I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad has been in Lafayette Extended Care. He is under quarantine for the past two weeks, so I haven't been able to actually see it. I am not allowed inside; everybody is quarantined. I just spoke to the people on the phone. Currently, he has a private room, but they also have shared rooms. I probably received about three to four calls from the staff so far, so that's twice a week. They have been friendly to my knowledge, and my dad seems to think so too. I have spoken with him many times. It's hard for him because he's quarantined. Other than that, he hasn't had many complaints. They have some outdoor spaces and a little courtyard area. It's a one-story building. The staff has been very helpful. It looks like a pretty nice facility.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My family member has been at this facility for many years now. Most of the staff has always been nice but I have to say that I am disappointed in the amount of activities they have for their residents. A good many of the residents are still in their right mind and would greaty enjoy doing an activity such as arts and crafts or movie night. The staff does not seem to want to improve the quality of life for their residents. They only seem to concentrate on the health side of things. Don't get me wrong, that is also very important; however, these residents have been placed here mostly to live out the rest of their days. It has to be very depressing for the people who do not have regular visitors or for the ones who are young and have no one capable of caring for their needs. A nursing home should provide stimulation for the ones who could benefit from it. I am sure they could get volunteers for this kind of thing or even someone for a small fee if they really tried. I hate to see places that are so caught up on profits that they forget about the little aspects that can make such a difference in a persons life. I feel sorry for the forgotten residents who are placed in a room day in and day out without ever having anything to look forward to. At least if they had some regular, fun activities they might have something to look forward to each week. It might not seem like a lot to the staff but I think that it could make a big difference in some of the residents lives. Unfortunately, for the family members that work full time jobs, we cannot spend as much time as we would like. All we can do is make suggestions and hope that we are not just disregarded by the ones who could make a difference in the lives of our family members.
