I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother in law went into Mercy Medical for rehabilitation following surgery in October 2010. Things seemed to be Okay there The nursing staff friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed her time upstairs in the rehab department. In December of 2010 we were told my mother in law could not rehab any further and needed long term care. She was transferred downstairs to their long term care facility. That is when the problems arose. She was left unattended many times in the restroom for up to 45 minutes. She fell down and had bruises on her legs and arms for being unattended. She was left lying on her back with No oxygen which she needed to survive. She started to beg for us to get her out of there because she claimed they were going to kill her. A few days later on the night of December 29, 2010 my mother in law was left laying down on her back again with no elevation, and no oxygen. She went into respiratory failure and had to be rushed to the hospital. Where she did actually die and had to be revived. She was in a medically induced coma for about two weeks. They asked if we wanted to let her go, or let her fight to stay alive. She was able to make a full recovery. She now has a tracheotomy tube, but is at her own home and able to drive again. She never had to return back to Mercy Medical and we will never use them again. We were also never able to get her $400 digital camera, brand new $300 glasses, and other miscellaneous items returned to us.

    I visited this facility

It was a pleasant place with a warm and bright feel to it. The staff seemed very friendly and caring toward their patients and the patients were noticably appreciative of it. The food seemed good, not too bland but easy to handle for the patients so there was little problem. The rooms were inviting and everyone there liked to have company and be entertained which they often were. I was thankful to know that not all retirement facilities were as bad as they were made out to be and there are great ones out there just like Mercy Medical.
