We employed Bon Secours for my Father's end of life care. The intake nurse was very caring and helpful. Once we hired them we had nurses that did little more than show up once a week with a nurse’s assistant coming once a week. The assistant was to help with bathing, nails, etc. She came and did a sponge bath and nothing else. The nurse that showed up took vitals and nothing else. Once my Father took a turn for the worse, we called and were told medications to give him. After 3 calls and changes in medications they sent out a nurse on a Sunday to evaluate him. She ended up giving him a suppository, which he didn't need, and left. What a mess and terrible time for my poor Father. We had asked that the nurses increase the visits to twice a week. When we spoke to his regular nurse on Monday she said that the visit on Sunday counted as one of the 2 visits. He was having terrible reactions to the medications and the suppository. Finally they sent out a nurse that identified a terrible reaction to morphine so she started him on high dose of 2 medications that effectively put him in a coma. Within 24 hours of that coma his respiratory system was so compromised nothing could be done and he passed away 3 days later. They took his consciousness from him and they never should have done that. If they had provided the care that they told us they would my Father would have had a peaceful passing. They were neglectful and didn't respond as they say they will when you interview them. Thanks to Bon Secours my Father died a slow, painful death gasping for breath. We were basically on our own. The only nice thing that I can say about them is that the nurse that came after he passed was thoughtful and caring. I would never use Bon Secours again and will share this experience with everyone that I know to hopefully spare them the pain and heart ache that my Father and his family had to endure.

I feel as though these nurses are very judgemental and overstep their boundries on a regular basis . They would show up without calling beforehand to make sure my grandmother was awake and ready to start her day. They were more worried about what my husband and I were doing on a daily basis than how grandma was. In the end the bath nurse called in a complaint for no reason , we have many witnesses on this , after she showed up unannounced and got angry when grandma was asleep said she wasn't dealing with this. Called in a complaint and once my husband called to make a complaint on her behavior was told that his side of the story didn't matter and that we would be recieving a certified letter stating Grandma had been dropped from the program. This shows me they are not concerned with the patients they see at all.

The nurses were helpful, but I felt that they overstepped their bounds. The hospice nurse taking care of my mom hid one of her medications from her because she (the nurse) felt that my mom shouldn't be taking it anymore. In the end it had been a misunderstanding, but it sure left a sour taste in my mouth :(
