I am/was a resident of this facility

I am in the rehab portion of the facility. I have been here for 4 days, and am going to transfer ASAP. In the 4 days I’ve been here it takes on average 2 - 3 hours for the nurses to respond to a call. I waited 6 hours to get a nausea medicine this morning. I have a catheter and developed a UTI. I was told that their lab was not open on the weekends, but that first thing Monday morning they would take a urine sample so that I could get put on an antibiotic.. I mentioned it to the nurse first thing this morning and got a vague response. It’s now 4:00, and the sample hasn’t been taken, so no antibiotic today. It’s terribly painful, and no one seems to care. The CNA’S say they’ll get a nurse, yet no one comes. It makes me wonder how the poor elderly patients here are left in pain with no attention. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone who loves the patient. Patient care is not their foremost concern here.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I would definately not recommend the nursing home to potential residents. My mother has been here for a short 3 months and she has deteriorated dramatically. The skin on her back and buttocks looks like hamburger meat, and her skin was perfect before she came here. She rarely has a shower, they don't get her up and out of bed, and she is not turned on a regular basis. The aides were not bringing her water on a daily basis, so she developed a kidney infection. I am already checking into moving her either back home or at least a better facility. So sad that it is this way. They were not honest in their statements and commitment to the residents and family. What happened to basic patient rights!?

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife was in this facility last summer and came out worse then when she went in.Two days after she was released her 02 trooped to 74.She was transported to the hospital where she almost died. While she was at this facility she came down with pneumonia.I had to tell the nurse there was something wrong. The aids never reported this to the nurse. One good thing about this facility was the rehab staff.

I visited this facility

The Gables was very nice. The dining room was adequate. It was well maintained and fairly new. The room we saw was nice. It had a separate bedroom and sitting room, and it was set up more like an apartment. The staff who gave me the tour was very helpful. The outdoor space seemed more concrete than green. It was more institutional, but it was very clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has been a resident here over 3 years. Overjoyed with her care, well being and the love shown to her on a steady basis. Glenda(voice of Charlton Place!), nurses, CNAs, Dietary, Housekeeping all stellar. No place in Montgomery or surrounding area comes close to standards set here. Never, EVER have I seen any staff member on a cell phone, standing against the wall or deliberately not hearing a call bell. That is house wide. Always clean, fresh and quietly busy. Rooms are appropriately well sized, large bathrooms, wonderful parlor area for visits and dining rooms always clean! No sticky chair backs, table rims or seat bottoms. My mom is actively dying and since she can’t be with our family, I can rest better knowing her “other family” is loving her. Words cannot express my gratitude for Charlton Place and those who so lovingly serve those residents who are living out their last days. Staff has always been extremely respectful and attentive to needs of those who need extra assistance. While my mom doesn’t have much time left on this earth, she is being cared for in such a way I have NEVER seen in any facility in Montgomery and/or surrounding area. Charlton Place puts NEW MEANING to Rehab/Nursing Home/Elder Care Facility. Actually, just hearing the words Nursing Home/Rehab/Elder Care Facility would bring a sense of dread and mental darkness to my mind. CP defines what Elder Care truly means. I have tried to think of one negative aspect of CP but cannot. Charlton Place has reset the gold standard. Thank you so much for all you do and have done!

Do not send anyone you care about to this facility. I had a friend here for rehab after knee surgery and they almost let him die. He did not urinate for 3 days and the urine backed up and put his kidneys in the negative. He is still using a catheter because of it. The only way we found out was because he fell and had to go to the ER and the doctors there said he had a small baby in him and the nurses at the facility had not even noticed. They couldn't even tell me how he fell. He has dementia so he could not communicate well with him. He has a dislocated finger, that still bothers, him from the fall. He will have to go to a specialist for this. The nurses including the DON could give me no answers to any questions asked about this incident. All this happened within a 3 day period. He had a bracelet on him indicating that he was a fall risk yet no one watched him. I got him out of there as quickly as I could. The food was terrible. I can't think of one good thing to say.

I visited this facility

Charlton Place was poor. We moved my mother-in-law to another place. I need to write a letter to their corporate because my parents-in-law did not get good treatment. It was a mess. The nurses were fine, but the aides did not take care of my in-laws, take them to the bathroom, or do the other things they were supposed to do. I wouldn’t recommend this facility to anybody. I was not happy with the treatment. The rooms were average and had hospital beds in them. They’re large, though. The problem was the care level. Numerous times we met with them, and things were supposed to change, but they didn’t. I was not happy with Charlton Place. They need to improve on everything.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

This is a very nice nursing home/rehab facility, located about 10 miles out of Montgomery, Alabama. It is very clean, lobby decorated very nicely. Staff is wonderful, most of the CNA's are very good and friendly with the patients. Food is good. My mom was in this facility for about two years and with Rehab she has not been able to be moved to an Assisted Living Facility, called the Gables, also in Deatsville, AL. I would highly recommend it to a family looking for a place to put their loved one.
