About Thrive at Jones Farm in Huntsville, Alabama

Weve taken the blueprint for traditional senior living and put it right where it belongsthe trash can. It wasnt hard. Traditional senior living communities stink. We believe that if a communitys focus is strictly on care, they dont care enough.

We have two living options under one roof.

Assisted Living is ideal for residents who value their independence but may need a bit of help from time to time. Our community team members are raving fans of encouraging independence with assistance readily accessible at all times of day.

Memory Care is for our Elders who are living with some form of memory loss. Every member of the Thrive at Jones Farm team is NIDE (National Institute for Dementia Education) certified. That includes everyone from the chefs and housekeepers to the concierge and nurses. The education allows us to interact with our memory care residents as unique individuals rather than objects in need of care. Residents are engaged with the goal of helping them recapture moments of memories and the recognition of loved ones.

At Thrive, weve dedicated our lives to ensure there is a purpose in every breath of each resident were honored to serve. We understand that Elders and their loved ones depend on us not only to live but to live well. Its a challenge we welcome ? every day.

I toured Thrive at Jones Farm. I like the facility. It's not run down or old. The staff was very knowledgeable and very friendly.

My wife is a resident of Thrive at Jones Farm. Their staff was very friendly. They seemed to be very stable and knowledgeable. Their interface with the patients was very good. They'll see a patient somewhere else in the building and talk to them, and see how they're doing and everything, so very positive. The building is fairly new, maybe 7 or 8 years old, but it's highly maintained. Yesterday, they had therapy dogs. They offer that kind of thing. They had gettogether and I think there's a much higher percentage of women than men in there. They were doing their nails and they had a couple of card games. They have a list. There were 12 things to do yesterday.

My mom moved into Thrive at Jones Farm. She's only been there a month, so we're still feeling it out. It's been good so far. Everybody's nice. The residents are nice. The food is probably average. We haven't experienced physical therapy and a lot of other things yet. My mom's room was a staycation room, so it's not her own stuff, but it's nice. It's kind of comparable to others we saw. The facility is very clean, neat, and new. The activities seem good.

I visited this facility

We toured Thrive at Jones Farm. The apartments are large and have a full-size bathroom and closet. The staff is very friendly. The outdoor area is lovely. The overall community there is just very welcoming. It's just like an impromptu lunch they were having for the whole community, that's why we went over. It was just hotdogs but they were very good. They were excellent. I complimented the chef when he came out.

My dad is at Thrive at Jones Farm. So far, we've been pleased with the staff. My dad has a nice room. Their activities are engaging. He has participated in all of them and has gotten active, which is what I needed him to do and what he needed to do to be able to keep walking. So far, we're pleased. Family members are able to take people out of the memory care into the assisted living side. There are a couple of garden areas there that are nice. That's important for my dad to be able to have a place to get out. They have a piano, so music groups and church choirs can come, and that's important to him, too. So far, the activity director is very good. For memory care, he is intellectually engaging with them. He reads to them, they play word games, and they talk about things in history. He seems good and kind, and he gets them talking, and that appeals to my dad. For the staff, I've been there late at night, and they don't know I'm there. But I've heard their interactions with difficult people, and they are so patient and very caring. For the meals, I've only been there at breakfast time. They don't vary breakfast so far. I hope that they offer pancakes or waffles, something besides scrambled eggs. My dad enjoyed the other meals though. It's not a brand-new building. I think there are things that need to be done about them. It's still adequate though. The windows are nice, and the halls are nice and big. The memory care is small enough for my dad, so it's good for memory care.

I toured Thrive at Jones Farm for my mother. I love the location. I love the leadership, or the people in charge of interacting with the people every day. They had a wonderful schedule. It was light, airy, and a happy feeling. The building is beautiful. I would go with it. And if I had to say anything negative, maybe some of the units were a little bit small or snug, but that's it. The atmosphere was peaceful, calm, and cheerful.

Thrive at Jones Farm was OK. The rooms were a lot smaller and had more of a studio layout. It's a little older. The staff were OK. They had a few things.

I went to Thrive at Jones Farm. Very good tour. The lady who toured me around was extremely nice, and very knowledgeable, and helped me think through the questions that are important and guide my thinking about what's important. I did meet a couple of staff members and had an extremely enjoyable interaction with their staff members. The staff cares a lot about the guests. The outdoor appearance is extremely nice. The indoor appearance is very nice. Very, very clean. Very well kept up. I did look in the activity room and the dining areas. All are extremely nice. So I was very impressed with the overall appearance of Thrive. I thought it was very well laid out.

