My parents hired Griswold services as my father has dementia. Brian was very friendly but not honest about how this program worked. We were under the impression that staff were hired by Brian as "his staff" and vetted by him, trained, insured...but that was not the case. As time went on we learned the staff found other staff on their own by word of mouth and had very little if any contact with Brian. He told us that staff were"his" and that is why he took $6/ hour of their hard earned wages. This money he explained went for company advirtisement and for recruitment. My mom questioned why she was paying Brian more than the staff and he was very offended by this. He told his staff in front of me that they had signed a contract with him to be his employees but this was not true at all. He lied, plain and simple. He talks a good game but in the end, the staff do the work and he takes his cut for his business. He chose to ignore our complaints about a staff who asked us to consider zooming with my parents instead of coming to visit. Clearly not what a boss should do when someone so clearly crossed the line from being a caretaker to telling the family to not visit. All of the women that came are independent contractors and not his staff. He should not be taking a cut since they recieve no benefits from him. I am disappointed that they were recommended to us by my fathers care team. Our fault for not doing our own research on this company.

Brian is very good. He has very good workers. He would team you up with people that he would use himself. I'm very pleased with him. I had other agencies before and I didn't care for them. Brian's price is very reasonable and he'll work with you. They're cheaper and they'll send you workers that care. I just started using their service. I just used them twice and it's excellent. The caregivers worked hard and they were here on time. They're very respectful people. They help me go shopping to the grocery store. Everything is good with the caregivers. I wouldn't have it any other way because when you don't like them you just tell them and you'll get rid of them. Then just move on with somebody else. I haven't had that problem with Griswold as I had with other agencies. You tell them a certain time and they're there.

Great caregivers...Dependable, Compassionate, well trained and AFFORDABLE! Caring for my 89 year old mother in her home now and she is extremely happy with the service. I wish I hadn't waited and called them sooner.
What you can do with Caring
About Griswold Home Care in Iowa City, Iowa
The world's oldest organization to provide non-medical home care services, Griswold Home Care has locations throughout the United States, helping over 80,000 clients since 1982. The Eastern Iowa office, owned by Brian Rummelhart, covers Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Johnson County, Linn County, and all of the numerous towns and rural areas among these regions. Individuals needing care for chronic conditions or anyone requiring help with daily tasks are possible beneficiaries of this outstanding service company.
The success and longevity of Griswold Home Care can be attributed to their meticulous efforts to retain the most highly-qualified team members through their CareAssure Screening System. Aside from rigorous background checks and skill set screenings, the organization surpasses other in-home care companies by screening for CHARACTER. Integrity, compassion, honesty, and reliability are all essential. The CarePairing System developed by Griswold Home Care uses information like personal preferences, social history, communication style, and humor to create ideal matches between caregivers and clients.
To that end, Brian Rummelhart personally interviews all clients and caregivers before sending an individual on a job. First, he spends 20-30 minutes on the phone to get an initial sense of the person. Then he conducts up to a two-hour, in-person interview. Finally, he administers a 50-item questionnaire. After all that, he asks himself the question "Do I want you taking care of MY parents in their home?" No one is engaged unless he can honestly answer "yes".
Mr. Rummelhart initially became interested in working with senior citizens and others needing help when he ran a medical supply warehouse. The operation was rather out of the way and was not open to the public, but seniors would somehow make their way to the building looking for canes or walkers. Observing their plight, Rummelhart started supplying items just for them, such as the walkers, and also shower chairs, commodes, and raised toilet seats. Through word-of-mouth, more and more seniors visited the warehouse. Rummelhart truly developed a heart for senior citizens and others with disabilities, and gradually the idea formed to start an in-home service in his area. Griswold Home Care was an attractive option: of the home care organizations available, their screening process was the most rigorous, increasing his odds of effectively referring high-quality caregivers.
"I like helping people. The elderly are very knowledgeable, caring, funny. I like being around them. Through our services, people get to sleep in their own bed, walk out their own front door, sit on their own porch."
