In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, I want to reflect on the care that Home Instead has provided for my father. At the age of 98, care for my dad needs to be consistent, safe, and--most of all--dependable. Unfortunately, I cannot be with my dad at all times, but I am confident that his caregive, Darlene L., will always be with him. Darlene consistantly goes the extra mile with Dad's care. She is very knowledgeable about the needs of the elderly; She is serious and dedicated to his care. It is very hard to watch your parent age. It takes a special person who can join a family and commit themselves to the challenges of caring for a loved one. Home Instead opened a door for our family and introduced Darlene to our lives. We are forever grateful for her selfless, dedicated, and above all compassionate care for my dad. We are thankful for Darlene.

We absolutely love Chelsea and she is such an invaluable part of my Mom’s care. She always has her best interests in mind and we think of her as part of our family. I don’t know what we would do without her! The staff is also great - friendly and always very responsive.

We are delighted to have Darell as the Caregiver for Walt, my husband who has dementia. Besides assisting him with showers and dressing, she provides conversation to keep him alert and joking. as time allows, she also does laundry. changes bed linens and other household tassks. Her personality is perfectly suited for caregiving.

I cannot express enough gratitude to Home Instead for the exceptional care they provided for my father. From the very beginning, the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely caring. They took the time to understand my father's needs and tailored their services accordingly. I want to give special recognition to Gloria, our primary caregiver. She went above and beyond in every aspect of my father's care. Gloria's compassion, patience, and dedication made a world of difference. She treated my father with the utmost respect and kindness, ensuring he was always comfortable and well cared for. Her positive attitude and warm presence were truly a blessing during a challenging time. Thank you, Home Instead, for the outstanding service, and a heartfelt thank you to Gloria for the exceptional care she provided. I highly recommend Home Instead to anyone seeking quality care for their loved ones.

We began using Home Instead last summer when my mother, who suffered from dementia, had a fall and needed 24 hour care. It didn't take too long before a regular schedule was established with caregivers who were very attentive to my mother's needs. The rapport they had with her was excellent! In particular, we loved Carol, Anita, and Isabel. We only had two issues throughout the whole year long experience and they were handled by the administrative staff very quickly. I would definitely recommend Home Instead to others.

Home Linsteads' Viola D. has cared for my husband for almost a year. She made increased improvement in his life by first, assisting him with his care as she taught him tasks and encouraged his independence in doing tasks. Secondly, she actively encouraged his successful progress as she provided safety, comfort and support. She has acted as a friend as well as a caregiver by being dependable, innovative, and helping him to transition from bed, to wheelchair, to a walker and then to cane activities. She drove him to PT, doctor appointments and shopping. Viola has been a great caregiver who obviously loves her job, and she infuses that love into her care. She has been competent and instills confidence. The HI staff on other days and weekends and evening shifts like Andrea H., were also outstanding and open to different OT options for my husband. The office staff (Mary and Janice) have courteously helped us to work out scheduling changes to meet our needs. Thank you to all of you.

Home Instead is caring for my aunt, and doing so very well. I'm confident in their services. Perhaps equally important, my aunt is delighted with their care and it has made a very positive improvement in her life - she looks forward to Shaneka visiting every day. It's comforting to know that my aunt is in good hands. Thank you!

My grandmother has companionship and home helper services through Home Instead Senior Care in Richmond. Pat has truly become her best friend. She's dependable and punctual. The caregiver goes above and beyond to meet her safety, transportation, house cleaning and emotional needs. They color, talk, go to exercise classes and doctor's appointments. Pat even went with her to a surgical procedure, ensuring that she felt comfortable and safe throughout the entire process. We were a bit apprehensive before hiring an agency, but have had our expectations exceeded. Pat's built a great rapport with my grandmother. We're very lucky to have her.