While my dad’s experience at the first memory care facility he entered was awful and the second place left a lot to be desired, we were horrified to witness the emotional abuse he endured here. Thrive had been our top choice by far when we first began touring memory care facilities back in September. In October, we put down a $2000 deposit to secure Dad’s place on their waiting list, and a room finally opened up in June while my dad was at a rehab center after breaking seven ribs in a fall. We moved him in on July 7, having provided the head nurse with every possible bit of information about our dad that we felt would be important and helpful for staff to know. We also installed a camera — which was welcomed at each of the three facilities Dad lived in — so that if he fell again, we’d be able to see. Agitation in people with Alzheimer’s is not a random occurrence for no reason. It can be caused by pain, hunger, lack of sleep, fear, anxiety, anger — just like for anyone, except Alzheimer’s patients (especially in the late stage like my dad) can’t communicate or even identify what’s bothering them. Instead, they act out emotionally. My dad was in a new setting with unfamiliar people; he was nursing seven ribs that were broken only three weeks earlier; the mood-stabilizing medicine he’d been taking regularly since January had been reduced and changed in its dosage while he’d been in the hospital for his ribs; he hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep for days in a row; and, as we soon found out, he was severely constipated with a bowel impaction. Any one of those could cause agitation, and he in fact did become agitated enough to where on his seventh day of being at Thrive he slapped the cup of pills out of Nurse Penny’s hand when she went to give them to him. Penny clearly didn’t like that nor did she like my dad, as her actions caught on our camera that night showed. My dad fell out of bed at 3:18 am. He was discovered by a CNA at 3:50, who promptly called for Nurse Penny and waited there for her without saying a word to my dad, who was moaning with pain on the floor. When Penny arrived, she exclaimed sarcastically, “Oh, shocking!” Then one of the two women laughed. Then Penny stood over my dad — who can still hear well — and said in an incredulous tone, “I’m sending him out! This is the third fall today. We can’t keep doing fall after fall after fall after fall, picking these people up! My back’s already hurting. This is crazy! This is unreal!” Penny then alternated between saying she knew Dad would “fight” if they tried to help him get up off the floor and asking him if he wanted her to help him get up (to which he said “yes” every time). No one asked my dad if he was hurt for five minutes (to which he said “yes,” but they never asked him where or to show where he was hurt). He continued laying on the floor with no pillow or blanket being offered unti after Penny called for an ambulance. Once they finally got him lifted up onto the bed, he was left there uncovered in an awkward and no doubt uncomfortable position UNATTENDED from 4:32 until 4:58 when the EMTs arrived. Yes, I have met with the director and head nurse at Thrive and shown them the videos. While they say they have spoken to Penny, she is still working there. I believe that anyone who would treat my father like that — emotional abuse and neglect — has and will continue to treat other residents the same way. Nurse Penny and the CNA who was her silent accomplice are neither caring nor giving and should not be working with vulnerable, elderly dementia residents.

My mother was a resident there. Housekeeping is hit and miss. It seems you have to constantly stay on top of staff for them to do what they're supposed to be doing. Staff talks a good game to get residents in, but once you're in, they don't seem to care. As everywhere anymore they seemed to be short staffed. Food is hit or miss, depending on who the cook is. It seems information family gives isn't provided on residents charts for employees to view, so you have to stay on top of their care and remind constantly inform employees . My advice is for anyone intending to place your family member there, visit the facility on a daily basis to ensure your loved one is being properly cared for.

Thrive at Jones Farm was a little bigger than what my aunt was looking to be in. We saw the memory care, and the staff there was very professional. It seemed clean. The room was a good size. It was adequate. It's very conveniently located.

I visited this facility

I toured Thrive at Jones Farm. There seems to be a larger number of people, a more open space area for things to occur than what I've seen in some other places, and the facility itself is very modern. They just opened about five years ago, I think. The staff who assisted me was highly knowledgeable and helpful with any questions that I have. I roughly sort of saw their dining area facility, but the menu did not have many options. The rooms were very good and good-looking. They had some capability to take in a couple, but they were waitlisted at this point for a significant amount of time, so we didn't pursue that route. As for activities, I saw that there was a group going on there, but I did not see what activity they were doing. However, they have a standard list of activities.

I visited this facility

I visited Thrive at Jones Farm and got a general overview of the assisted living and memory care. I was looking more at the assisted living over there. Overall, it was very good. The people seemed very friendly. It was smaller than the other places we looked at. They had less activities, but it's decent. The apartments were good in the assisted living part. Those were only studios, so those would be small. From what I saw, everything was clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was a resident in the Woodlands (memory care unit) at Thrive at Jones Valley Huntsville. This was one of the worst experiences my sister and I have experienced. We experienced a lot of talk from the administration on the staffs knowledge of dementia and how they deal with the residents , although this was not shown during my mother’s care. Cleanliness of her room and bathroom was not observed. Her routine of daily living skills including bathing, teeth brushing, face washing, dressing etc. was not always carried out. Communication skill between staff and family did not happen. My overall opinion of this facility is one of concern. This facility is not recommend to others that are looking for a caring home for their loved one.

This place is all show and lacks substance to perform all the things it promises to do for residents. Truly not there for residents when they need them the most. Staff sitting on phones while residents wondered or sitting unengaged for hours on end. Not the service they promise. Needs staff training and accountability and could be a facility that the brochures say and CEO/managers think it is.

I am a past client of this provider

Great place that provides loving care for a family member. It is truly a “home away from home” kind of place. It is the only assisted living or memory care facility that I would consider for a family member or myself.
