My dad was in a nursing home and they recommended we contact Palliative care for him. Lisa from Hospice and Palliative care called me and they went to see dad. They were wonderful! Communication was great and they were keeping an eye on my dad at this time because he was doing well. They said they were checking the chart occasionally to follow his progress, but to call if he got worse. That worked out great for 3 months he really did not need anything that the nursing home could not provide at that time. Then about a month ago my dad took a turn for the worse. I called Lisa and she said she would get an order from the Nursing home for Hospice to come out. So the Hospice admission Nurse came out and I met him at my dads nursing home. I am sorry, I forgot his name and he was wonderful. He was able to get my dad signed up for hospice quickly and got it moving. I told him I wanted the Hospice Nurse working on my dads case to call me so I can meet her at the nursing home the next week as my dad was slightly confused. I never received that call. She came out on her own and not sure what she did but there was much confusion between them and the nursing home. Hospice said they were going to cancel his regular meds as he was non responsive and the weekend nurse wanted to know if I wanted to give him his Lantus. I told her that was supposed to be cancelled and she said "no meds were cancelled". Then my dad was anxious and they only ordered the Ativan PRN. Well how does that work when a person is not responding and you know in a nursing home they only come around every once in a while. Luckily, I did not leave my dads bedside once his condition changed. I requested it timed so I knew he would get it. Hospice in a nursing home is not what it seems. He did have a wonderful Chaplain, Pat who came twice to see dad and he was so comforting to dad and myself. In that aspect, I think we were blessed by his kindness and compassion. Also the CNA Cherish was amazing. She came and gave my dad a wonderful bed bath which he desperately needed. Her gentleness with my dad was truly remarkable. His nurse Maddie, only met her 1x and she did not even touch my dad to do any sort of assessment. I am a nurse and that is horrible in my opinion. She never even held his hand for a minute. I thought hospice nurses were supposed to be caring. In any event, dad passed, very anxious and I was at his bedside. I asked his nurse if he had anything for that and she said no, only timed Ativan. So what is the use of hospice if they are not providing comfort at end of life. My dad sadly passed August 12th and to this date not one person from Hospice even called, text, emailed or personally reached out to us to see if there was anything they could do for the family. Wow, this is truly heart wrenching, like my dad did NOT matter to them. No way can I ever recommend them.

My husband entered at-home hospice care. Prior to my decision to choose his care, hospital representatives met with me and explained the types of care available and satisfactorily answered my questions. Having family members who were experienced in nursing home care, I knew that I did not want my loved one's care transferred to such a place. I decided the best place for my husband was in our home under my care. The hospice nurses, social worker, and equipment delivery folks were professional, sympathetic, and patient in sharing their knowledge to help me and other family members provide proper care. I would highly recommend this provider to anyone seeking their services.

We're presently on hospice through Hospice and Palliative Care. We have come across it through a friend who has in-laws that were affected the same way my wife is. We have them come three times a week for showers and changes of clothes. They also volunteer to come two hours a week and let me go out to shop or whatever I need to do. We also have a lady come for about an hour and a half to two hours, and she helps clean the house and does whatever needs to be done.