Finding someone to help care for your mother as well as you try to do can be a really scary challenge. I’ve been so relieved and supported by Home Instead’s caregivers. After a nice phone discussion about mom, a perfect caregiver was matched to her and honestly its like the 2 are old church buddies. Mom would have been friends her! I think thats what Home Instead does best-they try to make matches best suited to the clients needs but also their personality which has helped mom stay engaged and happy. Its like an old friend has stopped by to visit. Sometimes weekend help differs from our constant weekday help but we’ve also been pleased with those matches, too. Stop by to see your loved one while the Home Instead caregiver is there. You’ll be so relieved-and if you have a question or suggestion, call HI office and the help is immediate! Being a caregiver takes alot of love, time and patience. I’m so happy I’ve found that extra set of hands with Home Instead. I hope you find comfort with them, too :)

Our 80s-90s mom and dad live in a rural area and we all work full-time. Dad entered hospice care after a brief hospital stay and Mom has dementia. Our daytime caregivers did not have the staffing or experience to handle our new overnight needs. We called Home Instead and talked to Ruth. Our worries were soon over. That was 2 months ago and we are still loving their wonderful, professional staff. The staff is always on time, respectful, helpful and are amazing at keeping us informed of any situations that may need our attention. The office staff is quick to answer any questions we have and return our calls. We highly recommend Home Instead!

A senior family member of ours needed to be at VCU every week day for 30 days and all our local family members have full time employment and it was going to be impossible for us to make this journey alone. Home Instead helped us achieve those appointments. We could tell from the first consultation that we had the right company. The Home Instead employee came to our house and talked us through the services and we were so pleased with her professionalism and kindness; even acknowledged our puppy dog. We immediately signed a contract. We contracted with Home Instead to provide a driver to and from VCU. The driver was professional and caring and above all timely throughout the entire duration of our appointments. We could not have gotten through it without the help of Home Instead. Thank you for being a great resource for the Richmond region. We wouldn't hesitate to call you again if we ever needed your services in the future

The home office staff are great to work with - always very professional and helpful, and the aids sent to care for my mother when I have to go out for the day have all been very friendly, competent and compassionate women. I always feel confident leaving my mother in their hands.

We had Home Instead for my aunt. There was a list of things that we requested, e.g., a little bit of light cleaning and just taking care of my aunt, but they seemingly did not want to do anything. They would take care of my aunt, but the light cleaning and fixing her meals were not done. They just did not do the job. They were just there to make money.

Thank you for posting to Caring.com about your experience, albeit negative, with Home Instead Senior Care. I’m so sorry to hear that we were unable to meet your expectations, and would love to chat with you more about the specific situation so that we may improve upon our services. Without being able to reference this exact case or client, I can only assume that the CAREGiver we paired up with your aunt was simply not the right match based on the tasks assigned in the Plan of Care. We cannot always predict the outcome of a relationship between a client and a CAREGiver, though we do make the match based on skills and personality with the hope that the client and CAREGiver develop a solid rapport. We also always encourage our clients to let us know when that relationship is (and, especially when it is not) working; and, when it is not, we are happy to replace that CAREGiver with no questions asked. Similarly, we always encourage our clients to let us know if our CAREGivers are not completing the tasks assigned to them. In your case, I’m glad to hear that we took care of your aunt but it seems our responsibilities also included light housekeeping and meal preparation, which were not completed. Our Quality Assurance program aims to recognize and improve upon our care with each individual client, but we do rely on the clients and their families to keep us informed since our customer service team cannot be there for every shift with every client. As I said, I apologize that your expectations were not met with our services and I would encourage you to call me at your convenience to discuss this case in more detail. –Stephanie, Client Care Consultant

I am the daughter of a person who's curently using Home Instead. I need to let you know that we are just so pleased with our service at this time. Joyce is doing an excellent job and I would like to ask for this to be shared with others. She has found the key to our father's happiness which was his belly. She cooks amazing meals for him and keeps the house spotless. She also focuses on his PT exercises and makes sure that he doesn't suffer from atrophy and can get out when it gets warmer. We are very appreciative!
