. It is a great place for anyone that is no longer able to live alone. Staff is very warm and caring. However they are under paid in my opinion for the amount of work that they perform on a daily basis.

i had the opportunity to stay with a lady back in June at Cedar Hill when she was first moved from the general area to the secured area. whenever patients come into the facility be it in general or moved to secured area, someone has to stay with them for 72 hours to help the patients get orientated. Cedar Hill has been in operation for about twelve years now. it is very clean and the staff seems to genuinely care about their patients. according to Alabama state law, anything that might pose a threat to the patient is locked in a cabinet and when the patient wants to use it, they have to call for the nurse. this includes toothpaste, deodorant and even electric razors. they get the patients up in the morning and help them get their bath and get ready to go do the dining room for breakfast. after breakfast, they are given their morning medications. they then have some free time to do whatever they want. they have a beautician come in once a month or so to give shampoos and pedicures. they play bingo, do eldercises and other events that keep their minds and hands busy. they are given a midday snack, mid afternoon snack and i believe a bedtime snack. they have a small walking area and a porch with rocking chairs. i wish the walking area was a little bigger because it gets very monotonous to walk about thirty feet and back. they feel very closed in. the nurses and personal care technicians and dietary staff and event coordinator all try to get the patients laughing and cutting up be it in the dining room or during crafts or whatever they are doing. the grounds have a lake but people in the secured area cannot see it from their wing. every christmas, there is a big to do with lights and lighted animals and even caroling. this was even bigger when the hospital that started the plans for this facility. the hospital no longer has any part in this facility. they also have a section of garden homes that are two bedroom and two baths, living room kitchen and laundry room that can be bought. if a resident does not feel like cooking, they can take their meals in the general dining room for a small fee. i watched them build this facility from the ground up and made periodic tours as they were building the facility. i never dreamed it would be so nice. the patients can bring in their own furniture and just about anything to make it feel as one patient called it an apartment. they even allow animals to be brought in. this really helps them feel at home.

My grandmother became unable to live alone after my grandfather died. My mother decided it would be best for her to move to an assisted living.the staff was very attentive.the facility has a program of pairing a new resident with someone who has been living there for awhile.this was a blessing for my grandmother a she is very social and was able to make friends quickly through her mentor.they were great about assisting her with her medications since she had started to be forgetful about things like that. They were also able to assist her with showers and dressing when needed.cedar hill staff does an overall great job of making their facility feel a home like as possible. The only complaint I can come up with is the techs on the night shift would occasionally ask my grandmother for money to help her with things which is strictly against their policies. once we and a few other families brought this to the directors attention they corrected it immediately and removed the inappropriate staff. Overall cedar hill is by far the best option closer to Selma Alabama for an assisted living facility.
